The last paragraph made me catch my breath. What a great ending.
| random rohan soldieer chapter 1 . 2/15/2011
I feel sorry for the older boys having to fight, but I'm glad the younger ones didn't have too. Theoden would have gone to extremes if he thought a 20 year old woman needs more protection then a 6 year old little boy.

I'm glad that the younger lads were sent back to the caves. Good story.

I wonder how old the boy was who was the narrator of the story. I'm glad Theoden had enough sense not to make small children fight. They would have been too frightened and they wouldn't stand a chance against the large urakhi.
| Sorrow Reminisce chapter 1 . 9/16/2003
This story really sent shivers down my spine. I'm really happy to see stories that dig into the nooks and crannies of LotR, rather than writing of the same old same old. It's interesting to read of what battle would be like through the eyes of those who waiting in the depths of Helms Deep for it to be over, and this is beautifully done.
I love the also the ending:
My son told me yesterday that he wants to make saddles when he grows up, like me. And I was more glad than I could say.
I could feel his relief as well. :)
