|Reviews for Memories of Rome|
| Emalin chapter 1 . 11/21/2006
I saw Gladiator for the first time only two days ago...and fell in love with it. This is the first fanfic I've read that truly stands up to the movie. Emotionally charged, brilliantly insightful, and beautifully expressed (with correct spelling and punctuation, no less!).
This has made it onto my favorites list! :)
| ACMD chapter 1 . 12/7/2005
I had to read this after your 'Sun Over the Mountains'. And again, amazing use of language. I do love your portrayal of Lucilla, strong yet wounded, regal and elegance all at once. Brillant interpretation of her reflections, made me think a lot. Great job :)
| Lika2 chapter 1 . 10/30/2003
Sheer brilliance. I can't even begin to tell you how much that fic touched me. The writing, the sadness, the pride, and the decription of seeing a mighty empire fall like that... it was like watching Gladiator the movie and having the same stunned feeling at the end. I always thought the death of Commodus would actually do more harm than good for Lucilla. It's sad how realistic this story would have been, but you caught the voice of Lucilla beautifully. I love how you explained her relationship with the people in her life, and most importantly, what Rome meant to her. This was beautiful. Thank-you so very much for sharing it with us.
| Donna Curtin chapter 1 . 6/27/2003
I'm not sure if you are still taking comments on this story, but I just found it today and had to let you know that it was great. Believe me I am an avid reader and lover of words and also of the movie "Gladiator". Big Thumbs Up! Donna
| A. Murray chapter 1 . 10/9/2002
Beautiful! I absolutely love it! You have a wonderful way of writing and hope that you will continue to provide us with more lovely stories. (Even more Gladiator...) :]
| DNA chapter 1 . 8/5/2002
I simply wanted to tell you that I think your story is beautiful-succinctly stated;) I've been hoping to see more of your stuff in the realm of gladiator-writing, and i still wait with baited breath;) You capture the aftermath of how the story ended with such poigency...so here's to another review from me...and kudos to your avalon site as well;);)
| xxx chapter 1 . 6/2/2002
This is good!
| Shadow Rune chapter 1 . 1/18/2002
Incredibly poignant, incredibly moving and delivered in a calm voice I seemed to hear speaking so clearly in my head. I know this one will stay with me. Terrific stiff Marxbros :)
| Dark Empress V chapter 1 . 1/15/2002
Hi, Marxbros, i really loved this story. I think it's very emotional and touching. I cried while reading it... Lucilla and Lucius' fate was very sad but, realistic, considering the Roman' ways. Please, keep writing more.
| DNA chapter 1 . 1/11/2002
And not just b/c you've reviewed my seldom-read stories in the past;) just wanted to say, as I did once before I enjoyed your writing lots and hope to see more soon as well;) The way you write Lucilla is beautiful, and captures the glory and the tregedy of Rome wonderfully;) Please keep more coming;)
| Marcher chapter 1 . 11/10/2001
Bravo! Such a complete review of a woman trapped by circumstance of birth. Her loves, fears, hopes, desires, regrets and guilt. You've made her passionate and sincere, without her appearing to gush or fawn. Beautifully done.
| DNA chapter 1 . 11/9/2001
Even better than the first time around;) Hope to see more;)
| chloe chapter 1 . 11/8/2001
I love how you finished this. I never saw the ending the way that you see it, but you made it seem possible and believable and utterly tragic. I hope you write more like this.
| Susanne chapter 1 . 11/8/2001
This is one of the best stories I read during the last time - and I read a lot fanfiction stories indeed! It's not only narrative but very reflective and intelligent. Nevertheless it touches the heart - I have to admit that I cried while reading.
| Ilaria chapter 1 . 11/8/2001
WOW! What a terrific story. Truly beautiful and deep and so many faces love has! And how much pain it can cause! I was moved to tears by Lucilla final decision concerning her son, her last act of love.
Well done, you truly captured the spirit of a great woman. Thank you for sharing, I hope to read more from you.
