does not have as you continue this fanfic?
it is very interesting and i wanted to know what will happen next
| DELETEDrandom chapter 1 . 1/13/2015
I once wondered how ostracized-boy Cloud summoned the courage to ask Tifa out to the well...and you nailed it. I actually think that not being a Cloud fan helped you write the story in a realistic and concise way. It's obvious when writers adore Cloud because they will romantize the childhood friendship between the two and make Cloud out to be an angel child who was bullied. The truth is he sought after fights with others and had a rep for being dangerous.

Although I'm a few years late I thought it was about time I showed my appreciation for this fic.
Every few years I always come back and re-read a bunch of your stuff. For someone who doesn't like Cloud that much you handle his character very well.
This is one of the most realistic portrayals of Cloud and Tifa as children. Whenever I think about their childhood relationship I tend to think of this story. It's part of my head canon now haha.
Definitely one of my favourite one-shots on here.
| Syzeria chapter 1 . 9/13/2009
Oh, you should continue with this! It's really really good! Add another chapter, please?
It's adorable (though the fight scared the heck out of me. What were they fighting for?) and interesting and well-written and sweet!
It really goes with the whys some have about Cloud leaving to join SOLDIER.
Amazing job, I'm in love with this!
| Mr. Ite chapter 1 . 8/30/2006
This is a wonderful story. You write children beautifully. Undoubtebly one of the best fics I've ever read, here or otherwise. For someone who's not too fond of Cloud, you really know him to a T. Fabulous work.
| Ashrial chapter 1 . 6/19/2006
great story. you can see how cloud would grow up just from this story.
| HawkofLight chapter 1 . 9/23/2005
Wow... I thought this was such a beautiful little one-shot, a little angsty and dramatic which I like. I thought you had young Cloud as very in character and I really felt for him and could imagine what he was going through. Great job with this. I have added this to my favorites too.
| Izzia chapter 1 . 8/13/2005
Wow! This was so good! Cloud is so well characterised, the best I've seen him i think. I was smiling throughout this fic, it was so sweet and just so perfectly written, i really had a sense of being a child myself when reading, all the little child like details like sephiroth probably had lots of freinds, something only a child would think. His simple yet complex view on the wolrd was wonderfully childlike too. It flowed so well, described perfectly. Brilliant.
| suriru chapter 1 . 6/30/2005
Their childhood relationship always killed me. if only...
great job with the fic.
| Phantasmal Abduction chapter 1 . 3/30/2005

| Thyme In Her Eyes chapter 1 . 11/3/2004
I love how you portray characters as children... Anyway, lovely work. There was something really visual about this; I had this a very clear picture in my head of how this whole thing played out. Really lovely stuff. Your use of imagery in this is wonderful. I loved the weather-imagery, of Cloud as a storm and Tifa as the rain...it worked beautifully and added to this image of them as children that you created. The depth you gave Cloud was amazing. He's EXACTLY as I imagined him to be as a child, I love how you've reversed his character-development and the insight into the way his mind works and his feelings is superb. And of course the element of violence to him as a child isn't blotted out or compromised here either. He's so raw in this; it's fantastic. You really made me feel his every emotion in this; his longing to just be someone else, someone amazing, someone who'd get praise and attention and affection. And the way you describe his feelings of emptiness without these things really is painful; I really felt for the poor guy. Your Tifa is lovely too - I love how you emphasise how deeply she's hurting but it's locked away behind normal girlish behaviour...and it's Cloud that sees it. I love how you portray them; the way they have this quiet understanding and sympathy for one another but at the same time don't really know each other at all. Lovely foundation for their relationship and feelings in the game itself. But they're both so human too, and you portray that fully here. There's something really chilling to this piece, I think. The sense of foreboding is overwhelming. Lovely writing! :)
PS: But you're not a Cloud fan? Why oh why? :(
| Jess Angel chapter 1 . 8/28/2004
An excellent Cloud piece, The Jack of Spades. Impressive, especially since you're not a fan. You portrayed both young Tifa and Cloud very well. Their relationship - not close but having the potential of being close.
This made me realize even more just how sad both characters are/were. Each in their own way. Having more in common than meets the eye. Your use of weather really evoked a working melancholy tone throughout the fic too.
I also liked those lines about Cloud being the storm and Tifa the rain. "Sad weather because Tifa was a sad girl." Just beautiful.
Another thing that I liked was how you mentioned Tifa thought Sephiroth was handsome. That's something I had never thought about before. Hm.
Keep up the quality writing!
| Ann2 chapter 1 . 8/28/2004
I agree with Tifa. Sephiroth is very handsome. _
Ah.. Before I'm going too far. This is a well-writen Cloud'story. He stay in his character despite you say that you are not his fan, which make me amaze how good you could write about the character that you don't like. I really like how you describe thing's in Cloud's POV.
BTW. thanks you so much for something good to read and free from Yuffentine stories that seem to spread around this FF7 section like a disease. Your stories make this site more visitable. _
PS. When will you update your another story, Miracle Woman. I still wait for your update. I swear.
| Ardwynna Morrigu chapter 1 . 8/26/2004
That was beautifully done! The prose at the beginning especially left an impression and the emotion was conveyed wonderfully.
