Reviews for Getting Eaten Alive |

batfan7 chapter 1 . 12/26/2006 I absolutly loved this whole story. I'm not usually a big fan of Superman (or at least happen to like Batman a lot more), but this is the first story I've read where Clark is written as an intelligent, REAL person and it was just fantastic. I especially enjoyed the fact that it was written as if the readers were not idiots and needed to be force-fed every little subtle detail. Anyway, I can't say enough good things about this and hope you plan on writing more fics :-) |
lois lane is my hero chapter 10 . 12/25/2006 That was awesome! I loved it. I love how you wrote Lois and Clark. I really loved it. I hope you write more Lois/Clark fics or a sequel to this maybe. I loved your Clark. I really did. He was just brilliant and just so loveable and so was Lois. I stayed up till the early hours of the morning to finish reading this. Great fic. |
Arhazivory chapter 10 . 12/15/2006 WOW...this story is so...serene, so I dunno. Something about your writing style makes everything so cool. I can't find the word to describe it but once I have, I'll let you know. Needless to say, I really love your story. My favourite line is: And then, softly, looking back up at her, “Lois Lane, forgive me. For I’ve sinned against you time and again.” And he took the cuffs between thumb and forefinger and peeled them apart, like paper. GREAT story. |
neech chapter 10 . 12/8/2006 Oh my goodness. I would rave about your utter genius and talent at writing, but at this point in time, words fail me. You are just about the best writer I've read in regards to Superman fiction. I am your adoring fan ever after. Please keep up the fantastic work and update soon :) |
Ol' Dandy Me chapter 10 . 12/2/2006 I was reading over this last chapter again and I realized I'd never reviewed... so I cleaned up my old account so I could! This is probably the best Superman story I've ever read. You know Lois and Clark so well... I absolutely loved the friendship they built up, Lois' decision not to figure him out... the plot was well thought out and VERY creative... And there was just this tone throughout the whole thing I've been trying to describe for awhile but I can't put a label on it. It's just the right mix of romance and angst, a little ambiguous but with enough content that I was never confused, just wanted more. I don't even know why I'm trying to list things. I loved the whole thing. I wish I could write like you. I've got these ideas floating around in my head for a story, but I could never make it turn out anywhere near this good. Ugh, I'm sorry for the rambling, I just adore this story. I hope you're writing more, although if you ended it there I wouldn't blame you... too much ;P |
Metropolis-Rising chapter 10 . 11/29/2006 Wow, this is still as fantastic as ever. I believe I've said it before but you have this amazing clean sproach to dialog that gives it this intense noir feeling. Yet despite all of that, your character voices are so straight forward and almost formal...it's fantastic. There isn't a hint of slang or cleverness in a way that is brilliant and uncluttered. Your Lois is great, Clark is equally great. I still love how flawless you manage to make the science behind it all sound...still magical but refined. Complex enough to amaze but sharp and to the point so that everyone gets it. While I'm not sure if this needs continuing, I hope that you do go forward with it. It's very much a story that I would purchse given a chance in a bookstore and for it to be here and free...wild. Thanks so much for this! |
Daze-dly chapter 2 . 11/28/2006 Argh, this really teaches me to review when its fresh in my memory! There were bits in this chappy that were just laugh out loud funny and got me going, "Man, *where* does she get this from?" - yet again. Fave line: "in designing himself he would have focused less on superior sight and hearing and more on superior powers of concentration." Classic. And the last scene, so vivid and poignant - all the power of the universe but powerless to do something so small. *sigh* I've had to put this story on offline just so that I don't use up all my MB usage from reading and re-reading. Well, back to bedlam for me. *gasp* you're absolutely right; the next and -oh no!- last chapter is gonna be a killer. I think you can pull it off:o) You've done an amazing job so far, all that talent won't let you down in the final stretch, I'm sure;o) Til next chappy, ~Daze P.S. Oh! You're really gonna change that line? *pumps fist in air* Alright! I feel like I've changed the course of time or something;o) |
Dsgdiva chapter 10 . 11/12/2006 I was so excited to see an update, and then to find two chapters! Awesome! Poor Lois and Clark, they are always getting thier communication wires crossed, aren't they? Excellent job with the dialogue, sounds very realistic. (Not that I know too many people that have been in these particular situations...) Tell me this isn't the end! Keep it coming! Please! |
