WOW...Toph and Bumi. Now there's a connection that hasn't been explored and you did it beautifully. Awesome job here. I really liked the little trip into Bumi's not-so-crazy brain and his observations about Toph.

This was HILARIOUS! My husband thought i'd lost my mind i was laughing so hard. Your characterization of Bumi and Toph was spot on.

With your permission, I'd like to refer to this as a bit of back story for an upcoming 'episode' (5th or 6th maybe). I was already planning on Toph and Bumi having had an encounter to flashback on, but I wouldn't dare try to write something comparable this, it's already too perfect. I have to say I really enjoyed this story. Toph has always been one of my favourite characters on the show, and the way they meet up here before the fall of Omashu is very plausible. You keep an undercurrent of the feudal relationship between Bumi and his neighbouring southern nobles and work it very well into a meeting that both the Mad Genius and the Blind Bandit would find skull-crushingly boring.

You capture Bumi's wily-ness and eccentricity extremely well, as well as Toph's careful balancing act between quiet dutifulness and wanting to break out to have some fun. Their silent, Earthbending interactions are a joy to read.

I was looking for a good Bumi fic, them being of a rare breed, and finally managed to stumble upon this. Not only was this about Bumi, but it was ALSO about Toph. Both characters also just happen to be my favorite ones in the series. Throughout most of the fic, I had this ridiculous smile on my face with one thing in mind:

Bumi and Toph make an awesome duo.

The greatest two earthbenders alive, who look absolutely nothing alike and both of whom have an utter hatred for rules, meet each other in the most boring of circumstances, and both manage to make the best of it. Great characterization for Bumi; I especially loved the part where you described his big toe moving in circles. Bumi can freaking earthbend with any part of his body. XD The little puppet theater was a great idea, although I honestly expected the two pranksters to slam the other guests into their respective bowls like Toph did to Aang.

I hope that the two will meet in the actual series. Bumi and Toph together in a situation where they aren't restricted by the rules of society would just be utterly crazy.

Great fic, and I hope you continue writing on FFN. Added to my favs. )

Brilliant piece! Perfect characterization and an entertaining and funny story as well. Had me grinning like an idiot for sure. It goes right with the story line and seems as though it could really be a scene from the show. Instant fave :)
