Looks like my previous review didn't get through. I just have to say that the way that Alex got rid of all those old business so quickly was perfect. The ending was perfect too. It didn't have the excitment of the other chapters, and that is what I think makes an ending. My only grip is that you didn't take the story into the far future to see what Ben's and Ren's relationship leads to.
| Terranova210486 chapter 19 . 6/30/2009
Nice chapter as always.
| chaostheory1989 chapter 19 . 6/30/2009
so, it's finally over, Ren can smile, no one was killed in a great war and it picks up at the start of Alien Force.
I'm happy you didn't have it all become a utopia on the correction of the basic programming, showing that there is still evil in the world so true peace is unatainable. I'm dissappointed that it's all over and done with though, I enjoyed this.

excuse me princess HA HA HA loved it
Alex let Ben punch him that was cool kind of like in Watchmen when Ozy let Nite Owl beat him up
HA HA HA! left right left right etc the Konami Code that was so funny
About words like I said how awesome they are in the hands of a "villain" giving his particular speech they only work on those who have a single iota of reason and rational thought and are willing to think and aren't incredibly stupid or too angry to think "those who deny reason can not be defeated by it" I can't remember who said that
I loved Alex's get off your butt and get to work if you don't like status quo to change it of course I mean be like the American Revolution and not the French Revolution no quick fix beating the villain and/or conquering the world is the easy part like I said gain an understanding of politics, economics, technological logistics and how they're all interconnected in the long run
While I'm all for a mate for life thing I believe in monogamy with all my heart and mind I think caring for offspring should take precedence
I like what you said in Earth Style men being providers and women caring but also men should show caring if only by providing and being stern as well disciplinarian for offspring's own good but also make his sons strong through training or sons should learn to be strong from other teachers
I was kind of hoping Alex would make a utopia like either much fewer people for the environment or space colonized and super advanced technology so there would be fewer on planet and not draining resources as well as acting with reason for offspring and community, race, and the universe using actual thought and study and hard work perhaps also improve humanity and other species at genetic level superpowers etc but this is kind of better ending not so boring utopia is boring though I would like it perhaps next time
And it is a point portecting you and your own though a true for the greater good villain would make those sacrifices as would a true hero
I wanted Alex and Gwen to get their happily ever after together
Maybe also Charmcaster and Michael get his looks back and reform no mouths on his palms permanently have super strength, durability, and flight but also have his golden light ray absorbing thing

I'm glad to finally read the conclusion of this tale. You've done very well and pulled it together nicely. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to any new works that you produce in the future.

Really hope Alex and Gwen get their happily ever after together they could go swimming together or go on a picnic, he could give her piggy back ride, carry her bridal style and over his shoulder, they could hold hands, hug, kiss, and cuddle, she could sit in his lap

I recently found out about a series called Domiantion of Drakas and found an essay online ( colon slash slash thescorp dot multics dot org slash 22stirling do l)by Paul Charnock and the last paragraph sums up what I think that has many similarities to what I think of Pharoh's plan being for the greater good especially for the environment
As Nietzsche saw, Man is not the end and pinnacle of evolution, but merely a step along the way. Intelligent life in the true sense has yet to appear on Earth – as is perfectly evident from the sorry saga of history all the way to the headlines in today’s newspapers. Unless we choose to create it ourselves, it probably never will. As long as we remain, as Nietzsche put it, Human, all too Human, we are as a species doomed. A fate Stirling’s Draka, for all their spectacular infringements of "human rights" etc. chose to escape by not remaining human. If we do choose racial self-transcendence, no matter what the cost, no matter what the means, then our descendants, better in every way than us and living in a world they built better in every way than our own, will be able to say proudly with Stirling’s Gwendolyn Ingolfsson: "I’m not human. But my ancestors were, and what they dreamed, we are". It is a dream Friedrich Nietzsche dreamed, long ago. And a dream S.M. Stirling portrays vividly today. It is a dream we must make reality tomorrow. One way or another. If not the way Stirling shows us, then another way at least as effective. Or the future for us all, in the long run, will be a nightmare worse than any dystopian fiction, ending almost inevitably in the extinction of humanity. An extinction, unlike that of any other species, which will not be misadventure but suicide. Suicide through terminal stupidity and cowardice.

