I came upon this story searching for Caranthir, since he's my favourite Elf ever. Reading Caranthir stories make me forget all my critical, intelligence reviewing tendencies and just squeal how cute he is. So here it goes: aw! He's so cute! I want to cuddle him!
Feel like a girl of 14 now. Anyway. I'm glad I made your day by reviewing a story you posted 3 years ago ;)

The utter geek in me is protesting the Sindarin names/nicknames, but I can get over it. About Maedhros' letter . . . well, the Silm says the Feanorians lived apart from the other Noldor, so Maedhros and Fingon might write back and forth if they didn't get to see each other much. It makes sense. But now you've got me thinking, did they have messengers in Valinor? Most of the Noldor lived in Tirion, but surely the Feanorians weren't the only exception. There's no reason you need to include that here; I'm just going off on a tangent. Sorry. Back on topic, I don't think Caranthir sulks quietly when he gets ignored. He should probably at least slam a door or two. That said, this was very cute, and an interesting look at the family dynamics. I love childhood fics about the three Cs; maybe I just want to salvage their innocence or something.

aw, cute ending.
| Miss Aranel chapter 1 . 3/12/2004
Aww - such a cute story, D. Is this it, or are you planning to write more for it?
Big families can be difficult sometimes...always having to compete with siblings for attention. Poor little Caranthir...I just knew he was setting himself up for some kind of disappointment. : ( It's good that Maedhros realizes something's up and takes a little time to entertain his brother.
And little Curufin was a hoot, whipping around that bracelet. I'm glad Feanor admired it. *g*
*g* And Celegorm and his (very big) puppy, Huan. I much enjoyed the little story of how he got the dog, and Caranthir's observation that Huan is ALWAYS hungry. And Maedhros comment that he wouldn't have kept the dog if it was his choice, and if he knew it was going to get so big - reminded me of some sort of nasty "oldest" thing I'd say. I wonder how he responded when his parents sat him and his brothers down for the old "We Have A Wonderful Surprise For You" talk...
Again, I liked the story a lot!
Oh - and poor Amme and the yarn - she never did get a girl...my dad is actually very content will all daughters though, so maybe she ended up being glad she had all boys...?

it is so nice! poor Caranthir...:( i really liked it!
| Violet Dawson chapter 1 . 1/6/2004
Aw... so cute Dragon! ::huggles you:: You always manage to write just exactly what I need to read, thanks so much for another wonderful story! _
| Inaniyor chapter 1 . 1/3/2004
Aww... It's interesting to see such a large family of elves and how they interact. Caranthir's so cute!
I can sympathize with Caranthir. A lot of families in the area I live in have a ton of kids (a classmate of mine is eleventh of fifteen...) and a lot of the younger ones have problems because no one pays attention to them. As for myself, I'm the second youngest of four, and sometimes *I* have problems with people listening to me. Also, a lot of the older siblings end up taking care of the younger ones.
| Blume chapter 1 . 1/3/2004
that was sad. I've always had the idea Caranthir was the least understood of all brothers, since I bet Curufin was always at the forge with his Ada and Celegorm had Huan toplay with and the Twins had each other and Maedhors had Maglor. yeap. No wodner they called him the dark. poor boy.
...this will have a second chapter?
| Sphinx chapter 1 . 1/3/2004
Happy!Feanor always makes me all warm inside. :)
Are you planning to continue this? Looks like the beginning of another elfling-filled story...
All the better for me. ;)
| jilian baade chapter 1 . 12/31/2003
That would be a mistake, teaching Caranthir to screech like an owl! it would be all he ever did for days...
I can see why he developed a bad temper: it would be the only way to get attention.

This is so sweet. It's hard for me to remember that these Elves who did such terrible things were small children who needed love as all children do. And being one of so many sons would indeed be hard.
