Wow! This was incredible. You did a great job tying in all the snippets from your main story :)

This is wonderful, as good as "The End of Days!" I love that you decided to give us this insight into the King of the Dead and his relationship to Sarah. And that end to the flashback, how the previous King switched places with Rael...I couldn't imagine a more tragic outcome. I don't know if you'll see this, you wrote it so long ago, but thank you for writing this!

Rael is an interesting character. He isn't really evil but not really good at all either. It is an interesting twist that his feelings are probably not his own and he even realizes that but doesn't care. It makes sense and it makes him a sympathetic character.

If your writing were food, it would be a feast of the richest morsels known to man-savory and delectable, like the most flavorful roast with caramelized vegetables and scrumptious bittersweet chocolate mousse at the end. The kind of meal you want to devour all at once, but then at the same time try to eat slowly as to make each bite last forever.

Makes me wish I was a better writer... and a better cook. :)

This was so heartbreakingly beautiful! I feel so bad for Rael now though! I mean, Jareth/Sarah all the way. But I wish Rael had a happy ending too... oh well, ON WITH THE REST OF THE STORY!

I am glad that this side-story exists, because I was a little(lot) baffled by the desire of two powerful, otherworldly men for someone like Sarah. I mean, she's fabulous but there are some limits of reality to our... fantasy. Then it becomes apparent through this sidebar that the desire is actually singular, and somehow that makes it entirely more tragic.

And Now I Know. Thank you. I can see how this would be hard to work into the original story, especially when it is from the King of the Dead's perspective, but I'm glad you found a way to present it because it makes Rael's love for Sarah (such as it is) less out of the blue. Also gives Jareth more of an excuse for what he did at the end than 'you tried to steal my woman, jerk' (which, less face it, man has been fighting about from the dawn of time and probably won't stop just because they happen to be mythical beings as well).

As for the King of the Dead's little deal: sucker. Though I do wonder, now that he's had these little flashbacks (or is he consciously having them?), I wonder if the old deal would stand up should he say her name now. Just a thought. Of course, he might not be in the position to say much now that Jareth's gotten through with him.

Very good! Well written with good flow in the story, a nice plot and suspense.
