Actually, Lily was not suited to anything but being a princess, and was already on her way to dumping Severus for good long before the Bad Word came out-it gave her an excuse to love the bully and his gang, and blame the victim, because, after all, being threatened with a hexing from a rich athlete is far less offensive than one Bad Word after she'd been flirting with his tormentor. This made him easy meat for the DE's, who at least protected him from the Marauders when the administration did not, and easier meat for Dumbledore's little mind games. Ah, how the Headmaster makes his puppets love him even as he betrays them-even Harry Potter saw what was going on, but forgave him anyway. Poor kid.
And his anger is a _good_ sign that he has not yet given up wanting to have a life. His dull resignation in DH pretty much said it all, didn't it?

How awful, and yet there was so much love in such a little time. Despite her sorrows, Erszhebet has been loved more than Snape has. And isn't that sad? He's had all the abuse, but never had anything resembling an angel-only a fiend like Voldemort and a puppetmaster like Dumbledore.
I loved the way you told her story, though. No wonder she keeps ending up with sods like Patrick-she doesn't think she deserves any better.

Well, both of them have the same problem of settling to crumbs from the tables of various people-perhaps they can find a banquet with each other. Nice start!
