Snape has given up more than Dumbledore ever did-the Headmaster has had years of joy behind him, with only a few interruptions. Snape has never had anything _but_ war, whether at home, being tormented by the Marauders, or later on. Yet Dumbledore is adored and Snape barely tolerated, if that. Yippee. {sarcasm}

It's up to us to do better by him that a Certain Person has.

He *allowed* Aberforth to throw Snape out. Why didn't he ask him to stay, with the pretext of discussing job openings, since apparently even Sybill knew that Snape was interested in a Hogwarts job? Then he could have decided at leisure whether there was a danger of the prophecy reaching Voldemort?
