i dont mean to sound pushy or anything, but even working a ten hour job and stuff, isnt an entire year enough time to post at least on chapter? -scratches head in confusion-
sorry bout your friend, in curious but i wont ask what happened between the two of ya. None of my business!
I hope the next chapter is up before christmas eve. I read so much i have a tendency to file away stories i read in my head and forget about them to make room for more present stories.

| missgsmith51 chapter 13 . 11/17/2013
Well, that was an interesting turn of events.
| missgsmith51 chapter 12 . 11/17/2013
"Because Severus had called him Potter." What's in a name? For Harry, everything. In his eyes, the people in his life who believed him worthless called him "Boy," in an effort to strip him of dignity and identity. Many who called him "Potter" frequently used it as an epithet of hatred and disgust (Malfoy Jr. and Sr., Filch, the Snape of his first year). Only those who seemed to like him ever called him Harry. It reminds me of Jim Croce's old song, "I've Got a Name."
"... it could only be Severus who had changed." But even if he accepts this truth, WILL it change anything?

I don't understand why Harry doesn't just tell Snape what's bothering him.
I think Harry needs a vacuuming spell for his trunk! I don't understand why he doesn't organize it properly now, when he has time. Snape would probably even give him a good layout plan, if he asked, for a more efficient way to put things together. Dummy!
I'm curious about all of these unauthorized portkeys Snape makes. Doesn't Fudge get all worked up over Dumbledore making a couple without Ministry permission? Or did that only become a problem in Harry's fifth year ... due to Ministry strangleholds on everything?
I've never understood why Harry and Ron didn't just sit and wait for Mr. and Mrs. Weasley to come back through the barrier, which they would have done in 5 minutes or less. Snape's ire in your version of the story will make more sense, as he will truly be worried about Harry.

The potion sounds interesting ... and dangerous.
Snape is being incredibly decent to Harry, and he is offering some great assistance on his summer work. Harry should grab at it. He has to do the work anyway; why not take all help offered?
While I can sympathize with Harry about memorizing dates in history (I agree that part is hard), Snape did give him some valuable advice. I have always been better at getting events in order and understanding how they relate to or trigger - or are triggered by - other events. Another thing that helped me was learning to see the relationships between a culture's literature, art, and music and the big events happening at that time. While I cannot be positive, I would assume that certain Wizard stories and possibly their poetry and song of the time could have been influenced by the social upheaval of their wars and rebellions. At the very least, the whole Wizarding banking system is under Goblin control. Who isn't interested in money, to some degree?
| missgsmith51 chapter 9 . 11/17/2013
Snape seems more frequently amused than irritated by Harry these days, which I find interesting. I'm surprised he offered up information about Lucius and even more surprised that he answered Harry's rather prying question about why he took so long to return. It's all very un-Snape-like, isn't it?
| missgsmith51 chapter 8 . 11/17/2013
I think the Lockhart nonsense probably helped settle how much Harry hates being the center of attention, removing the "you're just like your attention-seeking father" shot from Snape's arsenal. Actually, I think Snape's attitudes have undergone a pretty severe adjustment, making it that much more difficult for Harry when Snape must resume his "Harry Hating" persona back at school.
Hiding his feelings has become a way of life for Snape, and his position as a spy during the war allowed him to pursue and perfect it, effectively cutting most people he would want to call friend out of his life. Harry, on the other hand, wears his heart on his sleeve, and it's there for anyone to take ... or break.
| missgsmith51 chapter 7 . 11/16/2013
It's odd that Harry said he didn't know tree were people who were as cheery and happy as the Hansons. I wonder why Snape looked at him.
| missgsmith51 chapter 6 . 11/16/2013
This change in Snape seems sudden - too sudden. I suppose the way to account for it is that Snape was in shock, completely rattled by seeing all of his cherished notions about Harry's life crumble, one at a time. What really put him over the top, though, was the way Petunia had spoken of Lily ... his best friend ... the one woman he had loved. And seeing how she treated the child for whom Lily had sacrificed everything enraged him.
It's as though his carefully crafted facade cracked ... and Harry managed to get inside. Now, will he let him stay, or will he push him back out?
| missgsmith51 chapter 5 . 11/16/2013
Wow, Snape was certainly forthcoming. His Occlumency shields must be low for him to be so transparent, and with Harry, of all people. Now, for the 64,000 galleon question: Will Snape be his old Snape-ish self the next time he talks to Harry?
