would you have imagined that people were going to keep coming back to this story even after 10 years after you wrote it?
it's a masterpiece of kana x pakku and I really appreciate your story the plots, the characters...
thank you for writing this
1WarriorQueen chapter 10 . 7/19/2017
My heart hurts. Bravo! BRAVA! You've shattered it.
This is so beautiful. What a moving magnificent story.

You've breathe life into your characters.
It is everything!

This is not only one of the absolute best ATLA fanfics. It's one of the best fanfic of any fandom. Ever. The way you treated the characters and story was just lovely.

This is CANON. It's so perfect.
Im treating it as canon. Hell, it's better than canon!
The lives that you've captured.
The Nostalgia.
The Love.

Often, we forget old people were young once too. I love seeing GranGran and Pakku when they were young. From ATLA, we know they're strong, stubborn, sarcastic even, I loved you kept those characteristics. I enjoyed seeing how they might have been when they were just kids trying to figure it all out.
Their character developments were spot on. I really felt for poor Pakku. But still rooted so hard for Kanna.

Mike and Bryan couldn't have done better. Actually, they should have taken a lesson from you.

I loved how Pakku loved her. How he understood her. The moment where he knew he couldn't stop her when she left the lodge was just heartbreaking. He knew he was losing her. Oh Pakku.
And I always thought it was ironic too. That Kanna was engaged to Pakku of the NWT and Hakoda is the Chief of the SWT so her husband must have been an important member of the SWTribe too. Glad we thought on the the same wavelength. This is the first fanfic I've read that someone else realized it too.
I also always loved Kanna's bravery and gumptiom of which we can all assume Katara has inherited. Lol. And i loved Kanna's wanderlust here. I love it and I completely sympathize. I want to see the world too. You go girl!

The thing that stuck out oddly, was that their love seem a teeny tiny bit one sided. Just a little. Guess i wanted a bit more romance. (Lol, always do.) Once I finished the whole story, it all made sense but I still wanted to see more of a development/realization on Kanna's part. She waited for him for all those years so we as readers can infer logically that yes, she did love him. I'm guessing she was still confused and coming around to her feelings when she left the NWT. And after the first 3 years when she began missing the snow and ice again, that was also a reference to missing Pakku and all she left behind? I wish you had added an extra sentence there to touch on that. And then I also guess that after all the decades and all that those decades have dealt to her, Kanna also has had plenty of time to think about the choices of her youth and the people she's known and Pakku stuck out. She remembered his promise to her after all and waited for him to follow her, but the romantic fan girl in me wanted just a bit more of a declaration of love or acknowledgment or something on Kanna's side.
But, then again, you wrote so well that I get it. I felt the love Kanna had for her SWT Prince, her joy and her grief. And by the end of it all, I also felt the love she had for Pakku. It didn't matter "when" she might have realized that love, because what mattered was that she had kept and treasured his gifts to her for so many years. His necklace and coat. That was beautifully and masterfully done. And I'm glad that you added the coat into the storyline, she passed the necklace on but kept something else just for herself too.
You're a fabulous writer.

Also, post proposal Kanna felt slightly different then pre proposal Kanna. But towards the end, I can sorta understand, Kanna's shock and suppressed unhappiness just was overwhelming her being. She felt trapped and her misery must have affected her reactions. That's natural.

What's kinda funny to me, is that out of all the smaller characters, the one that I'm most curious about is Mei Li. I can easily guess about the lives and reactions of everyone else in the story but i feel more nostalgia about her. Maybe it's because she's a trusted friend that aided in the escape and has always represented freedom, adventure, and excitement. I wonder if they ever got back in touch again after Kanna left for the SWT? Probably not. So sad.

The saddest thing for me is how Kanna finally found her place in the SWT with her prince and she feels at home again in a land of ice and snow but then to to lose it all again to the Fire Nation. And then to be the oldest person left in a tiny village of children left as a remnant of a once glorious Water Tribe ice city that (only) she can remember. Oh the days gone by. Its no wonder that she had little problem letting Sokka and Katara go off into the world. She knew there was more and the SWT had offered all it could. That last half of the last chapter was emotional. From the unhappiness, freedom, love, war, death, peace, and finally the hope at the very end. Well done.

I found you by way of Zutara fics (and I'm so glad I did, you are a gem). I hope one day you write more in the ATLA-verse even though its been so long. I would love to see something of a "Shattering Ice" sequel meets Zutara. Seeing Pakku and Kanna react to Zuko and Katara's love story would be all of my fan girl dreams come true.
There's something about a young Pakku that reminds me of Zuko! ROFL. I can't be the only one who sees it, right?! Arrogant, extremely focused, and socially adorkable. LOL.
Or any drabbles related to 'Shattering Ice.'

I'm slightly curious about those 2 deleted scenes. But this story is so perfect the way it is already. I don't know. Lol. It's a story about Kanna with a lean more towards Pakku so her SWT husband would just be an side oc here. Awww he seems like a really great guy and I'm sure we would have loved him. The few references to him already has me liking him.

You're an amazing storyteller. You have such a way with imagery. You create a world of your own. I can tell you write from the heart. It makes it easy for me as a reader to picture the scenes and visualize the characters' lives.
I can tell, this will be a story I come back to re-read in years to come.
Again, your characters are captivating. The story was believable. And everything flowed as fluently as the canals of the Water Tribes.
So many kudos sent your way!

OMG I cried at least twice while reading this! What an incredible and well-written story! And I'm blown away that I was sucked so deep into the lives of two characters that people generally don't look at too closely. Great job!
PhoenixFlame121 chapter 1 . 1/1/2013
fantastic story so far! I love the arrogance in paku, and kana I imagine her to be very headstrong and independant, same as katara is now :) great job, actually all your stories are very well written

inactiveMLD chapter 10 . 7/13/2012
wow.
This story is fantastic! I love the characterisations you have of Kanna and Pakku, as well as the whole plot of the story, and I have to say, the ending is perfect :) Big kudos for this awesome story.
torchide chapter 10 . 6/1/2012
Alright, I cried. I always had some fantasy that Hakoda was really Pakku's child and that Kanna ran away pregnant, and that funny business happened just before she ran away. This cleared up so many things for me and the way you put it all together made wonderful sense. Your OCs helped tie the story together nicely and really developed Pakku as a young man instead of the flat, rigid waterbending master he was in Aang's time. Lots of little contributing factors to Kanna's and Pakku's present relationship were implied here and I absolutely love it.
SiberianCheesecake chapter 10 . 5/11/2012
