|Reviews for Tales of Fa'Diel|
| A-Freeze12th chapter 38 . 8/20/2013
I skimmed the story, and well it is a full LOM story, okay now that's rare, like how dragons scales are. Gotta finish reading this, I just gotta. Well even after the first chapter and jumping to the last, I expect that I will not stop reading this when I start. Okay here we go, Read in count down
| Allaynia chapter 38 . 8/19/2013
That ending was amazing. Even if it felt a bit abrupt, I was glad for the Jumi twist for the Elazul/Rei pair in the end. It's so adorable. And from the inferences, I assume that Pearl, Elazul, Rei and Xan all stayed with Rei as she became the new Mana Goddess? Love it, love it, love it. XD
It took 5 years before this story ended, and even if I was silent at times with my reviews, I haven't forgotten it. I stand by my thought that this is still the best Legend of Mana story I've ever read and one of the top 5 fanfictions I've read in my entire 10 years of stalking through .
Thank you for the effort and good job on this beautiful piece of work. IT'S A-MA-ZING
| TheMoonclaw chapter 38 . 8/15/2013
You have no idea how excited I was to find this UPDATED, and FINISHED when I randomly checked in to what I (sadly) consider a mostly dead fandom...(Right after listening to a song from Secret of Mana, I might add...)
This story being concluded made my day...nay, my WEEK! I always fear when stories are left unloved for so long that I will never know how they end, so thank you X100 for finishing it!
I so happy! :)
Well done and thank you for writing something so detailed and amazing, and for finishing it out and seeing it through to the end.
| Traveling Trainer chapter 19 . 8/15/2013
I figured I might as well toss a review your way. The story being finished doesn't matter; this is great. The chapters run at a decent length overall, and the small details (spelling, punctuation, etc) are fairly solid. I can't exactly say I'm an expert on LoM (I've only started my first playthrough recently, and most of my knowledge comes secondhand), but you've done a good job of making the world seem alive while still keeping the Artifacts and such in place, and giving Rei a history beyond the initial game-start adds to that greatly. In fact, the only reason I'm not going to keep reading is mostly because I want to keep doing my own first playthrough without prior knowledge, eheh. Still, once I've finished I'm definitely going to read the rest of this. Well done!
| Athina.na chapter 38 . 8/14/2013
I had to sit down and read all three chapters twice, with a two-day break between each 3-course treat, for it to actually sink in that Rei's story is over and Fa'Diel is not the same anymore.
...I don't know what to say. I'm sitting in front of the keyboard, idle, for 5 minutes and I can't find something to say, when 10 minutes ago my mind was awhirl with thoughts, observations and comments. I have been swept off my feet and I'm in the half-dazed, half-sad state most people are when they finish reading a story they loved.
I don't know how you managed to keep track of the Venstys and the twin's children and relations and not get confused...I bet you made a diagram, didn't you? And, oh, Matilda! She did become a Wisdom and the only ones who know that are those that have finished that arc. It's almost sad.
Those chants, they remind me mostly of children's songs, they bring a smile to my lips and make me want to dance.
...Huh, I guess I found something to comment on.
Anyway, thank you for giving the fanfiction community such a gem and I believe in a couple of years' time I will be back here reading this story once again.
By the by, before I leave you be, apparently when I abandon the ff wagon for a couple of weeks to go MMO, people decide to update my favourite stories and the writer I beta for to send me a chapter to pick apart. Well, what do I say to that? :D (Just a rhetorical question.)
| Reiko x 3 chapter 38 . 8/13/2013
T_T I knew it had to end sometime...but I'm still sad that it's over...
Dark: Not going to stop you from re-reading it a thousand times over.
HELL NO! It's just too good! I'M NEVER GONNA STOP READING IT!
