Reviews for What If the world turned its head sideways
Quacked Lurker chapter 38 . 8/25/2020
Lewis C. as a Wizard ... yep. Can see it.
to be honest, there's probably not a lot of crossover between Wizarding text and Muggle fiction - sure, some authors (like Carrol) are in BOTH, but Harry's assumption the children's books he's read (remembers) wouldn't be known by Wizards is a fair guess.
Not accurate in this case.

Heh.
OF COURSE Hermonie would want the BOOK Bletcher gets his info about house-elves from.
(part of it could be, he's quoting how Magical households are supposed to SUPPORT them).
but not accepting the older student's spoken KNOWLEDGE of the subject? (he's not a teacher, nor an adult, and bias works both ways).

I rather liked the old password (EMC2) for the prankster's hideaway.
But I do know why they'd like to change it - and have control over it.
Cause the original one (as far as the Weasley Twins are aware) is muggle phrase/physics. Not the easiest to remember.

NICE.

So, Harry can SEE differences between various house-elves and goblins ... but getting an education that others either don't NOTICE, or simply don't CARE to learn.
Quacked Lurker chapter 37 . 8/25/2020
Some of the written questioned are answered.
Others are raised.
but several have been overlooked.
NOTHING is satisfactory for the second-year student.

(Honestly Headmaster, you have NO IDEA WHY Harry is the first Potter in Slytherin? - he's trying to SURVIVE! failing that, make things better for those younger than him.)

Heh.
Professor Snape is off to test some Blood-wards.
(not that Harry will why it's a failure of the protection if the ONLY teacher who looks out for him constantly, manages to step foot in the house.)

I do like the idea of the entire house backing Potter when it comes to GETTING BETTER GUARDIANS!
yes, many of them are offering information on wizarding custody laws - by helping him figure out the legalise - where as others are going to actively press charges or demand PROOF that what they know about Harry's home life is ACCURATE.
Testimony from the kids - what they overheard him say - is valuable yet often inadmissible ... even with truth-spells, truth-serums, and memory-viewing devices.

(It's easy to categorize Dumbledoor as an evil manipulator. It's almost as easy (lazy) to decide he's crazy-unhinged. to remember he's HUMAN and fought in a WAR (or three) where he KNEW friends, and entire families were going to DIE because of choices made on the battlefield - now, that's hard.
Thank you for helping us readers get a better look at his character - one, where he fails, can ADMIT he was wrong, and then, change his decisions/behavior towards "kids" and the very young.
Besides, being at least one century - approaching the end of his second - means he's forgotten what it means to be a CHILD! (and that culture changes in the meantime. What he grew up - what society did for orphans and widows with babies - is NOT what Harry's facing now.
Quacked Lurker chapter 36 . 8/25/2020
Nice.
The Four Heads of Houses are in agreement: do NOT let Headmaster Albus Dumbldor talk to one BWL Harry Potter ALONE!

Granted, that does make it feel - to the rightfully paranoid and frequently-disappointed/proved right Slytherins - that it IS a Conspiracy to AVOID answering questions.
BUT, as in-school guardian, Professor Snape won't let outside harm come to his charges, its for the best.

LOVE how Harry calls out the Headmaster with this (not 100% accurate) quote:
"There are no rules against cross-house study groups - but do be aware that there are those who would not be happy to see this cooperation continue." / "I would ahve figured that if anyone was going to prevent it, they'd have stormed over here to do so already, wouldn't they have? Sir."
LOVE it.
Best part - Harry doesn't Realize it. Older Slytherins do notice the bind the Headmaster is in - and they appreciate the opportunity to see someone who SAYS they care for all but doesn't lead by example in such a bind.

Granger - a horder of knowledge.
That's almost worse than being a know-it-all.
Preventing Others from getting the important information needed.
BUT it is how a book-loving teenager might respond when she thinks a rare book might be destroyed by unscrupulous individuals.
It's not like she KNEW the other students were looking for the info to PROTECT themselves instead of erasing or destroying vital evidence.

Fred and George are SAFE/security blanket for Harry?
Anybody else touches him unexpectedly, and he flinches? - but the twins, and it's SAFE?!
(even when he's surrounded by older, wiser, pragmatic Slytherins - who are trying to help protect - but the pranksters are accepted into the little circle? N ICE!)
I knew they made an impression on their 'triplet' but not that big of one!
Quacked Lurker chapter 35 . 8/25/2020
Wait.
does Professor Snape still have the Marauder's Map?
(well, if he gave it back to Potter, I glossed over that bit).

Flint (and the others) are "helping" Harry with his extra-curriculim assignments - by giving him MORE in-term goals?
Well, since he has harped (a little) on how Slytherins need to learn about Muggles themselves before deciding all non-magicals are worthless, and that they "should try to rise above what other people think of them" it stands to reason that if there is a study-group with ALL four houses, it should originate with him.
yes, the other Slytherins will benefit from this - the biggest draw they are helping him without more 'trades' and information barters.

