Fenris Jin chapter 4 . 3/11/2013 Battousai's memories had me bauling..! Although admittedly, the violet eyed baby sort of killed the dream of the good old days of a lady dojo owner and a rurouni in the Bakamatsu.. XD Hmm... I'd have enjoyed visiting Sano's wake.. I'm sure it would have been a blast if he had decided to come in from the front door too! We'll it still had the effect though.. XD I, for one, am glad that the brown hair is gone. Geez, how unfitting for Himura to don such an unflattering hair color.. Battousai's beautiful mane is not something to forego! ..and here I thought the Irish descent would have taken care of the coloring issue. The back and forth conversation between Battousai and Kenshin was rather confusing during the fight with Jin-e.. But that actually help in that moment. The confusion in between added to the chaos and suspense. Kyaa! Looks like Kenshin's a descendant of the first host.. How will Kaoru fit in the picture? ..and how could Battousai's first host earn the name the title Demon of Kyoto if he had been a sakabatou from the very start? Wouldn't it be more reasonable that after his death as a human that the reverse blade was forged? also.. could there be an implied reincarnation..? |
Fenris Jin chapter 3 . 3/11/2013 Hiko's the one who requested for Muramasa to forge Battousai right? Did it also mean that when he called him 'my child' it meant that Hiko really had a son/apprentice? Someone that the piece of ivory (fang?) came from? It's all rather confusing with these samurais you see, eccentric people that they are. They sometimes refer to objects, spirit-sword not withholding, as a someone. Anyway, since Battousai and Kenshin are two separate entities.. I find myself rooting for the hitokiri more than for our rurouni.. XD Damn! Sano! But.. He must have survived somehow! Probably not human anymore.. not exactly..But still! A very tragic bromance story! T_T ..and what's a Crowley?! Kaoru's a Crowley? An informed Human? LOL, I can't believe Kaoru's dad used to Taser her for training.. LOL, actually, I think I can.. *shrugs* |
Fenris Jin chapter 2 . 3/11/2013 *jaw drops* *blinks* *gathers self* *closes mouth* Umm.. Yes.. Umm.. Right.. Wow..! That was some freaking chase! If I were on rurouni mode right now I'd be going 'Oro!' myself...XD I'd say Battousai is pretty lucky to be in the presence of err- open-minded and well adjusted humans.. From Himura, to Yahiko to Kaoru.. All of them seem to take these thing fairly well.. XD I had a good laugh while Sano was going over his story with the two detectives. I could just imagine Sano trying to keep his cool while running through with that 'theory' of his. |
Fenris Jin chapter 1 . 3/11/2013 This is like.. Whoa.. Although I'm not familiar with NightLife the information loaded in the narratives and the what could be filtered in the conversations are very helpful. In fact, so far I have not felt any information overload, just some mild confusion that one would associate with a newly introduced universe. I'm a bit skeptical about having Himura and Battousai as separate entities.. but so far, it's going well.. BTW, I like the Irish descent angle.. XD |
Glow in the Rain chapter 6 . 11/16/2012 I've been meaning to leave a review all week for both this piece and its sequel and now I've finally squeezed in the time. Anyway; I enjoyed this read. There were a lot of unique elements that I appreciated and you managed to really capture the characters personalities very, very well for the environment you've spun. I do wish that you'd taken more liberties with the plot and strayed from the manga-it would have been interesting to see what you could have done. Loved Battousai and Kenshin in this. Interesting OC's, too. Definitely caught my interest with this piece, and even more so with your sequel. Great job; thank you for writing it. (And many thanks for the footnotes, that really helped me keep everything straight!) |
Taryn Myst chapter 6 . 9/14/2012 Great great tale! Loved every bit! |
hootowl chapter 6 . 9/14/2012 this is a fantastic story! how have i not read this before? keep up the good work. |
BiblioMatsuri chapter 6 . 7/20/2012 Had no clue about the NightLife RPG. Still think this is awesome. |
Shiro Inutoko chapter 6 . 12/31/2011 Can a 'Drain' work over the internet? 'Cause I think your stories are addicting. I hope you're serious about that "for now" part, 'cause I really want to see more of this one. |
Pia Bartolini chapter 6 . 11/16/2011 Wow. This has to be the most excellent RK fic I hadn't heard of, the lack of reviews is criminal! I generally don't like crossovers and genre mixes but you did it artfully here and it felt very 'natural', not at all like shoehorning characters into a crossover AU ;) Brilliant job, I can't wait to move onto the sequel! |
librarycat9 chapter 6 . 11/4/2011 :D Does the for now mean there is a sequel? I shall have to investigate this... :D Thank you for the story! I greatly enjoyed it! |
Eria chapter 6 . 8/14/2011 This is a fascinating piece. I usually don't like crossover AUs, but this was written extremely well, in spite of a few place where the writing was confusing to understand. I'll check out the sequel, post haste. Thank you for writing this! |
Deep Space Cowgirl chapter 1 . 7/22/2011 Hey! I've read this story more times than I can count, and it remains one of my favorites. :) But I wanted to give you a heads-up... I don't know if it's my computer, or if it's the site, but a lot of paragraphs seem to be breaking at odd places in this chapter. (as in, right in the middle of sentences) Now I KNOW that this chapter didn't read this way the last time I read this fic, but it really makes it difficult to follow the flow of the story. Thought you might like to know so you can get it fixed. (sorry if you've already had people complaining about this... I just don't want such an awesome story to lose readers because the site had a formatting error!) |
