You brought tears to my eyes. Very sweet, and sad, explanation for silent Dean. Bravo.

Oh poor sweety! I hope John didn't let him blame himself for Mary's death!
He already saved his baby brother! And his mom was dead even before the fire started!
I just want to hold him.
Great story, we really feel like we see the world through the eyes of a four years old. :)

Oh my gosh. Tears are in my eyes. The ending of him thinking it was his fault and leading into him not talking priceless. Very good writing.

;( Oh Dean...
You did an awesome job with a scene that could have happened that night. I felt like I was there watching it. So heartbreaking.

Even that, even then. So eager to take the blame for something that he had nothing to do with! Heartwrenching! No wonder he didn't talk for a while!
Very well done, my dear! Poor little guy!

This was so sad, poor little Dean, it's so difficult for a little guy like him to understand, that mommy is gone forever. You did such a wonderful job here, it's a real tear jerker. Hugs, Vonnie

oh man this was so sad

Very interesting take on it! Had never even thought of the scenario of John distrating himself, changing Sammy's nappy, and Dean slipping back into the house to look for his mum. It would certainly explain how traumatised he was and why he didn't speak for a very long time.
