Must say this in advance: I rarely read fan fiction, and when I do, I rarely like it. I usually dislike the writing, the tone, the style, new characters, original characters nearly unrecognisable,... you name it. But-but-but- I have been re-watching the Hornblower series recently, and it made me hungry for more Archie. I've been reading reviews and commentaries and one sentence said it all: thank you, world, for fan fiction, where Lt. Kennedy did not die, which made me searching, and brought me to your story.

All in all, this was a sweet little piece of writing and it's very close to a scenario which I also like to imagine, yet I would never dare to write it, because me writing fan fiction is probably never going to happen. So... big thank you from me for writing it. I loved the continuity (Horatio not getting jokes, references to their action together, Buckland, and so on). Larien's complaint about the inconsistency with Horatio's approach to alcohol probably concerns only Hornblower of the book because in "Mutiny", Archie and Horatio talk about celebrating heavily when they were transferred to Renown. I also like the touch of sensible admiralty who, for once, do not screw up.

I have to ask you: Will there be the Archie-centric sequel to this as your note in the description indicates? I couldn't find it among your writing. You may consider my review as a huge encouragement for continuing. I would love to read it.

A great story. Very good.

This was very well written, and I really enjoyed reading it.

The only thing I really have to complain about is that it is very inconsisten with Hornblower's character. He was known for never getting drunk, and never drinking more than a glass or two of wine.

But this was still a really great story, and I hope you write more!
