Reviews for The Once and Future Taiyoukai |

Soraslove chapter 15 . 9/8/2021 How can kagome be so naive? Regardless, midoriko know's kagome is from the future. Kagome should at least tell sesshoumaru to even the playing field. She 'claims to trust him' how there trust without truth... doesn't seem like she trusts him to me. Sesshoumaru would have been better off if he just let her die, all this girl does is cause problems. |
Soraslove chapter 14 . 9/8/2021 I'm glad kagome didn't forget what happened in the village. I'm all forgiveness just for peace, to forget that anyone is capable of evil even after witnessing and dealing with it yourself... that's just fucking stupid, tbh. I always had a major issue with kagome's character in the canon cause of that. Inuyasha in general was verbally, emotionally abusive towards kagaome... throughout the entire series and kagome just decided to forget it and be with him anyways. That led me to believe she ended up some sort of psychological disorder... no one should ever put up with that sort of behavior. |
Soraslove chapter 13 . 9/8/2021 Poor kagome, it really is duty or love in the end. |
Soraslove chapter 6 . 9/8/2021 Oh no... poor kagome. |
Soraslove chapter 5 . 9/8/2021 I wonder who it is that's stalking them... Holy kagome is already gone, man, gg. |
Soraslove chapter 4 . 9/8/2021 Ya, sesshoumaru was always honorable, tbf. |
Soraslove chapter 1 . 9/7/2021 I mean kikyo isn't wrong, kagome does endanger them to a certain point because she hasn't bothered train her powers or gain any skills in combat. |
4Eva Dreaming chapter 17 . 9/1/2021 Yaaaay so glad Midoriko isn’t actually evil I was so sad last chapter! |
4Eva Dreaming chapter 16 . 9/1/2021 I’m so confused why did you make Midoriko evil? She is the best and most selfless miko in history that’s how the jewl was created? How could the jewl have been created now? |
prometheus06 chapter 29 . 6/18/2021 You craft epics so effortlessly. Truly this is so mighty in the telling and having read this first and Beside you in Time one can see your mastery of story. You have crafted such an amazing epic, you are so detailed in your worldbuilding and character development that it is a crime you have not written a novel of your own. You have earned the right to be a full time writer. I cannot echo CrimpyTomato591's review and words enough. They caught it all. On my own note you have truly created the best explanation for Sesshomaru's demeanor in the Inuyasha series. You put in a lot of work and are undaunted in your tellings. Please continue to write. We would appreicate even your one shot stories of Sesshomaru and Kagome. We need more of your writing, even in the smallest of fashions. Well done! |
Guest chapter 29 . 6/11/2021 Thank you for the beautiful story! The story has a lot of adventure and it entwines so nice with the feelings the characters have. I love the way how you portrayed Toga. You added a touch of humanity on him that perfectly fits. But the most I loved the description on how the bound between Sesshomaru and Kagome works since they got separated back in time until they meet the witch again. The moment when he said that he completed the ritual was breathtaking. I did not expect that at all. And the story about the witch and first humans and demons was beautifully described. Making Kagome fight with a sword and being better with it than with arrows was a nice addition. Ah.. and little Kirara gave a wide smile. The story is really entertaining and keeps you want to read more, to see what will happen What I hadn’t enjoyed was that sometimes it gave me the feel that there was a little lack of credibility in some situations even if they were explained or motivated. For example Inuyasha being really mean with Kagome at beginning, Sesshomaru’s headaches and pain for 300 years, the fight with the cobra. But beside those little things is a good read and you have some interesting ideas. |
Esso1979 chapter 29 . 5/29/2021 Absolutely Marvelous. Thank you h guy or sharing this amazing story of my favorite anime couple! |
CrimpyTomato591 chapter 29 . 5/13/2021 What can I say except WOW! What another fantastic story! I read this whole thing in a day, and I have no regrets about doing so. It's difficult to say whether I enjoyed this or Beside You In Time (I'm just gonna abbreviate it from now on) more given how different they are, but I'd like to compare them regardless. I think that what made BYIT so appealing was the historical progression, where you did an incredible job integrating the fading world of the demons into real, human events, and you took your time with having the two protagonists get together. That being said, the distance between some of the chapters wasn't always my favorite. You did some great work bridging the decades between chapters, but the truth was that those gaps still existed. It led to a constant feeling of wanting more, knowing that there would probably be interesting stories between each segment. I really appreciated the way you handled... well, everything, here! The writing quality was up to your usual gold standard, and storywise this was an absolute treat. I don't plan on doing a chapter-by-chapter discussion, but I'll still do a full content review of the each general section: The prologue did some great setup, with some phenomenal characterization and a realistic means for how Kagome got into her situation. Not really sure what else to say there, other than good job! I really loved the entirety of the early time period, where you drew from the minimal lore of what happens before the show and extended it in some super creative and interesting ways. Seeing how you characterized people like Midoriko and Toga was fascinating, and your addition of characters like Koga's parents was extremely