![]() ![]() ![]() Fudge as a time traveller? I like the premise I don't think I've ever seen that one before shame you didn't expand on it. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Love this! Well done! So rare we get anyone other than the golden trio going back in time, but to have Fudge do it... and be committed to getting it right... Very well done! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh, if only it had been so! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Ooooh, nice twist at the end! It gives the whole story more value twiceover! You can just imagine, a harried but determined politician scrambling to undo the mistakes of his past. Are his motives ultimately selfish - for his own glory - or are they more altruistically inclined - for saving lives lost? Hah, probably more the first, really. But lives will still be saved. He's barely depicted beyond his bumbling, cowardly moments, so it's difficult to say to the depths of his character. But you have to admit, he truly was unfortunate to have taken the seat in the middle of a civil war. He may have been a flawed person, but perhaps in a different time, with different support bases, things could have been different, maybe. Perhaps so. |
![]() ![]() "There really was nothing like a little war, or even the threat of one, to make sweeping changes and stimulate the economy, promote innovation and advance society in general." That's dark, the worst part about it is that is only true under democratic regimens. Dictatorships, in theory, can make sweeping changes constantly and to a greater extent without having to waste resources, time, and potentially lives putting up any kind of pretence so long as what they are doing benefits society. Is too bad that benevolent rulers don't tend to easily be conducive to a long lasting unopposed leaderships. On top of how becoming a competent ruler is so hard and therefore so rare. Even a most competent administration will face opposition even when they often shouldn't. It's the opposition of ideas that's the problem, it leads opposite sides to hardly ever be able to experiment and do something new or somehow uncertain. It might be more beneficial in the long term if bodies of leaders like Congress would 100% give power to only one party at the time, even tho that would on it's own lead to sooner or later one party being held as preferred continuously, it would also mean a unified body that focuses less on dominance and more on what would be most beneficial to do. One of the most important question we need to ask ourselves before we clash heads with others is if our opinion of what we should do as a society most benefit the most people in the long term. If there is any idea that is better in that regard, the mature thing is to accept that is what is better, regardless of whether it is worse for people we care about more, ourselves or everyone in the short term. If we would all held that as a basis for what is right, it would be a lot easier and likely to make positive changes. |
