Like I said on AIM: This is damned good. One of the few stories Ive ever read that brought a tear to me eye.

Ah, the not-often-touched subject of Niccolo. Poor kid deserves more stuff to be written about him, I think ... hardly anything on him (or Ryss's origins-as-such) at all. I like this! It's concise, written in a very report-like fashion ... just as you'd expect any military man to write it out. (especially the random observations like Niccolo would've made a good soldier, and stuff.) Enough details to get the point across but nothing extraneous.

(I just watched this ep again recently so this ficlet scores heavy in the personal visuals, because of that.)

Overall, I like the account of what happened. 'Cause that's what it is.
