How are comments about Hermione's weight in any way necessary to the story?

Well, book-Hermione was born in September 1979, nearly a year before Harry, and turned 18 about three weeks into 7th year. The age of consent in the UK is 16 (except Northern Ireland where it's 17), but it is illegal for a person in authority, such as a teacher, to have sex with a person of 16 or 17 who is under their authority, however consensual, unless they marry them first. However, this latter legislation was only passed around the time of Hermione's 18th birthday, so once she turned 16, ie autumn 1977, there was no point at which it would have been illegal for her to have sex with Snape, except possibly for a few weeks prior to her 18th birthday. So yes, it would be up to the school to decide, and if the school has no problem with it they're fine.

Amazing work, so very deep. I liked how you portrayed Snape and Hermione's interaction, and how they slowly came together. The bit with the movies and the song was very moving and deep, showing how the war affected Snape. And I was a mix between crying and laughing at Snape's mom portrait.
