No! Don't make him so sad. I love tis story but it opens up some options for you. Could you please please please do a sequel. Call it "pleasently suprised" or something, With the scene at his house when Carter tells him about her second thoughts about the wedding, his thoughts in the obseervation room with Carter in Threads and then conclude it with your version of what happens when she tells him or when he finds out that she has broken off the engagement with Pete. It coud be at the cabin after Jacob's death that she tells him. He could find out from Daniel, Teal'c knows, and then he asks her why she didn't tell him that she broke off the wedding with Pete.