well done. I have a lot of respect for the fact that the general goal (to find the witch and fix the well) remained constant, but you had fun and took a bunch of detours on that journey. The lore about the first humans and taiyoukai was super interesting, and seeing how it tied to the rest of the story was amazing. Honestly, I don't have any nitpicks with this entire section. You took what was already part of the canonical story and extended it in some super organic ways, and the result was a sweet adventure through a familiar yet different landscape. The creativity here was off that charts, and that is always a pleasure to read. I was so happy to see you continue the story for so long after Kagome's return. You didn't just take the easy route and end things there, with an idealistic romance complete and the threat of Naraku still looming over the group. The ways the plan failed and hurt Sesshomaru and Kagome, as well as how they reacted to those things, were again, great (I can't find any word other than great, and I can tell its getting overused quite a bit). I don't think I'll dive into my thoughts on specific plot points (given that almost all of them will probably be me saying 'great'), but the final chapters were a wonderful conclusion to things, giving every character a happy ending. I was really glad you didn't end up demonizing Kikyo, and the endings given to both her and Kagome were really nice to see. I think what made this story the *slightest* bit better than BYIT was really in your time travel discussion, which was one of my favorite aspects. I can understand some people getting confused, given the complexity of the things you talked about, but I (think I) understood almost everything and really appreciated how methodical you were with it all. The whole idea of a 'time demon' was super interesting, and the ideas of Time and Fate were really well done. Not really much else to say about that, if I'm being honest other than again, great work! One of my favorite things about you as an author is that you always have plans to tie up loose ends, and you never take the easy way out. You have a gift for giving me exactly what I'm hoping for as a reader, and the inventive ways you explain otherwise vague occurrences brings me so much excitement and joy. One of the examples that comes to mind is why Kagome lost her memories after her return. While it did a great job to create some drama, you actually took the time to explain WHY that happened, rather than just attribute it to the uncertainty of time travel or some other supernatural force. It may not seem like much, but the consistency in which you do this type of thing is super refreshing to see on this site, where many authors don't really have plans that specific in what they're writing. On a more general note, I absolutely adore your dialogue. I think that attribute of your writing shines through here more than BYIT, because you didn't have to use any space to explain the circumstances. This story had a much narrower focus, and that focus allowed for some extremely sweet and comedic moments between characters (one of my absolute favorites was at the start of Chapter 13, where Sesshomaru hurt her leg and quoted her words about teaching him to dance in exchange for fighting lessons. There's so much to love about that entire section, and there are again so many similar sections that it elevates this story to a whole other level). When it comes to actual writing style, yours is just delightful in all respects. Sometimes I see a story that's so original and ambitious that its impossible to pass by. This is one of those stories, and you didn't disappoint any of my already extremely high expectations that I had coming from BYIT. The thing about Sesshomaru/Kagome stories is that the author has to create a circumstance to bring them together (given that they wouldn't have pretty much any exposure to one another otherwise), and very few of them get creative with that inherent restriction. Both this and BYIT have some of the most fascinating circumstances I've seen on this site, and you have done a phenomenal job turning those strong foundations into even better final stories. The level of quality in this story shows that BYIT was not just some lucky stroke of genius, because both are easily the best stories I've read in this fandom (and probably this site, though it's hard to make a solid judgement). You have some serious talent, and should be extremely proud of what you've accomplished here. The level of depth and nuance to your characters and plot is more than I could ever ask from a fanmade work, and it honestly feels wrong to read something so well made for free. I was feeling pretty terrible and ended up taking a sick day, and while curling up on the couch to read this for 13 hours straight (minus quick breaks for food) was not my original intention, I'm happy things worked out that way. I know it's kind of cheesy to suggest that your writing made some huge difference in somebody's life, but I can vouch for the fact that reading your stories has made me feel a lot better during some pretty unpleasant times. All I can give in return, unfortunately, is a big thank you for your work, but I hope that's enough. Best wishes, ~Tomato |
chibi-inuyasha-girl chapter 29 . 4/28/2021 This was simply one of the best fics I've read. I couldn't stop! I picked up fanfictions after Yashahime re-sparked my joy of fanfictions... And here we are. This was my first dive into a SessKag pairing and I'm a die hard InuKag fan. But I thought "what the heck let's give it a try!" AND I LOVE IT. |
Dreamer chapter 16 . 4/7/2021 Hmm I wonder about how Akemi is tied to it all... this is so well written, by the way! Also, I wonder if we’ll see the girl who had the bucket again? |
