This is lovely. I truly love your lyric way with words, and you definitely got the emotions just right. This is how Mal and Inara's son would be, stubborn and determined to fight for something he believes in. Mal being just as stubborn and just as determined and Inara trying to make peace-they're older, but they haven't really changed.
And this line: "Half his life he’s been giving orders; requests are treacherous ground for him now." really struck me: that's Mal.

Really very nice. I generally don't enjoy "future generation" stories, but this feels very natural. I like the slow, easy style of it, and the rainstorm is a great choice of backdrop. (I'm curious why they are living on Persephone, though.) Keep it up!
