Brilliantly written. You captured Dexter's voice perfectly and played out a scene that could surely work for the show. I thought you also did a fantastic job capturing Deb, but there were times when she was swearing a little too often. Still, wonderful through-line and amazing plot work. Great job, I loved it!

liked ow in the bar they were talking about how young kigs could be.

though i thoguht he doesnt start slicing up his victims until after they are dead. isnt it cleaner that way? also he cuts their cheek after they wake-adding that extra fear into them.

but good ol deb. i really love how you have her played here. how she has him continue for more understanding of everything and just in her shock.

i like how dexter worries about the rip in the plastic (which he later checks) and how it is hard for him to do hs work with deb watching him and how he tries not to get her to watch.

i like how she quickly put together that he is the bay harbor butcher and thusonly kills the bad guys. and then asks about the slide.

... "Still? What, are you asking to get caught?"

... "You don't want me to get caught?" ... "Of course I don't. You're my fucking brother, asshole."

_ super awesome great scene. familiar love.

and then she asked what did the victim do and still asking about everything really wanting the truth. and how harry came into it.

"And Dad was like, sure, okay, but here's a list of the people you're allowed to kill."

heh.

and then how he tells her about his mom being killed and brian and how she does tense there to hear that yes he did already kill a sibling.

and then the swaetshirt and tring to reassure that the sweatshirt is okay.

and how she reacts about her being a symbol.

and i like how he thinks about his whimsical thinking and how it really wouldnt be good to mention.

"—never told us about him," I finish smoothly. "Yeah. Me neither."

Utterly nonplussed, she stares at me. "No," she says slowly, as if I'm a particularly stupid child. "I mean about him teaching you that shit. I can't believe he'd fucking do that."

and i like how deb keeps reacting t all the stuff she is finding about harry.

"That's the only way I'll get you to stop?"

"Or shoot me," I say with a timid smile.

She shakes her head. Smiles back, weakly. "Fucking asshole."

I like this a lot. I've always wondered what would happen if Deb found out (who hasn't?) and this seems to be a very in character portrayal of what might be. Kudos.

I just wanted to say that this, taken with "Rusted Pipe," is my favorite Dexter fanfic out there. It's well written and, as numerous other people have said, you have their characters down perfectly. I could imagine this happening just as you write it. Both Dexter and Deb's reactions to the moment of discovery and its aftermath were absolutely believable. I can't think of any suggestions for improvement. Great job! If you post anything else based on Dexter, I'll definitely be reading it. :-)

I was actually almost done with a "Deb discovers Dexter's secret" story of my own when I found this. This makes mine seem a little superfluous, but I finished it and will be posting it, anyway. I just wanted to mention that since there were a few similarities in the Deb walking-in-on-Dexter scene. I think everything else is pretty different, though, and I didn't want to change the situation in which Deb discovered Dex's secret just to make it different. Having the initial revelation happen over one of Dexter's victims just works too well to pass it up. ;-)

Anyway, again, great job! I hope you'll be posting more Dexter-inspired material in the future.

This is the most wonderfully written, accurate and spot-on in character version of "if Deb found out" scenario I have seen. You kept Dexter in perfect character, as well as Deb - who i have to think would pretty much do what you have her doing, if she ever found Dex doing this 'thing'. Or she'd pass out. Heh.

Great style and flow. Are you going to continue? I really like that you have dex exploring the fact that he is 'feeling' and that maybe he 'feels' something about Deb, and how she feels about the New Brother she has. I loved her being afraid of him, and Dex trying to reassure her.

If this is a stand alone, bravo. If you plan to continue ro do a follow-up, I plan to read it.

Great story! If you want my opininion, i think this sort of scene should happen eventually in the books or series.
