After that disclaimer I was expecting something like Hermione dying to the Troll or some weird plot contrivance that kills immersion.

I think Remus's new job and guardianship of Harry has gone to his head. I know Harry has BIG SECRETS and has got caught letting the cat out of the bag a few times, but Remus is interrogating him like he's a secret death eater in training! He acts like his friends' kid is bad news and also Harry is being held to higher standards than the Marauder's ever were. Remus is treating Sirius like he's Harry's brother instead of Harry's Godfather and co-guardian. Remus may feel angry and guilty about how Harry was raised, but he's treating a supposed abused child (only a few months out of that situation) with anger and showing him he's as trusted as he was while with the Dursleys. IMHO.

It's 'conniption fit' meaning 'a fit of rage or hysterics'. You just spelled it wrong. It's in the dictionary.
