This was terrific: gripping and believable.

My word. There were times reading this one that I literally stopped and reread passages a couple times over and over and over again because the wording was so perfect and the image was so powerful and it hit so close to home. It was AMAZING. So good. And then of course the story was great with them splitting up and realizing that it was a bad idea but Sam getting taken and breaking away like three different times even when he'd been shot and drugged because he's just epic like that and then Dean showing up at the end because there was no way he was letting anyone get to Sam. Wow. Fantastic. Below are a few of my very favorite passages:
It figured. He tried and tried, and nothing he did was good enough. One slip-up and his family took off like they couldn't get away from him fast enough. One wrong move. - THIS IS MY FAVORITE. MY GOODNESS.
He had kept asking Dean why, expecting him to know and make it better because he could still remember when Dean knew everything. What was he really mad about, that Dean wasn't omniscient? That he'd been worried about Sam and tried every resource he knew to help him?
Maybe Sam was a danger, but that was something Dean had always been very willing to face. And they were stronger together, there was no question of that. So why had he walked out on Dean? On the person whose worst fear was to be left with no one, who'd worried enough to try to find Sam some answers? How could he have done that?
Dean jammed the leather tie deep into his jeans pocket. No way he was losing that. Sam would want it back. / And he wanted Sam back.
Human or not, hunter or not, Carter Simms had just become fair game.
"You come after my brother one more time, and I'm gonna have better aim."
Even now, Sam, the tough guy who'd knocked out his armed captor, gotten out of cuffs, and struggled nearly ten blocks with a bullet in his leg, was wrapped around Dean's hand like he was afraid his brother would vanish while he slept. Stupid kid, Dean shook his head. As if he'd ever done any of the walking out in their family. As if Sam could do anything—or become anything—to make him go.
Just…do me a favor and whisper in a few ears, okay? This was all just a misunderstanding, there's nothing special about Sam." Well, except to his brother. Between himself and the furniture, Dean thought the kid was pretty darn amazing. "But anyone else tries to mess with him again for any reason, they're going to find me in the way."

Gotta love limp!Sam, but I love that you make him strong and self-sufficient even when he's hurt. He's one bamf and people tend to like slotting him as just Dean's little bro and leaving him there. They need each other, sure, but they are both determined and tough dudes.

Thought this story was fantastic and very well done. The only thing I can say I didn't like is that I didn't get multiple chapters to enjoy it more. Thank yo so much for something I truly enjoyed reading. Nicole. :)

I'm sorta late to this story but I'm so glad I found this, hon.
Lovely story - lovely boys - big misunderstandings. Perfect. :)
| Nana56 chapter 1 . 12/16/2009
Okay, this is now one of my favorites. Both brothers strong and capable...Sam knowing to leave the bracelet as a clue even as he was succumbing to the drug; then able to get away on his own. Worried, terrified, PISSED OFF big brother doing what he does best...finding and protecting Sam in hunter-mode. :D
Loved Sam latching onto Dean's jacket in the phone booth and Dean ready to kill anyone who tried to dislodge it. *sighs happily*
Very, very, very satisfying fic. I'm going to sit here and savor for a while. :)

Awe! Another great story! You write the boys perfectly and I love the nail-biting angst (which almost became toe-biting because I ran out of fingernails!)
Thanks for the suggestion to read this one, too!
| Whilom chapter 1 . 9/13/2009
I really liked the little exchange in the beginning about naming things, especially Dean’s “furball” comment. I loved Dean innocuously asking Simms where Sam was shot, then shooting him in the same spot with no warning.
** “Sammy, listen to me, I know what happened and everything’s gonna be fine, okay? I’ll come get you and I’ll fix this, I will.** Gaah, loved this line. And how heart-wrenching was it that Sam’s first words to Dean on the phone were an apology?
** Sam had a bullet wound to the leg, a drug coursing through his veins, and a death grip on his big brother that Dean would have killed anyone trying to dislodge.** This was so sad, that Sam had gotten to this point. He’s like a five year old.
And, as terrible as it sounds, I’m glad the angst and bro!love didn’t end by the time they got to the hospital, because even with Sam clinging to Dean after being found, it didn’t seem enough to account for the damage that had been done in the beginning of the story. Sam spasming in the clinic when Dean angrily tells him to stop apologizing was exactly what I was looking for—Sam finally being completely translucent, not just with his words but with his actions, and Dean finally getting it, that Sam’s litany of “I’m sorry’s” meant “I need you” from the bottom of his heart.
So, obviously, this ranks up there in the top five of my favorites from you. Every time I think you can’t top yourself, I find another one of yours that takes the cake. Great job and thanks.

Awesome! I love Dean, especially the way you capture him in this one-shot.
The flash-backs were a particularily nice addition to this one, and Sam all doped up was heartbreaking. Great job (again).

You know this story has brought up a point that I've often wondered about. Why don't the hunters hunt Missouri? I'm mean she's technically a freak since she has 'powers' so why isn't she on the 'bad' list? Any regardless of my pondering good job with this!
| BlueSea14 chapter 1 . 1/9/2009
This was pretty great. I enjoyed watching 'momma-bear' Dean again, coming after the hunters the way he did in 'Bad Day at Black Rock' (I think that's what that episode was called) for going after Sam. I really enjoyed seeing the brothers work out their issue, too. because that was interesting to read about. :)
| kirallie chapter 1 . 9/16/2008
Good work! Poor Sam! Glad he escaped and that Dean found him in time. Hunters need to learn not to see things so black and white!
| jade02 chapter 1 . 8/31/2008
I've added this one to my list my favorites.
A lot of people write limp Sam stories, but few are able to combine Limp!Sam and kick!ass Sam as perfectly as you do in this story. You do a wonderful job of capturing the brother's relationship - Sam wanting and needing Dean, fearing that Dean was still angry with him but knowing that no matter how angry Dean is, he'll still come. Sam can still rely on him. That's love.
Being a true blue Sam fan, I get tired of the "Sam leaves Dean again" stories - I won't go into my normal tirade here. In this story you find a way to present it such that I want to keep reading. Sam's fear is portrayed realistically. I wish there had more been more emphasis on his need to leave to protect Dean, but it does come out and Dean gets it.
Big brother Dean is my favorite flavor of Dean. You do a wonderful job of depicting Dean first hurt, then angry, then determined - but always caring and loving his little brother.
Pastor Jim is my favorite secondary character. He's the only one who seems to really care about Sam and understand him. The others - Bobby, Ellen, Caleb, etc - all seem more tuned into Dean. But Jim, while caring about both boys, appears to have a soft spot for Sam. I love that about him.
| ROBINV chapter 1 . 8/29/2008
You have never written anything other than a spectacular story, and this follows in the others' footsteps. I loved how "brotherly" this story was, and how it cemented the intense bond between Dean and Sam. Love, Robin
| carocali chapter 1 . 8/21/2008
Oh, this just broke my heart! The story unfolds in the first season as we learn of Sam's 'gifts' and how they scare the crap out of each of the boys. Being who they are though, they won't talk about it, and that ultimately leads to disaster.
Whether it was Joshua or another hunter, the truth was out and Sam became a target (cool premonition on your part). At least Sam had the piece of mind to leave Dean a clue that something was really wrong.
Once Sam was taken, he was not going down easily. Even drugged, his training still kicked in (literally) and he got away. Then Dean comes and finishes up the job.
Another great romp into these boy's lives! Thanks for sharing!
