Yeah - I genuinely regret picking up this story even if it was well-written (referring to grammar and characterisation of non OC characters)

Kath Everett is a fetishising, stalkery, rude, and overbearing piece of shit that shouldn’t have ever received an apology. You don’t need to normalise that kind of terrible behaviour.

I could definitely be wrong, but the vibes I get from this story make me think that non-queer people wrote this because a lot of aspects of Everett’s behaviour remind me of all the incredibly rude and nosy straight people I’ve ever had the displeasure of talking to - and the fact that this story somehow manages to normalise her troglodytic idiocy genuinely makes me want to scream.

As a gay man myself, I’m hoping desperately that this was written by an incredibly ignorant pair of Queer authors who had no intentions of normalising horrible behaviour I often see straight people do towards gay couples. I say this because I can’t shake the vomit-inducing feeling that Kath was the obnoxious self-insert from one of those “OMG I really want a gay best friend!” straight folks that always justify their sick fetishising behaviour by hiding it behind a twisted mockery of ally-ship.

I can’t bloody believe that the authors had the opportunity to go through their fic more than 10 years after initially publishing it without noticing how damaging the normalisation of such behaviour is to the LGBTIA community. The irony of this story being centred around a gay couple also doesn’t help.

Kathy reminds me of those obnoxious two-faced straight girls that would act creepy and obsessive over gay guys who wanted nothing to do with her.

Speaking from experience. You’d think I’d be over it by now seeing as it’s been several years, but holy shit does this fic bring back some deep-seated traumatic anger with her characterisation.

Omigod I just finished reading this and it is AMAZING. This is just so well done and I just can'ttttttt. The characters are hardly ever OOC, and it's nice seeing the two differences between Phoenix and Miles. You can also see what one person thinks of the other and how the other person actually behaves. I can't put into words how well done this is. I'm definitely gonna show my sister this (she's the one who got me into the AA fandom).
