Naruto fought that guy for like 5 min or so. How exactly was he low on chakra? He used very few techniques. I've noticed there is a big discrepancy between his power during training and some fighting. During the chunnin finals he fought his fight then proceeded to help the hokage. it seems you just needed for him to lose this fight but it wasn't believable with the lack of chakra. You could have just had the guy incapacitate him, instead of how it ended. He didn't try the rasengan, he hasn't used hardly any seals or ninjutsu.

What i can never get in these types of stories is that, no matter how smart or observant Naruto is portrayed he is still so naive. Like the fact that his teachersexcept Iruka) and the villagers hate his guts and have sabotaged him to the point that he'd probably die in action. And yet even knowing this he still trusts Mizuki and steals the scroll.
its stupid and pathetic, his age doesn't even work in his favour since normally someone in his place would have had trust issues since he was old enough to read someones body language, maybe even before then.

I'm always looking for a good story with a decent word count, but something tells me this is gonna be one of those 'Narutos'. Obnoxious. Head-in-the-clouds. Begging assholes for their attention. Generally pathetic. Always forgiving even when forgiveness wasn't asked for. I sure hope not. Well let's see...
