| Fine Fall chapter 8 . 2/17
This is shiny, is what it is. It, and all the rest of this story, has reminded me what fanfics are for. It's been a wonderful read, and I know there are the very slightest chance this will ever be continued, I have no hope whatsoever, in the sense that it ended on a good note, and would only need continuing if you somehow found it, with a need to write more. I'm not even sure if you've changed your email adress or your still somehow in the community. I see it's been around 6 years since you last updated it. I just want to congratulate you on this masterpiece of a story, and show my gratitude for having the chance to read it. I only saw "Firefly" a week ago, and watched the movie right after the last episode, and found it somewhat lacking. So this was my first firefly fanfic, and it was epic in every way.
I hope everything is well, and things sorted out that made the updates on this far between at the end of its journey. So yeah.. thanks :-)

This whole series has been me so glowingly happy this last few days during a bad week - thank you for this gift of looking to the heart of things, and well-crafted rhythms in which those insights have been woven. Well done, and beautifully.

I really enjoyed the formal love gift giving scene!
| Guest chapter 7 . 11/1/2013
I really, really enjoyed the dream that River had with the life paths. It totally makes sense!

What story is that that you reference with the Rangers (or did you just make up some awesome shit for the sake of your even-more-amazing series)? My curiosity is piqued... Also, I highly appreciate that you make no distracting spelling or grammar errors. Being a teacher raised by a "grammar nazi", I find these things irritating. Oh dear, I'm starting to write in Riverspeak, best put down the Ithingy now 8)
| Ryvaken Lucius Tadrya chapter 8 . 8/21/2013
Ehhhhh. Jayne bounces too easily between redemption and casual thug for this to be terribly satisfying as a conclusion. I really like where you've taken the story, but I've never been one for open endings like this. Too many maybes for me.

Love it! Hope you finish it someday.

Since you have not replied to my comments, I must believe that you are either dead, incapacitated or have removed yourself from this fandom. I do hope that neither of the first two have happened to you. Perhaps your husband's visa problems reasserted themselves and you had to move to lower slobbovia where there is no internet.
At any rate, since this is not marked complete, I suspect you had more in mind to post here. But since you did not or could not, it ended in a very good spot. I have enjoyed reading all your stories, and I shall mark this as one of my favorites as I have done for the entire Horseshoe Nail Series. Well done.
If you are alive and reading this, all my best to you. Live well. Hope you found your own stone/turtle.

I read this all today. It's 9pm ET and I started at 6am and read it all stopped only when my phone died to charge it.
I'm new to the Firefly world and found that my heart was wretched by the sad lonely way River watched Kaylee and Simon from above at the end of the BDM.
So curious,an outsider looking in on something her heart tells her she'll never find, desperately envious and so completely alone.
That same heart soared at the single word "anchored."
River's childhood and innocence were stolen and all she was left with was a damaged mind that had to be painfully put back together.
No one cut into my brain, but my childhood and innocence were stolen and I was left with a damaged mind that I'm still rebuilding.
I found my stone, my personal anchor that keeps me from flying into bits at the wrong emotion or a seemingly knowing look from a stranger.
Thank you for helping River find hers.

"He walked proudly with virtue beside him, because he knew he didn't merit it. Knows he's bad, doesn't deserve soft words spoken on him." This is one of those quotes that you have peppered throughout this series. It is one that brought tears to my eyes when read in context. The way you have River express how she views Jayne, and like wise how he views himself is one of the greatest things you have done with this series. I applaude you for your efforts in brining about this tale. If there was one thing I would change however, and mind you its not any thing major, it would be that Zoe had very few interactions with Jayne. Not just in this paticluar story but in the series as a whole, both cannon and your stories, those two never had any time where they were by themselves. You had a great scean where they were removing the reaver spike from Wash's chair, and thats when it hit me about those two. They are co-workers, both able to put there head down and get their jobs done. Generally if they are alone together its becasue something happend to Mal and he is need of resque, and not a lot of talking would be involved in that. The fact that you took the effort to give them a scean made me smile. SO I thank you once again for the story, hoping that you may one day tell me another one.
| CsRB chapter 6 . 12/1/2012
I hope you don't end this without a looksee at the parents Tam. It feels as if that isn't resolved completely and I'd like to see that. Not a make-up way, mind, because that doesn't sit right, but just...
Secretly, I imagine they go to a core world of sorts to scam someone (just some job) that requires undercover work, and the Tams are there - bam! Confrontation in the middle of fancy schwank where their surrounded by colleagues and people who knew each other since birth and stuff. I dunno. Will you think on that?
| Iseult of the Snows chapter 8 . 11/27/2012
Well, damn. I have to admit I get a little squicked by the idea of River and Jayne being involved romantically. I just don't see it. But I read "Two Gorram Days" before I realized where you were going with all this and I just enjoyed it so much I couldn't stop. I probably would have been happier if this was a friendship fic ("Two Gorram Days" is my favorite part of this whole series), but the fact that I actually read this whole series despite disliking the main pairing just goes to show how awesome it is.
Even though Jayne/River is a little odd to me the way you developed their relationship was really well done. River using Jayne as her focus is a really clever idea. I really love the way Jayne wants River to be independent and accepts her for who she is (that bit during the tea party where Zoe says "There's something powerful in finding someone accepts you just as you are." is perfect, btw). Jayne being all conflicted about having a relationship with River and insisting on waiting until she was saner to have sex made a lot of sense to me. He is a thug, but not totally without morals and you really captured that. Oh, and Jayne being a good big brother was just so fantastic (I cracked up when he braided her hair).
Just one thing: I felt your characterization of Jayne was a little off; you made him a teeny bit too likeable and intelligent, often at the expense of other characters (especially Mal). He really is kind of an asshole to everyone in the show. In the episode "Serenity" when everyone is sitting down for dinner he makes a comment to Kaylee and she looks genuinely hurt and embarrassed. Then in "The Train Job" he makes another comment to her about Simon just before being lowered onto the train and she actually seems a little intimidated. You dismiss these at one point as being no worse than what her brother's would say, but as someone who has 5 brothers (some of whom are rather crass) I think the stuff he says is crossing a line.
Also, while I agree Jayne would notice the inconsistencies with Book and figure out he is more than he seems, I felt it was made pretty clear in the show and the movie that Mal suspected the Preacher was somehow related to the Alliance. Throughout the whole story you have a tendency to bash Mal to make Jayne look better, and the part where Mal is all shocked about Book being Alliance is the worst and most obvious case. Mal is imperfect: he has terrible luck, a temper, is stubborn, too noble for his own good, and terrible with women, but he's not a bad guy and certainly not an idiot. I'm not some mad Mal fangirl or anything (I'm a Wash fangirl, and THANK YOU for keeping him alive) but I just think it was a little skewed.
All in all, a really good story. I noticed that "Prodigal" isn't complete, are you ever gonna finish it? Even if you don't, thank you for not abandoning it at some really crucial point or on a cliff hanger. You are awesome.
