|Reviews for Ranma's Heart|
| akibara chapter 1 . 10/28/2011
what a hilariously out of character mom,
Nodoka was willing to kill Ranma for crossdressing,
The fact of the matter is if you're letting
Ranma run with honesty and clarity hes never had
with the fiancees, then you're singling them out.
A Ranma this clairvoyant about how to put into
words the way people make him feel would have
the confidence to utterly destroy Nodoka and her
'love' for Ranma. It's utterly clear Nodoka is
as psychopathic as Genma. Which makes the bashing
of Ukyou Shampoo and Kodachi seem terribly out of place.
| anthony883 chapter 1 . 2/14/2011
Nice one shot story. Talk about letting everyone get shot in the heart at once. Ukyo needed that sucker punch to the ego.
| Ganheim chapter 1 . 11/5/2009
[Interrogative missing its question mark]
Ranma blinked. “She does?”
[If this is 2 years after the manga like you mentioned, there should be no surprise here. Or little surprise, anyway]
“When she laughs? It’s like banshees belching while gargling peanut butter,”
[Well, I’ve never heard it put quite that way, but it remains her most defining characteristic in my perception]
Kodachi left, vanishing in a swirl of black rose petals.
[I’d think she’d lack the energy to do this, maybe she’d just pace away and disappear if she’s just going to yield like this instead of self-deluding herself]
Ranma sneered and rolled her eyes. “Ugh, her,” she said, “That psychopath.”
[OOC: Shampoo unnerves him, she doesn’t make him retch like he drank poison. She’s also displayed as much (sometimes more) self-control than Ukyo and more than Kodachi, which makes ‘psychopath’ seem inappropriate given the gamut of other more fitting monikers that could be applied]
It’s a trait common to the three that can actually fight.”
[Wait, is this saying that Shampoo can’t fight? That doesn’t seem consistent with canon. If she wasn’t _significantly_ better than Akane she never would’ve had the chance to use the Xi Fang Gao]
Shampoo is WAY too ready to kill.
[Yes, that explains why the entire Fiancee Brigade is still alive despite numerous times when she’s had easy opportunity to kill them /sarcasm]
I wasn’t challenging her for her hand,
[Well, during that Reverse Jewel arc…though that’s due to Ranma’s ego and stupidity more than Shampoo’s]
he’s actually a more powerful fighter than she is!”
[He’s more potentially lethal, that’s for sure. Why it is that Shampoo never displayed more tricks of Hidden Weapons, beyond that being Mousse’s shtick, is beyond me]
She’s almost as bad with the poisons and hypnotic charms as Kodachi.
[If by ‘almost as bad’ you mean ‘she used a drug once (kirihashi mushrooms) and magic items twice’ then yes. Akane’s not without her magic charm (“allowing” the love charm knowing what it does, even if it’s orchestrated by their parents, is no better) use either]
all she does is try to take advantage of me and drag me off somewhere.
[Is this the same one as the Ukyo in the manga? Or anime? Both have sat there and simply listened to Ranma (also providing him free food) a number of occasions]
she still considered the okonomyaki chef a friend. “Will you be okay?”
To Ukyo’s own surprise, she actually managed a smile. “Eventually… I just… need to think about some things…”
[Although this reflects on growth between both, the friendship between Ukyo and Akane broke down due to Ranma. By the end of the manga they tolerated each other, but I wouldn’t say they were any more than acquaintances]
Akane’s one of the few who can keep up with me in an insult contest for more than a few minutes before attacking me.”