FullMentalPanic chapter 6 . 5/27/2011 Ch. 5 continued Last one annoyingly posted itself before I was done. Sniff of disapproval. As I was saying, "It's all right. I'm here. I will not leave you to face this alone. You have the strength to be what you are, I swear it." Really does convey some bolstering comfort, even Kenshin doesn't pick up on it _. It was interesting to approach the loss of Kenshin's 'old life' as a sacrifice that he should honor with his approach to his new life. "I know," Himura broke in, "that anything may be misused." So true, and you do good job of showing the professionals reaction to Kenshin/Sai and showing what it all looks like from their perspective. The way the assume the worst really gets my gall, but you do a good job portraying it. "And something snapped, old instinct meshing with new like interwoven fingers, and there suddenly wasn't a fight at all. Virus was here. In his territory. And Yahiko would not be safe while it lived." I like the epiphany. There's energy and such a sense of rightness in it despite the unease that Kenshin feels previously. Absolutely adored the "I don't hate them, I kill them" line. It's not necessary to hate to kill and to kill justly; in fact some of the most just executions may be done without hate. I don't have any fore-knowledge of Virus, so all I can say is that it was an interesting fight and I'm glad the bodies infected were no longer alive. Glad it seems like Debrowski will make it out okay. Double tap, words to live by. "I'm a very calm person, that I am." Quietly cracked up over this, it's true...but it's not! Ah, he ruined Kaoru's favorite blue ribbon, I mean sweatshirt. I like how Sai is willing to support Kenshin in a different life from Ward's and how they both realize that convincing everyone to let them do that may be complicated. Ch. 6 "Tani-dono" Loved that disrespectful honorific. I like how people have to hold Sai in order to speak with him, and they see at as so normal. I have respect for the lady who figures out that Sai and Kenshin can't be separated now, and I like how Sai explains the situation and still tries to play on Target Alpha's own interests to try to get them to go along with him and Kenshin's wants. Great bit where Sai talks about how Kenshin's mom influenced him. "He's cute." Another great thing about Rurouni Kenshin, he seems like the least likely person to be Battousai, until you see him in action and see how deadly everything about him can be. Were-wolf bite usage, interesting. I had a good time reading about the interplay between Kenshin and Sai. "'We should-'No." Love this, Kenshin is turning into someone Sai listens to and will bow to the will of...and then Sai still has a strong will and set of his own motives, and will step in. Hmm, interesting ancestral background coming up for the Himuras. "Sighed, rubbing his bandaged arm, sat down - in a corner, not a chair" Excellent! He chose the most defensible spot in the room. Are you drawing elements from the non-Kenshin element of the crossover for Kenshin's ID hiding parents. I'm totally spinning trying to keep up with it. Liked that bit where Kenshin's amused over how Sano thinks of him as a kid, you put in a reflection on the changes wrought in him as well with Sai's comment on how he can't avoid mirrors forever. "Jails, counselors; psychiatrists who would see only a child who killed, and not the heart that could refrain from killing so long as those it loved remained safe." I was really struck by this, and I'm really taken with how you portray this concept. I'm glad Kenshin and Battousai are working out how to have each of them speak, and when it is to the best advantage to let Sai have the floor. Beautifully written part on the rooftop. Kenshin training and learning sword skills, I always like those, and Sano's vulnerability and how Kenshin bolsters Sai to be able to comfort Sano. Good job. "you never draw unless you're prepared to kill." Awesome job with Kaoru! Totally snickered over how Battousai smooches Kaoru's cheek then leaves Kenshin to deal with it. "Prey that is not afraid," Kenshin stated, amber glinting in violet. "Prey that lives with what the worst of them have forgotten: love, and honor, and the will to fight for your right to share the world." Powerful stuff. Amazingly strong moments in this story, and the stuff in between is great too! |
FullMentalPanic chapter 5 . 5/27/2011 Kaoru's annoyance with all the guys who've taken over her living room floor was great, as was her take on the Beauty and the Beast story. Personally, I was always really dissatisfied with how the prince looked in the Disney version after he transformed, I much preferred him as the beast. As far as anyone can tell his NAME is Beast, it's like it's a completely different character that you no longer feel any attachment toward! Kaoru's whole approach to what happened to Kenshin and how there are going to be some mishaps that she equates with pubescent clumsiness really evokes her character's strong points. "Cooking might be an invitation to disaster, but she could make a pretty fair sandwich." You use her so well, both comically and dramatically, to. Liked the back story of Sano and Katsu. So he's NOT vampire, just has an altered digestive system, huh? Interesting to get golden-eyed Battousai in on this. "The more he learns my soul, as I do his, the less we can harm one another." This is really fascinating and I love the, "No. He is my sword. As I am his." It's a two way street. Proudly satisfied that Yahiko and Kenshin are going to stand together and NOT forget what has happened. They have each others' back. Yahiko reaction is awesome. He's enthralled with the whole thing, but you still very effectively communicate how odd and unnerving it is for him to have someone else looking out of his brother's eyes. He's not going to have to much trouble adjusting apparently. I really enjoyed Yahiko's analogy of standing under a dragon's wing, as well. More power also equals greater ability to protect. Really impressed with how you do the interaction between Kenshin and Sai. The tension that still exists between them, their disagreements, Kenshin's horror of being a killer, and Sai's assurance that there is a place for it. "It's all right. I'm here. I will not leave you to face this alone. You have the strength to be what you are, I swear it." This was genuinely touching and it rea |