Dark: *rolls eyes* Melodrama...
| Nana-chan21 chapter 35 . 4/7/2013
I've read the whole thing! You're a genius..! You made the characters very well rounded (most especially the hero and the herione) I really love Rei and Xan.. hee hee.. The way you also portrayed the relationships of Rei to all the people she meets is very great! I was a little sad about the Faerie Arc though, in the end Matilda and Irwin still didn't get together, but meh.. The game cannot have too many happy endings I guess.. I actually like the Dragon Arc (is that weird? hee hee!). But what I love the best is the Elazul and Rei fluff! Hahahaha! I wish you'd make more of that.. I'm practically laughing my head off at EVERY quest where Elazul is present, most especially at the Two Pearls quest! The damned, heavy, stone doors against a wounded, tired, grumpy Jumi who had just dealt with a crapload of stairs and suicidal monsters..! (You are very descriptive.. :D) So I was wondering whatever the older brother will do to Elazul once he gets back? Or what would happen from this point as the main arcs are already finished? Please tell me that you're going to finish this.. *wink* *wink* (begs with the cutest expression I can muster) Really.. Try to finish this.. It's a priceless gem of a fic.. I can't make anything out of the ending Square gave us, and ALL of those scenes while the ending song is played.. It drives me nuts.. One last thing.. Just played through the whole thing again (I'm insane once I get to it).. You don't need the sword Elazul will give you if you chose Pearl to accompany you.. The Wimpy Thugling, Pee Wee Birdie, and Seeing Double Quests are dependent on the Mana Levels of the Land in which they take place. Try to place the Sword between Domina and Duma Desert so you won't miss it. Rachel's quest is not dependent on the mana levels as far as I know.. That's all.. AND, really, really, please, please, please finish this.. :D
| Athina.na chapter 35 . 1/12/2013
I love you. And I hate you. For one reason each. You made this. And you haven't finished it.
And I have to say, after having read through the entire thing for the third time I didn't do it out of sheer worship to the series, not the amazing characterization you gave to each person in this game, not the fantastic flowing descriptions, and certainly not beacause there isn't much else sooo good to read in this section of the site and I was bored. ( Note the sarcasm *wink* )
I thought of reviewing every chapter as I went through the story, but somebody's already done that and I don't want to flood your inbox. So prepare for a loong review. *grin*
Point #1 - I love Rei. Mostly because her reactions mirror mine in the majority of the happenings, and I'd bet the Ishe Platinum knives I have my little Ether use in my copy that that applies to most of the people who've played the game. Plus, you're writing my favourite pairing with fluff. That always earns you a nice chocolate and biscuit cake from me.
Next up #2 - The Dragon Arc. I both like and hate this arc (due to a bad guy that shall not be named). Larc is love and Sierra is amazing. You did good work on them. And I like that you actually have them appearing in points outside of their arc. I felt really bad that Larc had to live 1000 or so years down in the Underworld and I actaully let out a whoop when I saw him appearing in the White Forest after everything. *Imagines Rei attempting to teach Larc how to say less cheezy lines, fails to crack up* Now that was a point I Loved. And Sierra creeping Capella out!
Following #3 - The Love Foursome. There was so much grumbling and frustration during this to the point where I was tearing out my hair and really wanting to drop the arc (not that I did, I started it so I wanted to finish it but I was tempted). I loathed Escad in this, so I laughed when the headache he gave me was repaid in the form of Rei giving him an ass whooping. It never felt as satisfying when I and Daena flattened him. And the ending with Matilda and Irwin in the Underworld was confusing still, even with you narrating ( and why didn't Matilda appear as a Wisdom after the arc? Lazy Programmers). At least Selva was there for a breath of fresh air from all the drama - Rei agrees with me with about these four.
After that #4 - Xan, the twins and other characters. My, my when it comes to this part I absolutely adore you. Amazing backstory for the Vensty's (and I saw what you did with the Mana Clan part! Have I said I love crossoves like that? ...actually the entire mana series stories unfold in the same world, just at different time frames so it really isn't a crossover but it ties in amazingly well) and the first time I read this, I wasn't expecting to have both 'main' characters in the same story, so imaging my surpise when He appeared, I squealed and I don't do squealing. :D I kept reading hoping to have more of him!