[When has she ever not just attacked him after less than a minute of verbal abuse?]
“That’s more annoying than painful.
[So Shampoo’s bike, Kodachi’s laugh, and Ukyo’s tendency to slap/spatula Ranma when he embarrases her are serious crimes but getting sent Air Akane is an inconvenience?]
I mostly just say the uncute thing to get her mad.
[Really? It seemed pretty consistently to follow behavior from Akane that he didn’t like (such as when she jumps to conclusions). He calls her cute when she smiles or when she doesn’t jump to conclusions]
I’ve always had the easiest time talking to her out of anyone else in the Tendo family.
[Yes, I’m sure “I’m engaged to my worst nightmare” is the kind of thing to build love and affection, and I’ll bet that mallet is a great conversation piece]
she’s even put aside her own feelings to stick up for the other fiancées when they’ve been in trouble.
[Sometimes, though Ukyo’s done the same thing once or twice if I recall correctly, and Akane’s also been at least as vindictive as the others]
Ranma… I… Why didn’t you ever tell me this?”
[He did, more than once by the end of the manga]
My rivalry with your son will be a friendly one from now on.
[I wouldn’t call them fast friends, but hasn’t this been going on since Ryouga learned the Shi Shi Houkoudan?]
The brain damage actually cured my sense of direction, too!”
[That’s almost as funny as Shampoo ’s “The echolocation confuses my sense of misdirection”, which is not easy to match]
Mousse shrugged. “It is the way of our people.”
[An interesting take to a calm Mousse. If it wasn’t for all of the character bashing and brick-fisted (this isn’t even ham-fisted) Akane favouritism I’d have liked it]
A wicked grin came to Nodoka’s face. “And Mousse, if you do the fish thing, I want a recording of the whole thing!”
[Okay, that’s slightly funny]
And if nothing else, it’ll spare you a night of dealing with Soun and Genma sobbing for joy, getting drunk, sparring for no apparent reason, and then throwing up. Not necessarily in that order.”
The idea’s been around for a while, and while it was nice to see it done with minimal technical flaws and I thought most of the male characters were given a light-hearted handling, Ranma and every single fiancée (Akane the least but her still included) were all bashed. Akane is stubborn, impulsive, lacks self-confidence, and doesn’t trust Ranma – the fact that he still loves her despite these fairly serious character flaws and that they’re both trying to work on them is one of the things that makes the characters human, and your trying to ignore those only cheapen them. I used to like Akane, before I repeatedly stumbled across stories that tried to deify her when she’s as human as the rest of the cast. It’s not those flaws that strictly condemn her, it’s the fact that the characters say “I’m not going to let those things keep us apart, and we’re going to work through it” that give legitimacy to the relationship.
As I’ve said in other reviews, demonizing the other fiancées doesn’t just reduce them unfairly, it also makes Ranma look like a barbaric moron because he doesn’t have the sense to send those “demonic women” packing so he can stick with his “loving level-headed” fiancée. The conflict is something that adds humanity to the characters and taking the humanity from one of them reduces all of them. The reason I don’t like character bashing isn’t because I’m a particular fan, it’s because it bashes the series too. I held hopes that this story could’ve been good, but alas the character bashing tore things down too far for a couple one-liners to fix.

