|Reviews for Sonic Riders, Before the Race|
| final.authority chapter 1 . 11/18/2007
That was an excellent idea (one of those: "Doh! I wish I had thought of that!" moments...) that was very well written. I love how the beginning felt like a newspaper article, talking about the premise of the game. Very clever. Also, the idea of taking it hour by hour allowed for some cool scene transitions: like Rouge undoing the screws in the duct. My only real criticism is the one instance of fourth-wall breaking.
Overall, the tone was intelligent, but remained interesting and conversational. A great addtion to my favorites list... ;)

heh, nice story, whats with your penname btw?
at first i found your style to be a bit too ornamental and wordy for my liking, but i soon got used to it and now find it quite cool. seems like you really like nack, huh?
of course i am a bit disappointed that you didnt chronicle the game afterwards...anyway, keep up the great work, please! :)

| Whinnie chapter 1 . 3/10/2006
Wow, is that all? I was hoping for more, but...
ROFLOL! Sorry, I hope you didn't fall for my fake reply! Anyway, I have to be honest: I LOVED THIS STORY! It follows everything, and is much more interesting than a history book, LOL. I especially liked how you included all the characters (except for the boring robots) in the race. NICE! Looking forward to more of your fics!

| Tylec Asroc chapter 1 . 2/21/2006
I get a good chuckle seeing your little pokes and twists to the conventions of the Sonic world - Knuckles wising up to Eggman's schemes and offering the obvious way out; Rouge finally foiled on one of her easy-entry heists; Eggman grumbling about his 'competition' while exhibiting his typical cluelessness to matters of common sense, a trademark in your stories. Be it Santa Claus or the Red Baron, he's not much for fashion sense. And whether it’s his robots planning mutiny, Rouge tracking his hideouts, or his latest henchman talking behind his back, he’s never one to lend seriousness to anyone beyond himself.
For however short their appearances, I enjoyed the camaraderie you demonstrated among the Rogues - the playful tickles, their familiar monologues and catch-phrases, secret handshakes and mottos tie them all closely together. The pecking order of their little group is well established with Wave, "the smart one" fixated with details, planning and setbacks, while her layabout, laissez-fair captain has a relaxed confidence in their abilities. Storm seems to be Jet's strong and silent 'yes-man'.
The ready willingness of 'Robotnik Inc.' to supply Team Sonic with air boards left me in a suspicious state as well, and I was pepped that your address to this issue allowed another cameo to our favorite mustelidae.

Wow! Once again you've managed to tell a story that if anyone else had done it, it would be borring, but you tell it with such an interesting wrighting style, that it's INSANE! I will never be able to get over how you wright small details in an interesting way. No matter who was the subject matter the story rocked! Although I liked Eggman best. Are you gonna do a fanfic about the Shadow game?
God bless you.
I am the Eggman! and I'm gonna win this race.
| RyukoVulpix chapter 1 . 2/21/2006
And now, more than ever, I have to pick up this game. :P Heavy artillery and hundreds of endings are great, but I'm ready to get back to the basics... with a twist, of course.
The first thing I have to note is that I simply adored all of the dialogue in this piece. I'm not sure why, but that's what really jumped out at me - particularly Rouge's and Shadow's lines. They say that good dialogue is supposed to go unnoticed, but right away I realized that I was hearing every single word spoken in my mind in the voice of whoever was talking. And, all of their actions seemed perfectly suited to the occasion.
"It's like, even when we win, he wins." That's the quote I thought of (it's from Homestar Runner) as I read the scene just before "08:39." True, true...
References to our favorite little weasel made me smile, as well. :) I don't know much about him, only what I've seen in the Archie comics and in "Sonic the Fighters," so it'll be interesting if he does make an appearance in "Sonic Riders," after all.
Interesting how one of Shadow's first major actions, post-"Shadow the Hedgehog," is to enter a hoverboard race, even if Chaos Emeralds are the prize. Not exactly what you'd expect of him, but by this point I've learned better than to even attempt to predict his actions. The scene with him and Sonic speaking, however brief, was particularly interesting, since I just read a similar exchange between the two of them in the latest comic issue. Very brief, but insightful as to how exactly they are unable to understand each other. I liked that scene a lot.
Eggman, Eggman... Quite nearly as rash, and definitely as competitive, as Sonic. You have to admire that perseverance. Amy falls under that, as well.
Great piece of writing. I'm quite looking forward to the game (especially as I was never allowed to so much as touch a skateboard. But, that had nothing to do with centers of gravity; rather, my first attempts at "City Escape" rather... frightened those around me. That, and utilizing rollerblades have allowed me to emulate a certain hedgehog to some degree. No, I have never attempted grinding on the Golden Gate Bridge). Hopefully, the game will be just as good as your pre-release take on it. :)

Wow, good job! I absolutely loved it! I'm anxious to get Sonic Riders myself, and this has got me going even more! Just asking, do you know which version is better: PS2 or Gamecube?
