I really loved this story! The constant smut cut ellipses were slightly disruptive, but that's honestly the only 'bad' thing I can think of. The lens I always read through (totally subjective matter of personal preference) is 'does this seem realistic given the premise/world the author has set up' and 'is there the right balance of angst and resolution' and I'd say absolutely yes on both fronts! The internal morality battles Naruto has seem totally believable, as well as Sasuke's tendency to go all-in on whatever he's doing (in this case, loving Naruto). I liked that we got to see the interpersonal growth. Thanks for writing this great fic and sharing it with us!

I admit you were scaring me for a while there emphasizing how you never got to finish rewrting this story but even after I reached chapter 17 I was happy to continue reading without sensing any inappropriate or uncomfortable shift in the story or writing. I've been dying to read a fic with some actual plot and development and this is perfect with the underlying mystery antagonist. I do wonder if it's someone we know though.

I wanted to mention that there was a while where I was really confused about the timeline you set largely due to the flashback. It may have only been me but I wasn't sure whether for a second there Naruto and Sasuke's firs fight in chapter 1 happened in the present or past. I concluded with common sense that it happened in the present since Naruto's dehumanizing habit of shutting off his feelings was a theme in the present not past.

Naruto's characterization is another huge element in this fic I wanted to bring up. I found Naruto to be kind of weird put simply. The whole situation where he loves Sasuke but dates Hinata then oggles Neji put me off just a little. Of course you use Naruto however you must to develop him and his relationship as well as the story however you please but I tend to stay away from fics where cheating is involved for one because I never picture Naruto in that light. He has his reasons in this case but whenever he accepted Sasuke's advances I didn't find it right. And then when Neji found out of Naruto and Sasuke's relationship and didn't even confront him about whether he cheated while with Hinata I was again a little put off.

The heavy reliance on smut for the development of Naruto and Sasuke (which you mentioned) is something I also didn't like but it wasn't a huge problem that it didn't make sense for them to get back together, especially after chapter 20 where Naruto's internal struggle finally ends and he opens himself up to being with Sasuke as he so desired since the beginning. I think Gaara's chat with Naruto had a lot to do with his decision and that's just one of the reasons I think their friendship is so great. But again when it came to smut I felt a lot was unnecessary especially since you skipped through a lot of it anyway.

The best part of this story for me atleast was the chunnin exams and the whole climax where the fight is involved and we don't really know what is bound to happen. Your writting in general is excellent and keeps the audience intrigued whether it be smut or a fight or an interaction.

That said you mentioned not being able to have completed some plot holes due to the fact you never finished rewriting and that became pretty appearant the last 4 or so chapters. The whole ending after the hospital chapter seemed extremely rushed and there was a lot that lacked and was left unanswered such as why the Akatsuki wanted the jinjurikis, why Itachi helped Sasuke and what became of him, and even whether Naruto ever became Hokage. I don't regret reading but I feel the ended left a lot to be desired.

I hope you are still writing look forward to perhaps reading more of your work.

Man, I really wish Id found this fic sooner! So sad the re write couldn't be finished, but I completely understand why. I wouldn't have been able to re write even 2 chapters of a story I made a millennia ago. heh. I was really looking forward to finishing, but I'm afraid I can't continue. At least, for now.