Well I had high hopes for this but there was a large amount of redundant drama during the middle of the story which to me failed to serve a purpose as in the canon he admitted that Shampoo was a pest and Ukyo was just a friend but you didn't have to go in there and just say that which we already know, but you are a lot more blunt with Ranma and don't have him being indecisive all the time which I must commend you for as many fics I have read have Ranma getting nearly into a good relationship with someone only to ruin it with indecisiveness, while it adds to the story length it just gets boring to read, which is why I hate Rumiko Takahashi and how she draws out her manga, with her manga's getting longer (Maison Ikkoku-15, Urusei Yatsura-34, Ranma-38 and the monster called Inuyasha-56) I shudder to think of her next work which may break the magical 100... Well to sum it all up I'd give it an 8.
P.S. I actually hate Akane, I hope the B! #$ burns in hell.

Wow,not a bad story!Probably if Nodoka had brought this up earlier,Ranma would not have to go through this fiancee thing much sooner!

My only complaint is that you need to change the 'pairing note' in the story flags. I thought this story might be something interesting, but it was just yet another Ranma/Akane story. There's nothing wrong with the story itself; your grammar and style of writing is good. I'm just not interested in stories with this pairing.

i loved shampoo's list!
| Rose1948 chapter 1 . 9/9/2007
“I say we strip him naked, give him a fish enema, put him in a bra and throw him in a ladies bath at the busiest time of day!”
“And Mousse, if you do the fish thing, I want a recording of the whole thing!”
I finally got to read the first 8 volumes of Ranma 1/2. Before that, it was all fanfic. Honest. *chuckles*
Thanks for sharing a wonderful little story.

Nice. I liked how you mentioned Akane's good qualities (her best qualities in fact) while also being realistic about her, and the other girls' bad qualities.
Alot of people paint Akane as a selfish demon, while latantly ignoring (or being ignorant of) the fact that she has willingly sacrificed herself for Ranma's well being. The other girls may be willing to risk their lives for him, but none of them have actually put themselves in a situation where they expected to die, just for his sagety, nevermind sacrificing all their own plans for the future just to accomodate him.
Akane has at least two such incidences of the former, and one of the latter.
The first t is when they were fighting Pink and Link in the jungle of poisonous plants. Akane gave Ranma the last of the special antidote tags that Cologne made for them when she noticed they were both about to be poisoned. She had no way of knowing Ranma would get the antidote for her in time and even her last thoughts were "... at least Ranma will make it", meaning she expected to die. Even more incredible is that she was in the jungle trying to help Ranma save Shampoo, a girl who would have gladly let her die. Shampoo meanwhile, had actually escaped, but stayed and beat Pink and Link into pretending that they still held her prisoner just so she could get Ranma to rescue her to try and win him (her stunt backfired and she got captured by them again).
The second case happened during the fight with Saffron. Even after being reduced to the state of a mere doll after magicaly having the moisture drawn from her body, which was slowly killing her, she still sub/unconciously helped Ranma win the fight against Saffron by placing herself in the way of Saffron's mountain destroying fire blasts (she had no way of knowing that the blasts wouldn't affect her due to her transformed state).
Finally, when Ranma lost his strength, Shampoo and Cologne's primary concern was getting his strength back so that Shampoo wouldn't be married to a weakling. Ukyou's primary concern (as you pointed out) was getting Ranma to run away with her since his being weak didn't affect her plans for the future in the slightest (she even tried to convince him to give up on getting his strength back).
When it seemed his strength would be gone forever after the moxibustion chart was destroyed, Akane was going to give up school, give up the comfort of her home and family, basically give up her promising future, just to accompany Ranma on his journey to keep him safe since he no longer had his strength to protect himself.
She may be a pain in the ass, but she is every bit as loyal as Ranma himself is. And compassionate to the point of almost being ridiculous (as long as the person she is being compassionate to doesn't do something to piss her off). Her two sole redeeming features.
| tigerdreams chapter 1 . 9/8/2007
That really was rather adorable. Ranma definitely needed some outside intervention if he was ever going to resolve his "relationship issues." I especially liked Mousse poking the catatonic Kuno with a stick, and “All men hate the hammer, dear.” Well done! )
| goku90504 chapter 1 . 9/7/2007
i firmly belive ranma really finds akane uncute when she's calling him pervert and hitting him or forceing him to eat her cooking it's not so much a matter of looks for ranma as it is attitude think about when he calls her cute and un cute she's cute when she's being nice and smileing un cute when she's being stuborn i'll give you ranma having been in love with her from day one but i would think that his love would be waneing with all the abuse (not dead yet just akane would have alot of ground to make up if she wanted happly ever after) also i would think ranma would think of ukyo like a brother (remember he thought of her as a boy untill he opened her shirt) a brother he's disapointed in but family none the less as for shampoo being to quick to kill she's made threats but she hasnt actally killed anyone what makes ryouga any better than her then?
| Talent Scout chapter 1 . 9/7/2007
Very nice, no spelling errors, no glaring grammar errors ands a good story pity it's a one shot though I'd like to see the aftermath that this talk had or at least an epilogue chapter about what happened after other than that a great story.
| MissingExodus chapter 1 . 9/7/2007
I think that this was actually a fairly good assessment of the whole fiance thing. Very good. Props.