Now, the part with the twins was exactly what the game didn't show us. Backstage happenings are one of my guilty pleasures. You giving tidbits like Bud's potions disasters and Lisa's herb garden that are praise worthy! The whole apprentice thing just wasn't visible in the game, a bit of a letdown in my opinion.
Now, if I take the entirety of the cast one-by-one and saying something, we'll be here next year, so...Amazing, well-portayed, in-character and given depth. I'm sure nothing else is necessary. (I love Lil' Cactus!)
Continuing #5- The Jumi arc. My favourite arc. I'm in love with Elazul and Pearl. But Rubens was my favourite from the very beginning when I saw him in the first playthrough and I hated Sandra for killing him and Esmeralda while I stood just a few meters away and couldn't do anything! The arc was full of feeling and that is what you took from the game, magnified it and put it in words. I cried when I read Teardrop Crystal, even though I knew well enough what was going to happen, because you managed to do that you have my utmost respect as a writer.
Further more #6 - You gave a reason for Rei to end up where and when she ended up. It was an actual story on that sense and not the random wandering we do most of the time while playing. There was a chain tying everything together. It wasn't unhinged, not fragmented. It was good thinking :) .
And Random (number 8 or 9 on my weirdo-meter) Fact: beleive it or not, the order in which I did every main quest in the game was somewhat the same with the order in which you wrote them. Beginning with the Jumi arc ( The Lost Princess was my very thirst quest!), opening the Foursome arc, getting wrapped in the Dragon arc and finishing it without stopping for anything, continuing the Jumi arc a bit, competing the Irwin-Matilda-Deana-Escad arc 'cause I couldn't stand to have Escad harping me and then going through the rest of the Jewel arc with a heavy heart. Nw this happened before I read Tales!
...It took me an hour to write this, man...Anyway! Hope you managed to read through the entire thing and didn't skip anything, I went through this twice checking for typos! And it's long.
Now I'm just gonna chill and keep waiting like I have for the past 3 or so years(yes, I first read this back when it was just a couple of months after you'd uploaded Teardrop Crystal) and hope I guilt tripped you enough to send up at least a half-butted attempt at a last chapter *grin*.
| Kahran042 chapter 17 . 6/22/2012
"Nobody" liked the dragon arc? Hmm, apparently I don't exist. Cool.
| shadowzerover5 chapter 35 . 5/15/2012
Hello just happened to stumbled onto this little gem while looking for stories and I must say I am quite impressed with the characterization and the flow of the story.
I know you haven't updated in a long time but I'll review just the same. Hope you start writing this again. It is really good.
Till next time,
| Shadow Star chapter 25 . 6/24/2010
Hello! I'm not a member of this site (unfortunately), but I read quite a bit of it's writings. This Legend of Mana one in particular...
Reason why I didn't review before is because I forgot I could review, without being a member of this site. Anyways, I'm going to be reviewing the whole story up to this chapter, to make up for it.
So far, you've done a great job. *attacks Niccolo* BACK YOU EVIL MERCHANT! X3 I love those parts. You really don't like him do you? Or Escad, I suppose, considering what you did to the poor dude. I love your character, Rei. She seems to be a lot like heros are supposed to be in todays day and age.
Question: why a knife fighter? Just curious, as I have personally never enjoyed knives in the game. Much preferred hammers and spears, more-so hammers since I crafted one that could one-shot the Mana Goddess with a single Blammo technique.
Your character interactions with Elazul, Pearl, and the rest of the Jumi makes a lot of sense as I look back. The character just kept growing closer and closer to the Jumi, until... well, you know the rest.
I like how you made it so there was some sort of geas or something that compelled her to do these things. If you really look at it, people generally don't do things like that. It's a really good explanation, and I like how you use her as a member of the mana tribe for storyline purposes. Also, nice job with the insta-heal potions. I always did wonder why you recovered fully after EVERY battle.
