| sabsfan2 chapter 6 . 7/4/2008
This was a stellar chapter as usual. The medical details were excellent. Maybe a bit too excellent for my tender stomach. I can totally see the Emp withdrawing the use of pain meds to shock Luke out of his malaise. And I can totally see himself giving into a coma to avoid his life. Loved the interaction with Vader and how he actually let his father in when he's been pushing him away for so long. I'm actually looking forward to someone outwitting Palpatine because his chess master routine desperately needs to be trumped. Mara is always awesome. It was funny to see her realize that the doctor might be true in his feelings toward Luke, just as he realized she was feeling something for him as well. I loved her actions at the end. Leia...sigh. She's ignoring that little voice inside of her. And she's going to regret it in the future. I always love Han. Just can't tell him any thing. And he's usually got such great instincts about situations and people. At least he's not swayed like Leia. Great chapter.

Yay! Luke's such a good pilot... even if he does, on occasion, try to kill himself. Or at least, provide no resistance to dying...
And we got to see some of the Alliance people, mostly Han and Leia. This looks like fun!
And confused Mara is really fun to read. Even though I feel kind of bad for her, being stuck with a Sith. Mood-swingy, too. Is that what happened with General Veers, when he exploded like that?
The plot thickens...

Ooh, interesting... he wants to be Emperor?
I kind of laughed when vision-Luke killed Palpatine. I just hate Palpatine that much... hehe.
I like how Luke's starting to plan. Even if there wasn't that much action in this chapter, I didn't care, because there was a lot of exposition and a bit of Luke-Mara interaction...
You always have me so suspensed whenever you upload a new chapter... I'm so glad I never have to wait too long...

Ah, so he was helping the Alliance! Although I guess he won't anymore, now that he's decided to only look after his own skin...
But anyways. The hunt begins! And then I suppose we'll end up getting to that teaser thingy when they thought he was after Mothma but was really looking for Madine... ooh, I wonder what'll happen to Han...
And Leia; can Luke tell if she's his twin yet? Is he strong enough, or is that only a Light side thing? 'Cause I mean...Vader was torturing her up close and personal, and he didn't realize...
And you didn't have to take my comment about your speed so personally... I was waiting what felt like forever for this to come out, but I think forever is only relative, 'cause it only took you a couple days... oh well. It FELT like forever, know what I'm saying? Ah what the heck. I liked it when you updated insanely fast. Waiting the normal amount of time is really killing me...
| MJ Mink chapter 6 . 7/2/2008
Hallin has emerged as an intriguing person. Love the undertones. Now I want to go back and re-read all his sections. Nice that he and Mara have sorted out their places in Luke's life. Hallin needs her as a friend; he seemed so lonely, with an "outside, looking in" life.
Mara's finally faced up to her feelings for Luke. Both Mara and Hallin like the dangerous type, eh? More secrets in this place than they think... : It was revealing that Luke thought of Hallin as "Nathan". After three years, he's connected more with the people nearest him and thus become more vulnerable. In a way, the Darker he becomes, the more Light (or Neutral) grows inside him. Must be a matter of "the Balance".
And, oh great, after the brain trauma, Luke may be MORE unpredictable and violence? I wonder if that's truth or deception in his silent message to Palpatine when he reveals that he wants revenge on his attempted assassins.
It was difficult reading about Luke's injuries, and I imagine it was even harder for you to write – kudos on the great descriptions.
Palpatine just gets creepier. There appears to be infinite depth to his evil. It's interesting that he never identifies himself as "evil", yet he glories in it. Fascinating characterization. I'm awed by the way you can get into every character's head, and your writing of Palpatine is especially amazing since his personality is difficult to grasp.
Love the Vader/Palpatine "It should have been you" scene. You have some fabulous lines: Palpatine's "One may appreciate a work of art even if one cannot own it" – egads, that's wonderfully vicious. And Mara wondering when Palpatine would use Hallin's feelings against Luke...she's not ready to face that Palpatine knows her feelings for Luke, and knew them years before she did...in fact, probably intended those feelings to develop when he assigned her to Luke. Palpatine enjoys being the puppeteer.
Finally Luke reached out to Vader with "Help me". That was beautiful. Now comes the challenges of building a relationship. Interesting what Vader sensed in Luke – neither Dark nor Light. Pure Force perhaps?
Masterful chapters. I'm eager to keep reading. Thank you for writing this!

Sorry for not getting this review to you sooner!
I loved these chapters-although I worry about how this will push Luke even further into depression and darkness. Hopefully his allies (*cough* Mara) will help him regain his mental balance.
Very well done! I was still on the edge of my seat even though I knew you couldn't kill Luke off in this chapter! I loved the tension Mara is facing as she chooses between the Emperor and Luke, and it was nice to see Hallins observations (gotta love the little guy).
I doubt that this little assassination attempt is going to go over well with Daddy dearest (Mon better watch her back) but maybe it will help bring him and Luke closer together...;) Sorry for the less then subtle hint!
Great chapters as always! I can't wait to keep reading!
| Mina1 chapter 6 . 7/1/2008
There's something really powerful about the image of Vader standing behind Luke, cradling Luke's head in his hands, trying to get him to hang on in there. There were many, many wonderful things about this chapter - but that was the best.
| Mina1 chapter 5 . 7/1/2008
OMG... brilliant tension, I've got my heart in my throat.
| Balance in the Dark chapter 6 . 6/30/2008
Nice chapter. I'm not a big fan of Mara's but I like how you have introduced her in this one. Cold and indifferent at first and slowly moving into some thing more. Most go too fast, too far and all you end up with is a lot of mush. -shivers- I hate that. Oh and Luke called her 'Red' agian. Does that mean his mood swings (if he has any) will be back to Skywalker, his usually state or something even darker?...i can't wait to find out.
It seems that the story is almost back up to speed with where it started (Luke knocking out Han), we only have Luke's recover and I'm sure that’s not going to be fun...well maybe for Palpatine, that evil retch! Although, there's nothing better than having villains that you love to hate and you write him so well. Wonderful and dark, keep up the great work.
