Very interesting take on the Bunshin :)

Honestly, this is the second spin on Kage Bushin i really like (along with the where it literaly divides you: ALL clones are real, all can pop until there is only one left).
A tidbit: Naruto knows DIEING, he doesn't know DEATH. He felt himself die a thousand times and more, but he never got the rest from beyond.

Dang, this is pretty good. It's rare that we see Naruto as serious as this without life or death consequences... but on the topic of life or death, I guess anyone would sober up.

Awesome story. One major canon error, though: Kage Bunshin is /not/ a forbidden technique. /Tajuu/ Kage Bunshin - *Mass* Shadow Clone - is what Naruto learned from the Forbidden Scroll; it is banned (in canon, at leat) because making large numbers of clones is a death sentence for anyone but a jinchuuriki or kage. The normal Kage Bunshin is an ordinary jonin-level technique. It's rare, because even a small number of clones takes too much chackra to be worth it in combat for most jonin, but it's not banned.
Of course, that's in canon; if this is AU, that's just fine.
