SLIP OF THE BLOODY FINGERS
As I was saying, I adore your Nanaki-centred pieces! He doesn't get a lot of love or spotlight in relation to the other characters (he and Barrett, I believe, are especially ignored amongst authors. Cid, too, perhaps) and so its really great to see you harness his character in various ways. Like this piece here felt sort of dark and bitter even, almost as though Nanaki were fearing for himself as he wrote Cloud off as a mere puppet. "He's the messed up one. I'm still Nanaki." That sort of thing, though in the back of his mind he wonders if he's going to be so different. If he could end up the same way.

Honestly, I adore your Nanaki-centred

This is an amazing piece of work. I really can't think of anything else to say I love it.
| Vladimir the Hamster chapter 1 . 8/14/2009
lmao, glow in the dark Cloud. xD I know his eyes do, but I can just imagine his whole body giving off an eerie green light... dom
I thought it was pretty cool how you touched upon Nanaki's experience as an experiment. The scattered thoughts reflect the feeling of helplessness very well, and how it all comes together at the end. Very cool.

I really like this glimpse into Red XI's head. He's probably one of the mentally stronger characters in the game. So much so that people forget that he went through many of the same alterations as Cloud and Sephiroth.
Plus, the weaving of glimpses throughout is intriguing. Though it makes me feel like this is a little rushed. Perhaps if each were lenghtened slightly?
Thanks for the read!

I think this is very good.
'I remember it all. That is my curse. He remembers nothing. That is his.'
That's good line. So is:
'I am Nanaki, the son of Seto. I will not go mad. I know who I am.'
Nanaki is what I named him in the game. I didn't like Red XI. No one should have to be an experiment. In that game, or in life.

I like it.
Great to see some Nanaki fic, and even greater to see one that deals with his feelings about having been experimented on by Hojo.

... and weird.

Been a while now since i've been around but as usual, it's a pleasure to read your stories, and i really like this one. It's short, but taut and effective. You've really brought out Red's fears and his own burden very effectively. i was actually just playing FFVII and i went through the part where Cloud practically pleaded with Hojo to give him a number and where Red queried Tifa about why she doubted they could go on without Cloud, and you've brought out the whole scenario, the desperation and pathos of it very well.
Red's bits of memories, interspersed between what he's seeing of Cloud, brings out his emotions as well. i think most people overlook the fact that Red was also subjected to Hojo's cruelty as well, and i'm glad to see a fic that touches on it. As a psychological piece, it's great as well. Short and sweet. i also don't really see a lot of really good horror around, and i must say that this is one of the best that i've read, for the skillful way in which you've illustrated Red's deepest fears. It reminds me of another brilliant horror fic i read by Princess Artemis, who is another extremely talented author. It's called "The Ninth Silence". If you like horror, it's definitely worth checking out, i'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed. Great job on your fic, you are truly talented.
(On a lighter note, i still get a chuckle everytime i remember that "splotchy" comment, heh heh)
ANyway, great job once more! )

wow, very deep...
It's true that Nanaki's past as an experiment must affects him a lot more than what he is showing in the game...
The situation of Cloud is kinda paradoxal, because in a way, he has been the only successive "Sephiroth's copy" that Hojo "created" and was the one deemed as a faillure...
And Nanaki's sensibility must not help him see the real Cloud among the Jenova's cells and the concentrated memories in the mako.
It should make him doubt of Cloud's true nature indeed.
In a way, he is afraid of Cloud's state, because he can't help but compare it to his own. Like at the time at Gold Saucer when he was scared to be another of the tatooed black claded men or similare to them.
He is still not sure where he stands, but still has the will to keep himself. This is something that make him different of Cloud who was lying to himself about his own identity in order to preserve his sanity.
Nice story :)

Very nice and surreal. It really fit with that part of the story.

Cloud just completely degenerating like that... is so wonderful and horrible at the same time. Red XI's thoughts and the descriptions - I can't praise you highly enough
| Lady Valtaya chapter 1 . 2/16/2007
"...I think he might glow in the dark."
It's almost funny, but kind of sad too, because Red isn't really wrong about saying that. Cloud's eyes do glow in the dark- even when he is recovered from his latest bout with Mako poisoning...
Red's disjointed thoughts make this a little awkward to read, but it is still a good story, because he isn't exactly himself right now- he's reliving his own painful memories and since we know he has some Jenova cells in him too I'm sure that some of the voices in his head are being stirred up from that direction.
Not to say that Jenova has ever had or will ever get control of Nanaki the way she has proven she can do to Cloud, but I don't think that would stop her from talking to her host organisms- whether it is Red or Cloud or even Vincent I think she retains the ability to tease them with nagging self doubt and stuff...
Good work anyway, though I've always thought that Red liked Cloud a little better than he seems to in here...

Its really good. In such a sad, sad way.
| Rosie chapter 1 . 1/1/2007
Wow, this little oneshot is wonderful. It keeps you guessing tp the end who is the narrator. I love your ending including how all these events are affected Red, the most senseible character in the group.
A very intresting topic and well written peice, well done!