MacShimi chapter 10 . 11/12/2006 Once again a thoughtful and insightful portrayal of how a relationship between one of popular culture's most famous couples might work. I'd love to see this story completed, and it appears that you're in the home stretch. Keep up the good work. |
Daze-dly chapter 1 . 11/11/2006 Hehe, that's alright; I'm all over the place with my reviewing so that probably confused you a bit;o) I've decided to review from the beginning, cos I'm not allowed to review more than once per chapter:o/ So, here goes! When I started reading, you were already about three chapters in, and I actually thought you were just doing a really random string of insights into the Superman saga, that the chapters weren't really connected or working toward a purpose. Mm, how pleasantly surprised I was:o) I think this chappy sets the tone for the story to follow. It sets up Lois' character nicely, and her struggle to come to terms with Clark, who is apparently blissfully ignorant of her frustration, is intriguing and laugh out loud *funny*. What also gets me is the fact that I was sucked into the story even though Clark had very little screen time! Quite an accomplishment, I can tell you. We also get a look into Perry and Lois' relationship, which I think the movie really tried to highlight, and is hardly ever touched in fan fiction (I think). Yeah, I like that about this story; even the supporting characters feel fleshed out. Really lovely. heh, btw, (*cough* just to show you how many times I've read this story) when Clark bumps into the wall, last time he rolls his eyes... now he's amused. (er, I might have just imagined that, however, so please ignore if i did) I kinda liked it better when he rolls his eyes. *slinks away quickly* You know, this is a very pleasant way to take a break from studying. What are your plans for after this story? I do hope you write more, if you have the chance:o) Til next chappy, ~Daze |
Daze-dly chapter 8 . 11/8/2006 *happy sigh* I've got an exam in four hours, so I thought, let's procrastinate just a *teeny* bit longer...;o) I really loved this chapter to bits. Great action scene. Hehe, love how he just "charges" off, and Lois' utter bewilderment when he does so. You know, at first I wasn't sure how this story was gonna work with two POVs. But I see now how you can make it work, using different POVs for different chapters to get maximum effect. And how even with the scene being played out from Lois' POV, we still get to understand what Clark's thinking. As always, love your descriptions. Superman as a "wrathful king", a "faithful angel of death", making all other superman episodes "ordinary... like opening a jar or thumbing a cigarette lighter" And the fight scene in the air, I could picture it very clearly. *claps hands* Wonderful! *grunt* gotta get back to the books. Til next chappy, ~Daze |
MoriahThePariah chapter 10 . 11/5/2006 Dear God. This story hurts my brain with its cryptic-ness, but it's the most magnificent Superman fic I've ever read, and probably ever will read. Thank you for being such an incredible writer, even if you strip away any desire for me to make my own pitiful attempts at fanfiction. |
E Kelly chapter 10 . 11/5/2006 Another couple of chapters full of beautiful, authentic emotional beats. Lois' grappling with the reality just revealed to her is pitch-perfect, as is Clark's desperation to both have the moment and get past it. His fears as a stranger in a strange land were marvelously heart-breaking. Lois, even in her stunned state, rising to immediately cover for Clark was touching. And meanwhile you keep the plot moving forward with terrific subtle touches. What to say about Chapter 10? Clark's misunderstanding, his damn fool noble, misguided willingness to always sacrifice his own desires causing him to alienate Lois as she tried to find her footing - that was a level of Superman characterization I haven't seen in probably fifteen years in any medium. Extraordinary. Your ability to build tension, release it, build it higher again - I envy it. When, in the middle of all this, you drop in, "Of course, the question is how you 'focus' a magnetic field, out of its natural shape, at all. Let alone where it's nearly linear. It's a scientific mystery. Personally I do it by squinting." I laughed out loud (on the train which drew several curious looks...) Love the science, love the way you got around it! There's not much harder in superheroes to pull off than the Superman/ Lois reveal aftermath scene, and yours is the best I've ever read, seen or listened to. Infinitely romantic, each character further developed by the events, rather than diminished or somehow simply not acting like themselves (which is so often what happens). I kowtow. Yours is a realizing of Lois and Clark that are believeably a legendary love. |