You need to update this, if your last update was in December a year ago!
If your stuck on any part of the game (doubtful, if this fanfiction is any indication of your abilities in that game), or if you want someone to help refresh your memory (also doubtful), then just let me know via my email: (yes, this is a pen-name. Don't want to make myself famous!)
Keep writing! It's because of you and this fanfic that I play Legend of Mana again!
| Tiamat42 chapter 35 . 5/12/2010
See, this is the sort of chapter that shows what you're capable of. Elazul's backstory was very well done, the descriptions of the city well-crafted, and the interactions between Rei and Elazul ranging between fun and touching. The game dialogue is hamstringing your talent, let's have more of _this_.
Yes, I keep saying that. Yes, I will keep it up until the end of the story. Yes, you can shoot me now. No, it won't change my mind.
'tis a beautiful chapter, overall. (You're still cheating on combat though. You won't get better if you don't practice! Not to mention, it lessens the impact!)
Rei's time in the Underworld while being turned to stone was enlightening, an opening in her emotional armour. See, this is the difference between your story and the game. In the game, the main character is a shell, simply a vessel to walk around and view the different plots. Next to that, the other characters seem vibrant. But you've made Rei a three-dimensional, interesting person, which dulls the game characters to grey in comparison. Especially when...no, I'll stop harping on that now.
"I smile," the keeper of the Underworld replied happily, "because you are not going to be my problem much longer."
I love Olbohn.
This plot feels nicely wrapped up, I can tell your heart was in it more than the Faerie plot. Or maybe that's just me. Correct me if I'm wrong! Oh, and shoving Elazul into a mud puddle win.
Can't be much of the story left though...not with the main arcs finished. Let's see what you make with the very unsatisfying game ending. :)
You ARE going to finish, right?
(I never knew that about Elazul's sword, in the game. Interesting. Random fact of the day, added to my list! Should I ever decide to play again.)
| Tiamat42 chapter 34 . 5/12/2010
"What Elemental, Moon God, or Power did she tick off to be stuck with two Niccolos at once?"
This...is a scary, scary thought. Move over, Florina, I may have nightmares now.
An interesting thing...this dream sequence never made a lot of sense to me in the game, but reading it in text here it seems to make more sense. That is a first, and gives me a lot to think about.
| Tiamat42 chapter 33 . 5/11/2010
Your descriptions are very nice, you know? You paint good images of the snowfields and monsters, even for minor settings like this one. I wish I had that talent. I tend to get frustrated with physical description and shove it off in a corner someplace, never to be looked at again.
Eeeee, baby dragon! A weak spot of mine! Makes up for more Diddle in this chapter. Honestly, I can't help but think you're getting tired of documenting sidequests? ;) Xan had better LOVE his birthday present.
Rei and Xan are a great couple of siblings, I like their chats, even long-distance chats.
Hehe, strip-mining a dragon's forest, indeed. ;)
I gotta go play D&D now. I'll review the last two when I get back, or tomorrow.
| Tiamat42 chapter 32 . 5/11/2010
Diddle and Capella never really appealed to me either. I tried but...I'm going to have to be honest and admit to skimming this chapter, looking for stuff that involved Rei more. There's such a dichotomy between paragraphs/dialogue from her, and those from the minor characters.
Is that criticism? I guess it is. It's both a compliment and a demonstration of a weakness, I guess. I hope you're not too insulted. :) I think if you really tried to get behind the minds and motivations of the other characters they way you do with Rei and Xan, they would be 200% better. You put in a lot of good work with Bud and Lisa...but Matilda and company...not so much that wasn't already in the game to start with. (just my opinion! I guess I was hoping for some enlightenment on things that bothered me immensely while playing)
Then again, how much is there to get behind with Diddle/Skippy/Hamson, etc?
