Where your worries regards Squall's OOCness is concerned, it's context dependant. Granted, such a violent outburst towards one of his friends seems unlike Squall, however you haven't given many details yet on what caused or constituted the break up of his relationship with Rinoa. If their parting was on particularly bad terms, or involved something greatly unpleasant - such as infidelity - then he would have good reason to become so upset at just the mention of her name. So whether or not he is OOC relies alot on how you want to portray what happened.

I do like how this is developing so far; Irvine, Quistis, Selphie and Zell are all nicely in character, and it's easy to decipher who is speaking at any one time without you needing to employ obvious overusage of 'he said' 'she said'. Which makes a truly pleasant read.

The only downside, as I see it, is that the 'Rinoa splits up with Squall. Squall is upset. His friends attempt to cheer him up. Seifer returns and restores Squall's happiness' scenario has, unfortunately been done many times before. However, the pairings you've chosen to write about, the interesting - and as yet undone - concept of sending Squall on a mission in order to lift his spirits, and your characterisation, should safely set this fiction apart from the formula. Just don't be disheartened if you find a few other stories, all with a similar plot to yours.

I'm interested to know how you'll choose to portray Seifer when he appears, which, in conjunction with the teaser concerning 'things not going to plan', makes me very eager to read the next chapter, which, hopefully shouldn't be too long in coming. _~

A mission is a better way to draw Squall out instead of taking him to some place like they tried doing.

I think Squall is definitely IC. Even he blows up once and awhile.

I love how he slams Zell into the wall Just proves how strong he really is if he can do that to a martial artist.

And the only one who can really stop him, of course, is Seifer

*shakes head* You'd think they'd know by now, that what they just did, was basically cornering Squall. And he's never liked to be cornered. It's a little different if it's only one person doing it, and if there patient enough to wait out the answers. But all of them? *shakes head again* That's a no, no.

Very nice. Squall's always been known to run away from his problems instead of facing them. So it's good to see that you put that in here.

This story seems to be lacking something though. I think it needs a little more feeling. You description is wonderful, very well done. But I don't see a lot of emotions.

Yes, it concerned me too that this story set-up has been used so much already... I am planning on some twists though, hopefully it'll work ;)

For a first fanfic it's well done, sets up the situation nicely and the written style is good - understable with few mistakes. The interaction between the pair was in character so well done, and the idea about Squall retreating into his shell after Rinoa leaves, though widely used, works well and sets up for some interesting chapters ahead. Overall good first fic, the only thing lacking is an ease of style that you'll gain if you keep at the writing, so do keep at it.

Short, though indeed a very promising start.

Quistis and Zell are both very much in-character, and the playful, well-written repartee between them speaks a great deal on the nature of their relationship, without you having to go into deep emotional assessments of the characters this early on in the piece.

I do admire also, the way in which you clearly conveyed most of Squall's current situation, and his two friend's concern for him, through conversation instead of monologue, which can sometimes be tiring to wade through.

Hopefully, you'll choose to continue this, as I'm greatly interested to know how you'd portray the other characters and what turns the plot will take.
