Disappointed that this one was never finished, and considering it was last updated 15 years it likely never will be. All the same, I really, really enjoyed this fic. I found the concept striking, and the execution handled well. You made me laugh a lot, especially with Ryuk. I have to say, I love how you write Sachiko. I feel like Light's dynamic with his family is so overlooked and underexplored in fandom. You wrote her differently from how you wrote her in "Alternative" but I love both interpretations a lot. Similarly, I love Light's dynamic with his sister. I find it so interesting that he never considers her important to him, that he only gives L or Ryuk that honor, but he does cherish her and want to protect her in his own way. I think he's so used to discounting his family that he forgets he genuinely cares for Sayu. That's just my interpretation, maybe you intended for it to be just another mask, and it certainly is that, but the sentimental part reads his interactions with her as genuine love and care. He mentions sometimes the way he treats her differently than how he did in his first life and chuckles to himself that he's corrupting her, but she is the only family member he bothers noting how his relationship is different with (at least before Sachiko reveals that she knew the whole time). There was a moment where Light fantasized about having Sayu kill Mello, and the catharsis he'd get in how the person who traumatized his sister could be killed by her, and I think that was a longing on his part to get revenge on what Mello did to her, and a desire for Sayu to get vengeance of her own. I find Light's hatred of Near and Mello (esp Near) hilarious and it's made even funnier when you reveal that L doesn't care about them AT ALL.

Anyway, time for me to go read the side stories now. Wanted to tell you that you are my favorite DN author and it is not even close.

Hello! I read this story for the first time probably around twelve years ago and it's been living in my head rent-free ever since. I just had to track it down and re-read it and luckily DN tumblr helped me find it again. I love the premise and the way you characterise Light the Creepy Adult Baby and the terrible unnerving energy he brings to all his human interactions. I guess that's what dying and spending 18 years in the company of a shinigami does to a motherfucker. Anyway I hope you still get notifications for comments because I want you to know that I plan to save a copy of this fic. I just know I'll spend the rest of my life re-reading it whenever the Death Note Madness takes me again.