Charlie Weasly, a CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURES teacher and not a DADA professor.
well, it fits.
LOVE his expounding on Dragons - and his flat refusal to NOT SHARE knowledge just because 'it might be classified' or considered heretic simply because the MoM cannot agree if wild dragons have more 'species' than the ten known varieties in various Dragon Preserves.
He's trying - but like he admitted, if the only thing "dangerous" he is qualified to talk about is how deadly dragons are, then he will focus on them. Trying to work spells in that might slow them down or disable is part of the curriculum.

Bill Weasley, an interm Defense Teacher ... well, at least next year's DADA professor will have some solid ground to build on.

Lockhart ran away - the fool!
what a discredit to his name! (he's LOOSE with obliviations right and left! - not good).

Heh.
Hindsight is 2020.
NOW they remember about Roosters crow being deadly to basilisks.
moot point now ...
but if they ever encounter one in the future, perhaps they'll remember in time to save themselves.
(besides, all the unknowns Weasley was mentioning during the death-throws and spasms means a live rooster - not transfigured - might not have been any easier or safer to use underground.
Quacked Lurker chapter 34 . 8/25/2020
LOVE, Love, love it!

Harry not only gets some answers to his questions - or, a promise to them - BUT he's got WITNESSES to how Dumbledore treats HIM!

Sounds like the Headmaster has drunk the coolaid.
rather, he's INSISTING the Wizrding world gets DRUNK off the koolaid.

while Harry Potter is adamant that his life at "home" is NOT ideal, nor safe. forget loving, and kind.
Good think he maintained eye contact while thinking loudly of his treatment at the Dursleys - particularly the first-letter from Hogwarts and his first-report card.
Granted, he was concentrating on those memories because he was trying to Gird Himself up, refusing to falter or waver in his determination to GET HIS POINT ACROSS!

I think Severus Snape has proven himself a better Head-of-house than Minverva ... could be my bias TOWARDS a well-written Professor Snape. (he feels a lot more human than most of the adults ever did).
Love how he's modified his approach when dealing with a RAVEN-CLAW hidding in shed snake-skins ... by holding onto the lecture that's threatening to burst out until it won't escape by screams, shouts, or yells.
(if it means he hisses the first one to the walls, and then can calmly repeat it a second time where Harry can hear it, so be it.)

Wait, what?
Bill and Charlie were the RECORD holders for hospital visits during THEIR seven years?
AWESOME!

By the skin of his teeth, Harry has avoided being memory charmed A SECOND TIME!
he might have broken it a third time ... then again, it's Potter. Of course he would have. Just taken longer.

Good - the 'well-meaning' interference has BEEN REMOVED! or at least, postponed until after the first overview-investigation of this particular orphan's home life.

And it appears that the Headmaster might have learned to NOT assume things when it comes to reports from the least-favored house.
Or not. at his age, senility has probably crept in and sort-term memory shot/day-to-day stuff in the present is hazier than events from years and decades ago.

(hmm.
Snape was RAT-HUNTING, but no further mention of Pettigrew ... so, wormtail escaped for the time being).
Quacked Lurker chapter 33 . 8/25/2020
KUDOS!

LOVE how this one event - meeting the twins BEFORE anyone else (especially Draco Malfoy), has changed SO MUCH!
True, it's little differences at first, but they are becoming bigger and bigger changes.
'Course, some events cannot, willnot change.
Such as Harry Potter being called out as Slytherin's Heir!

Other situations and scenes have been altered - how Professor Snape treats Harry Potter both inside and outside the classroom. He's more willing to LISTEN and answer questions, but is still rather final and snarky in his responses.
When he chooses to say anything.

Am enjoying the fact that THIS Harry Potter has made some inroads in the Slytherin house - but isn't in control of it, nor is considered 'all-powerful' due to his name. (or given unbeatable powers).
It's hard work, an intelligence/street Smarts that is NOT ignored, a willingness to ASK when he doesn't know or understand, a determination to not GO BACK, and a little bit of luck.

Heh.
Snape is helping Harry catalogue and recall stuff - couple chapters ago when Potter mentioned something about Ginny looking EXHAUSTED, and then, maintaining eye-contact, remembers EVERY INSTANT (or near enough) of his impressions of her throughout the year.

VERY nicely done.
Love the premise.
Enjoying the story.

Thank you for writing & sharing this fabulous work with us.

gginsc chapter 46 . 7/20/2020
As it has been nearly 12 years, I don't suppose I'll see the end of this story. Pity, I have enjoyed the smarter Harry Potter.

Disney's Slytherin Princess chapter 11 . 4/28/2020
There are some continuity errors in this chapter. Harry already knows who the Marauders are so wouldn't need to be newly introduced to the concept.
DittoVonDegurechaff chapter 19 . 4/28/2020
Nah it’s normal for Harry not to get it. I would have got it at that age(2 years ago) but my brother is 12 and definitely wouldn’t
