|Reviews for The Day After|
| Terapsina chapter 1 . 1/2
Wow, that's painful but beautiful and I can definitely see how being friends with mortals would slowly bend and then if nothing changes break an immortal elves mind. I liked how you described time here, Gimli's perception of it and his thoughts on how it works for his friend.
I do love this.
| Petrichora chapter 1 . 7/13/2013
If I've got to be laid up in bed all day, I can think of no better way to spend them than reading your stories and working out a rough chronological order for them (that would be my selective OCD flaring). Seriously, I love how "everything is connected", or at least seems to be, within your stories: I saw that they were on the steppes of Rhûn, and my first thought, having read Of Rowan and Ruin only yesterday, that perhaps I would hear the story of Legolas saving Gimli's axe at the expense of his quiver. I might also add that I am still waiting very patiently to hear about what Aragorn convinced Legolas' sisters that one time in Mirkwood, as hinted at in While the Ring Went South. ;)
I usually shy away from fics written in first person, but this one worked, and it definitely sounded like Gimli. The extent to which you have captured his character and further developed it is nothing short of remarkable: next to Tolkien, you are my main source for Gimli-ness, and if the way I write him in the story I'm currently working on is anything close to being respectable, it will be because I have read so many of your stories that feature him heavily.
On to The Day Before!
| Khelc-sul Renai chapter 1 . 9/24/2012
...I have never read a story from Gimil's perspective that made me want to cry so much. This is a heartbreaking truth-and I'd never before thought about how much it would break immortals to understand time as mortals do.
Well written. Great read.
| Frodo's sister chapter 1 . 4/18/2012
This is really good.
| Enna Namo chapter 1 . 5/24/2011
This is another wonderful example of your understanding the friendship between Gimli and Legolas. This bittersweet realisation that they both influence each other in their views and their changing perecption of time. It makes me want to cry and hug them both and tell them that everything will turn out good. That there is a happy end for them and that their friendship will never die.
| kspadawan chapter 1 . 4/4/2011
Aww. Beautifully written.
| Shipwright's Trick chapter 1 . 3/27/2010
All right, that's it. I can't read ANY MORE...of this depressing stuff. "The Day Before" was bad enough, but this...!
Thundera, you're brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. But I'm warning you now,the rest of this review is going to be raving...
If I condoned cursing, I would be doing it right now. I AM doing it right now, in my head.
Eternal madness... *shudders* Is the price higher for Legolas or for Gimli?
No, not going to think about that...
| Maedhros chapter 1 . 1/4/2010
That's a very interesting take on an immortal's perspective. This phrase summarized it best for me, "The moment in which change is noticed but never truly felt." It made me feel better about being a mortal, where life is short but truly lived.
| Em chapter 1 . 4/26/2009
Wow... well written! I like Gimli's concern for Legolas and how Legolas seems to have taken on mortal time. That part at the end was so sad! From hundreds of years to a year to minutes.
But I loved it! Thank you for sharing!
| yamina-chan chapter 1 . 4/14/2009
Just like "The Day Before" this makes me sad.
I knew, that bouth, Legolas and Gimli, would have to pay this price because of their friendship, but to read it in a story asgood as yours, feels diffrent.
I do understand their traars so well.
| aniuwolfe chapter 1 . 6/22/2007
Once again, loved The Day Before, and I love this one too.
Not much else to say. :)
| rika195 chapter 1 . 2/28/2007
wow, that was beautiful and amazing...and...sad.
But beautiful. Good work! I was breathless.
| Aimme chapter 1 . 2/25/2007
Hm. Interesting look into Gimli thoughts. I LOVE how you described a battle and it all seeming to be one long endless moment! Great job!
| Jessi Tsuki chapter 1 . 1/31/2007
How sad. ( I feel bad for them a bit now.
| ziggy chapter 1 . 8/10/2006
Having just read these two stories as they are intended, I am moved by the sentiments and deoth of thinknig in this. It reflects so perceptively the 'price' of their friendship. And as always, so beautifully written. Gimli is all passion and fire- feeling rage st his impotence to stop Legolas' pain- and Legolas' is all sadness and grief - the contrasts and similatrities you portray take the characters further than the original, and I love the way you make me think about things outside the world of the novel.I found myself musing in a quite elvish way on time on the way to work today! Quite interesting results!