I forgot to mention that having Alex's power be the Hannibal Lecture or the reason you suck speech or both is awesome if you don't know what I'm talking about go to the following website though I must warn you it WILL ruin your life you WILL spend countless consecutive hours even days there and not getting any work done tv tropes dot org
To Data Seeker human reason and the rationality of the human mind the ability to think in terms of pragmatic utilitarianism
the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest number of people that is the purpose of government (or lack of government if you're an anarchist) regardless of any belief in some supreme deity
I don't think he's "right" as much as this is the less wrong thing and there is no right or at least he tried to find another better way and could not remember as mortals we are not omnicient we have to do the best we can with the information given (we should also work and study very hard to gain a real world understanding of politics, economics, technological logistics, and how they're all interconnected in the long run) but we can only do the best we can
I do agree that when using the ends justify the means you should use extreme caution but I don't Alex is saying he is not accountable to the crimes he commits he makes it clear he should be it's just hard to imagine a jury of his peers convicting him when he makes his argument

This is a very creative update.
The beginning with Nicole, Dawn and Bobby was creative; full of drama, depth and a touch of humor. It wasn’t my favorite, but only because I don’t relate to your Original Characters; not because you did anything wrong. Blame it on me.
The part with Ben and Gwen was full of suspense and emotion.
The part with Paradox observing the whole plot unfold was short, but dramatic.
The part with Alex confronting his mother (with Spec, Karen and others) was very dramatic, intense, emotional, complexity. The character interaction, reaction flowed brilliantly; full of major impact!
Great cliffhanger too!
This is what I think of the wholesome standards. Some areas are done well; the primary problem is that many things in your story are morally muddled. A while back, you told me that you don’t agree with everything Alex does, but you are portraying him as if he was right in everything; largely because of your atheism.
I sometimes try to understand others by looking at things from their point of view (though it doesn’t always work). I tried to imagine a universe without God, and this is what I see: If there is no God; why should there be a High Moral Law that transcendences human logic, emotion, culture, etc?
I don’t believe ends justify the means (or at least, it’s a dangerous road and you should use extreme caution when using it). But if there is no High Moral Law, then how can you say Alex is wrong; especially with all he has to back up his justifications? I’m confused.
Well I hope this review brightens your day, even though its partially critical.

It has been one month and thirteen days since I downloaded the full Hero High series. One month and thirteen days of reading to make it through the 400 pages of text. Bloody hell... O_O
I've got to say I loved the inside jokes you've thrown in referencing anime, film, and literature (including the Spawn reference with the dead-switch) but at the same time I was feeling sorta like _ when trying to make heads or tails of all the twists and turns. You are truly a prodigious author and I can not wait until chapter 19. Thank you for posting and keep up the good work!

An excellent chapter. I actually forgot about this saga just before you completed the very first one. I'm actually glad that I was able to read it again.
I'm all jittery for the last chapter. Ben hasn't used Alien X yet, and I think you're never going to write him using it, am I right?
| anon chapter 18 . 4/20/2009
Yeah I mean beating thugs, psychos, and whatever nutcase wants to take over the world this week (though I'm all for villains who might be right about their benevolent dictatorship) isn't good enough
They are only ten percent of the problems of the world the other ninety percent come from ignorance people being too stupid and both the right and left caught up in their ideals to know what's best for them and their children's children no real world understanding of the complexities of politics, economics, technological logistics, and how they're all interconected in the long run those who want everything right here right now but don't want to work for it
Heroes don't act they react hereos have morals, villains have work ethic, without villains heroes would stagnate without hereos villains would be running the world
So she's an omnicidal maniac
Love the grey area very Watchmenesque
You are awesome
Really hope to see some Alex and Gwen togetherness action like what I suggested last chapter really hope they get their happily ever after together
Please update soon

If you didn't get the PM, let me say it again. I accidentally wrote over your review when trying to send a message to someone else. If I could, I would erase it. This should be considered the real review.
As usual, this was very intense. It had my breath constricted from the very beginning. I am expecting it all to end next chapter. To think that saving his sister's life was his true goal from the very beginning.
I have to say that that woman is truly insane. To think that she would go that far. I find it hard to believe that two people like Alex and his sister could be born from someone like her. I would say that Alex was being unusually calm, but he has no emotion. Somehow, I didn't see him being a FREAK coming even though I should have. I am looking forward to the finally of my favorite story.