stillthetooth chapter 10 . 11/2/2006 I was at work on Halloween, dressed in a female version of the shirt-rip costume and looking forward to showing my Superman pumpkin off to trick-or-treaters (I'm a hardcore pumpkin carver, so I actually carved the official SR poster on an artificial pumpkin). And I check the email address that that my fanfic alerts go to, specifically to see if you had updated. And when I saw that there was not one, but TWO new chapters, I almost fell out of my chair:) So that gave me ANOTHER thing to look forward to going home to. This was my favorite Halloween I have *ever* had, and getting to read so much of your story is one of the reasons. As I predicted several chapters ago when I started anticipating the post-reveal conversation, I am going to be going around sighing romantically for a good week. I love just how real this last chapter was. Like it so often happens in real life, the only real anger here results from misunderstanding, and I love how once they recognized the misunderstanding, their compassion, empathy, and love immediately kicked in. Someone mentioned that they didn't like the use of the word "honey." I admit that jarred me a bit at first, too, mostly because I'm picturing Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth while reading, and it's hard for me to hear BR's Supes/Clark saying "honey." But once I got used to it, I started liking it. I think one of the strengths of your story is that you are not simply writing a story using someone else's version of the characters, but rather you created your own unique interpretations of their personalities. I'm not going to even start quoting favorite lines because I'd just end up quoting the whole chapter:) But let me say this: If you wanted to just keep on writing in this universe forever, I would be thrilled. I can assure you that you'd always have at least one reader. |
Daze-dly chapter 10 . 11/2/2006 *drops to the floor* *gets up, prepares to review, but has forgotten how to function from sheer force of last chapter* You know, I've read so many Superman fics. Especially the ones where he's about to reveal himself to Lois. And I've found that with every single one, there's always that *something* lacking at the climax and the aftermath. Makes me a terrible reviewer because I know the lead up was good, but once you got past it, it kind of fell flat and I can't offer any constructive criticism as to why. Hm. Having said that, I also can't explain why on earth yours is so different. Why I felt so satisfied by the end of the chappy. I dunno. "It left me stunned, touched, dumbfounded" ;o) Best part? I had to block the bottom half of the screen so I could read it line by line, and this line was heart melting: “If you leave me alone on this world, Lois Lane, I’ll get eaten alive.” *sniff sniff* Speechless, I am. Hey, I think I've figured out why I like this scene:o) Neither Clark nor Lois are portrayed as bad guys. Yeah, that's it. Clark says sorry, and Lois is hurt, but it's not melodrama! yes! That's why I love this story soo) They're so in character. I love that they both came in with the wrong understanding when all Clark wants is Lois and all Lois wants is Clark. *sniff* Aw, it's all so darned perfect. LOL. *Still* no declarations of love! Another great aspect of the story. The romance is so palpable you can almost eat it, yet they haven't even said anything. Although, Clark's been dropping a lot of honeys and sweethearts. *grin* One part I didn't quite understand - and it could be because I was reading this chappy at 1am - was this bit: “Lois,” he said softly. “It was never just you. They’re not human. I’m not.” Sorry, who was he talking about? I usually like the cryptic-ness of your writing, it's so much more satisfying when I work it out on my own, but this bit was a little ambiguous to me? Oh, and before I forget - upon reading it second time round, I absolutely stunned by your scientific explanations of how Superman's powers work. I don't think I've ever seen anyone even *attempt* to do that, and you pulled it off like you created Superman himself! Hehe, another fave line: “We may even have varying opinions on it,” And a beautiful closing scene. Hehe, totally makes up for that humdinger of a cliffie in chapter 7! Btw, you updated these last two chappies really really quickly! Hm, it could be a reason why there aren't as many reviews as I (or, anyone really) would expect. Sometimes, people review for multiple chapters in one, and get too lazy to review each separately. NOT that I'm complaining about the speedy updates! Nuh-uh, no ma'am. Totally into it! Hm. Actually, ignore what I just wrote there. *shakes head* What a dum dum. Phew! What a long a rambling review:o/ *applauds* This fic is great. Can't wait for the next chapter. ~Daze |
