Great chapter! I really am so enjoying the supernatural twists and spins on all the characters and the whole Jineh incident is one of my favorites. You're dialog gets the tone and speech for each character just right, particularly Kenshin and Sano. I am glad that Sano is back on the scene.

If Sano has read the private files then does he have knowledge of Battousia's history in the Bakumatsu? Does he know about the family that Battousai is looking for? Also, with the violet eyes and everything, doesn't he suspect?

Just stumbled upon your story tonight (Ack, I have to stop reading way past my bedtime...) you do an excellent job of creating Battousai as a personality, a character even though he is physically a sword (at least for the first chapters). Kenshin, Kaoru, Yahiko, Sano... everyone is *different* and yet, at the same time so natural in their new roles that I'm left with both a sense of guilt that the sun will soon be rising outside and and feeling of regret that there isn't yet more to read.

Sano is a lucky, lucky rooster. Two marks cancelling each other out, making both Battousai and Jin-e believe him to be dead. Have a feeling that Sanosuke's long history with the Kin (and his enjoyment of a Kin's need to nibble) is really going to help Kenshin, Yahiko and Kaoru adjust.

The fight with Jin-e was beautiful, loved how Battousai and Kenshin worked with each other to deliver the crippling blow. Nice nod back to canon, that Jin-e isn't just a random whacko, but working under someone else. (Makoto Shishio? Hm...)

The Virus... whew those are creepy. But it certainly defused what was rapidly becoming a too tense situation. Target Alpha certainly isn't putting their best manners forward for Kenshin, I don't blame him for wanting to go his own way.

You left enough hints to make me near certain that Kenshin and Yahiko are descended from Battousai's first "true bearer". No wonder Kenshin's ki was so compatible, he's family already.

One quick question, maybe something in an author's note, what precisely is a Crowley? At first I thought it was a human who worked magic (vice a Sorcerer who is a Kin that uses magic), but Sanosuke mentioned he'd been Crowley since age eight, and Jin-e classified Kaoru as Crowley. So is a Crowley simply a human who knows about the supernatural? With other terms/designations for human who wield magic (Gensai mentioned Witches.)

This story is so good! I've been babbling about it for days now to my friends, and finally decided to send a review. I like the whole concept behind your story. It's brilliant!

Good story thus far. Your writing is, as it always is, excellant. Only one suggestion, could up put up an author's note with a quick over view of the elements from NightLife you're using? Most people are going to be stuck figuring out things like Commune, Crowley, Virus, and Edges from context clues. While this can be done, something gets lost when you get bogged down in trying to figure out what exactly an Edge or a Crowley is instead of paying attention to the story.
