Reviews for Cowboys & Indians
Guest chapter 11 . 7/31/2023
That slapped. I love how you didn't just ignore the terrible racial implications of Twilight, but incorporated it into the story as a way for the characters to grow. Leah and Jasper was one heck of an unexpected friendship, but it works really, really well here. Tossing their brothers into the mix made for a delightful combination, and their growth as they go on a road trip, talk philosophy, get into bar fights, and recover little lost bits of themselves were utterly fantastic to read about. Far and away one of the best Twilight fics I've ever read :)
slashrfan chapter 4 . 2/4/2023
this was one of the first twilight fics i read that actually allowed leah to be angry while also addressing the racial implications of why she feels how she does about the cullens. i keep coming back to it every now and then just because it's still one of the only stories that gives me what i need in terms of leah being allowed to feel what she feels without being shamed for it or silenced. she challenges jasper and he's open to learning difficult truths. i absolutely love what you've done here 333
Lady Runespoor chapter 11 . 1/27/2023
This is the missing perspective from the Twilight Saga that was needed.

Over the years, I've had my theories: either Meyer was just ignorant and used a real people with their culture as a set dressing for her story and it's hella offensive - OR - she **wanted** to give this perspective but felt it wasn't her place as a white woman on the outside of the culture. I suppose we'll never know. Either way, THIS STORY is what I wish would have been in the books, because this is what the Native characters of the books deserved.

But, your story exists - and that's a perfect supplement for what I feel are huge holes in the canon.

I also appreciate your historical endnotes; this helps give more shape and detail to Jasper's POV and it's just as good as finally, finally getting a solid Native voice in a story whose core is Native people.

Great work! Thank you!

Even knowing it's coming, the ending is such a punch to the gut. Beautiful story. Don't know if you still get notifications when folks leave comments, but, wishing you peace and happiness across the years.
Fighting fish chapter 1 . 8/7/2022
Hi - I don’t know if you’re still around or if you still read reviews, but your stories have meant so much to me over the years and I’m feeling sentimental and I wanted to thank you for your influence on me even if it’s just a shout into the void. it’s been many many years since I first read your stories. I was a kid hiding out in my shared bedroom in Pakistan then (no library and unable to afford new books, which is why I turned to fanfiction) and I’m a fully fledged adult with my own apartment in the US now. It’s weird how your stories all stayed with me - I don’t know anything about you, but I knew you had to be brown (or at least a little bit like me) and the way you explicitly brought up race in this story was such a revelation to little kid me, and I remember researching the map theory and other philosophies you dropped into stories. The explanation of stories hitting harder than facts because they are emotional was groundbreaking to me. A lot of things that you wrote made a difference in my perception of the world. Anyway, thanks for your writing and keeping it up here for me and other readers to periodically come back to.
Pen Pearls chapter 11 . 1/7/2021
This is one of my favourite fics to date. Not only is it well thought out, but the characters have been fleshed out beautifully too. It's wonderful to see Leah and Jasper's friendship develop and grow, their conversations and ability to reach across racial and historical boundaries is so touching. Something that's still so important in this day and age. Also as a non-American I loved reading their takes on history, and being exposed to the ideas that you have posed. 10/10!
Oakzbane chapter 11 . 5/23/2020
That was truly Amazing. I have never read a story that was chock-full with great information and written so well. I loved how subtle the FamilyFluff was, yet left me feeling high on fluffy familial clouds. I'm so glad I found your story. I enjoyed it immensely.

Bravo!
Toniia chapter 11 . 8/2/2018
I feel like I cant explain the emotions I felt while reading this story. As soon I read the first chapter I knew that there was no way I was going to stop. I hope that you continue to write more about Jasper/Leah.

Beautiful story
mowmers chapter 11 . 9/17/2017
I loved this. This is the few fanfics I have come across in the Twiverse that has directly focused on racial perspectives and tensions in cannon. A few have dealt wirh some themes, but this was just so interesting. The juxtaposition of what and who Jasper represented, his personal journey on recovering his humanity and how that was a journey to connection with others who were different than he was.

A few others have kicked around the ideas of general sexism within the vampires and the fannon ideas of mates. But this was in a league of its own.

I am definitely going to be perusing your other stories.
qhrciskrpc chapter 11 . 4/8/2015
This is well written and deserves more reviews than it has.

But i understand why some would not finish it or review
IrregardlessAEnthusiast chapter 1 . 2/12/2015
The Cowboy and The Indian. The characteristics of the two was distinctively shown (from my knowledge - as I myself am a New Yorker), which I loved. I did notice that the stories in this fandom usually glosses over the fact that yes, she's a member of the Native American society. (Probably resulting from the fact that the writers here make everything westernized, which I suppose can't be helped, since Twilight itself was westernized.) While I came here expecting a JasperxLeah story, I was surprised to find a fine story such as this one.
GeezerWench chapter 11 . 4/20/2014
What a beautiful story. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, despite my lack of formal education.

It was wonderful how you put it together "not in order" and I had no trouble keeping up.

Lovely, lovely story.
thesilentspy chapter 6 . 2/26/2014
Nice chapter again. It was very emotional and the language you used was fantastic. But you're actually not supposed to go under an overpass during a tornado. Going under an overpass can actually make the problem worse, because the structure of the overpass can actually make the winds under it go faster, putting you in more danger. You're recommended to either find a sturdy building to stay in or get out of the car and try to lie flat in a ditch (while protecting your head and neck with your arms). The overpass thing used to be recommended due to a new story (and video) in the '90s where people survived a very weak tornado by going under an overpass, but the theory was disproven later and it now considered more dangerous. Not to say that their decision was a bad one given the limited information they had, but it's generally not what you're supposed to in face of a tornado.

Anyway, good chapter and good luck.
thesilentspy chapter 2 . 2/26/2014
Just one thing, I think you meant "too young" when you had Leah say that she was "too old to be so cynical", children are not exactly known for being cynical. Other than that, good chapter, you gave me some books to check out.
