This was so sad. I'm actually not a fan of death stories, but this one was really good.
| zafaran chapter 1 . 10/16/2005
Mean, nasty supposed friends who meddle. Being with someone when they die is not the unforgettable horror that Lupin makes it out to be. Yes, it's sad and can be terribly upsetting if it's a sudden death like Sirius's was, but it's not, in general, horrifying. At the end of an illness, the death watch can be quite peaceful, and they just finally slip away. Harry had been with Severus as caregiver as the curse progressed, and it was robbing him of the choice to be with Severus, to say a last goodbye, and make the transition into the grieving process at his own pace. Of my grandparents's and parents's deaths, three were deaths where I was caregiver (my mother and her parents) and present at the death, and three weren't (my father and his parents). The grieving process was easier for the deaths I attended. I did not grieve any less, and with mother it took a bit over two full years to finish processing it since I'd been ill at the same time I was caregiver for her so I was having to heal at the same time (which I never fully have done-too many broken backs have left too much permanent damage), but there's a peace to the memory of those deaths that I've never really had for the others. I just wanted to say how much I really liked this story. I loved how Snape was true to character, and there was so much emotion from Harry. You've written a death fic which manages to still leave one with a warm feeling, with Harry not quite so alone with Severus' words there for him. If you are looking for a beta, I'd be happy to go over anything for spelling and content. You have a number of words which are spelled correctly, but the content is wrong (ie. conceded for conceited). Again, great story.

| BELOVEDbyWAR chapter 1 . 2/6/2005
This was so sad! Fabulous story and finally something a bit different from the old Sev saves Harry routine! Furthermore you did a very good job to keep the characters believable.
Thumbs up! Maybe next time you try a happyend... I'd like to read that! ;-)

this is fantastic - especially the rescue on the battlefield, it's exactly the sort of snape interaction that i love to read and attempt to write!
thankyou, well done!
