Reviews for Hope Springs Eternal: A Subterranean Romance |

![]() ![]() Came back to a favorite story for a reread, and was deeply impressed when I found this comment. You are an awesome person, and I love your work, and you give me hope for the world and future. |
![]() ![]() Hey. I just want you to know that I come back every couple of years or so to read this story. It is a delight every time. I originally found it in highschool many years ago, and to date it is one of my favorite stories. James wood is a tool but this story is a jewel. Thanks for writing it. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I have read this story before and just came back to it because I like the symbolism of Hades and Persephone in the winter months. As far as your update I really appreciate the disclaimer and detachment from Woods. Also I still love this story because he does not have to embody the character because so many people worked on Hercules and worked on breathing life into the project that it seems like, especially in written forms without a voice actor, the character can exist without the shadow of Woods’ allegations. But that said I really truly do appreciate the disclaimer. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I think you did a good job with the thing of age and consent in your story, treating this in an acceptable and ethical manner, in no way comparable to the atrocious acts you mention in your last disclaimer publication. I know that the recent news could disturbing your work, like a reader and writer, but like a feminist reader, I want tell you that you did the things correctly, and the last warming demonstrates maturity and interest for you part for make things correctly. Dont see Wood in your work, he is not there, your Hades is, definitely, a decent man in that way. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This is the first ever Hades centric story I've ever found, and IT IS PERFECTION, thank you for writing this wonderful story I enjoyed every bit of it. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Read your original one on dream width; The illustration and storyline is perfection itself. Enjoyed reading it, now it my new favorite story. |
![]() ![]() The best fanfic I've ever read! Should make into a movie, of course with limited provocative parts (Disney u know). Songs and everything! I'm impressed! |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was a story I never knew I was looking for, and it's been more than I could have ever hoped! I am in love with this story and paints a picture of a relationship we don't often see. It was beautifully written and I loved how you wrote your own songs like there would have been if this were its own movie, and honestly, this should have it's own movie! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Epic. Just epic. Amuses me that Cupid is the son of Ares and Aphrodite, though. All is fair in love and war, right? |
![]() ![]() Just to tell you I'm the author of the last review ;) |
![]() ![]() I read this chapter again, and it's as amazing as it was the first time. I really like Leuke and making her come back was genius. Their complicity is so endearing! I cried a little when Hades told her he never forgave himself for letting her die alone. The PAIN! The FEELS! Then again, everytime you mention Hades' deep suffering, I have tears in my eyes. My poor darling! I'm so glad he has Persephone! "And when it finally settled, neither was sure where the one's soul ended and the other's began." This sentence says it all. The feels and the love between the characters is just so strong it makes my heart melt. You are an amazing writer and you deserve a two-hour tribute for this fic. |
![]() ![]() ![]() WHY why why isn't this story getting more attention? "Only" a little over 300 comments? I think it deserves as much as "Picture this" by Trudi Rose! I guess the one and only reason is that Disney's Hercules is by far not as popular as Disney's Beauty & Beast. (But then, I am one to talk, I've known of this story for years, but only a recent re-watching of the movie made me fiiiinally read HSE from beginning to end) But can I add anythiny substantial in my praise that wasn't already said before? Probably not. Well, still: From the very beginning you can read that is a fan labour of love and not just yet another "Mary Sue hooks up with favourite character" fantasy. I salute you for balancing out typical Disney elements with Greek mythology and with something that is just your own. I salute you for even including original songs that appear plausible within the story. I have yet to encounter another story that manages this ...! Extra points for the very well-drawn illustrations. (During school we learned quite a few stories about Roman and Greek gods thanks to the Latin lessons, but I still learned a lot of new things in this story and through your notes...) While reading I got sometimes the impression you wanted to get as close to a "Hercules part two" than you could get, a story that could really work as second movie; and then other parts seems to say "Nah, forget that second part concept, this story stands entirely on two own fanfiction feet." (and not just because of sex and swearing). Where you really trying for a part two feeling for a while, or am I overanalyzing? But any "real" criticism, at least from my side, would only be nitpicking. - P.e. while reading I also sometimes though I could have done with a little less mythology background trivia - like all those explanations about the new godly residents in the epilogue - and instead more scenes for Hecate to make her seem like a bigger threat, but then, the story flows well they way it is, and maybe my ideas for improvements wouldn't really work out in the long end. Oh, but one thing: When Persephone secretly takes some Kokytos water with her, you write that something dark within the cave smiles upon the sight. I was quite puzzled about this part, wondered if Hecate had installed yet another "cam" and I somehow missed that line in the fic (or if the cave has a demonic life of its own) - until I read in your notes that the smile is most likely connected to ... the nymph Mintha? But within the story that smiling mysterious thing is never mentioned again, so this feels like an unresolved riddle. But that is really my only true complaint. Thank you for the very enjoyable read, I wish all fanfictions (not just for Hercules) would be so well-crafted! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I really enjoyed reading your story :-) You have great writing style and ideas :-) |
![]() ![]() Hi, here I am with the cliche review, but since I don't have a account, I have to leave a review anonymously. I absolutely love this fic, it's obvious you put a lot of thought and research in it. It might just be one of the best fanfictions I've ever read, and definitely the most original one in the Greek Mythology department :))) i think, even if it wasn't in character with the Hades Disney presented us with, you developed his character enough for it to not look unnatural or sudden at all. The plot was gripping and had a lot of twists I actually didn't expect. I liked Hades' backstory very much, especially the parts about his childhood, or rather lack-of, since he was swallowed by Kronos and all. The other characters were nicely portrayed as well, but Hades was by far my favorite. Even though I think you are very talented at writing, you're right: this fic doesn't really need a sequel, it's perfect this way and very much complete. Also, often sequels don't live up to expectations, mainly because, well, everybody has different twists they would like to see, different paths they imagined for the characters etcetc. Anyway, this was a huge review, heh, sorry about that. I really hope you don't give up on writing, maybe you can even come up with other mythology-inspired stories. Or not. Whichever is fine. Love this gem of a fic! Great job! kisses, a greek mythology lover |
