If Naruto and sasuke knows whats to come,they can prevent things and munipuate events to their advantage like knowing Kabuto is a spy for the Sound and killing him before he can warn Orochimaru since I'm sure they retained all of their chakra limit and skills before they went back to the past or finding Kimmaro(bone guy)and bring him back to the leaf since he is powerful enough to almost kill Gaara and he is like them in a sense. Even if they retain their abilities before the time travel, it would be hard to kill Itachi since he is an ANUB captain and more skilled then them but not skilled as in the future when they meet Itachi.
