Reviews for El Hazard Earth |

Sekhmet D chapter 6 . 10/4 A quarter century after you first posted it, this remains one of the finest El-Hazard fanfics to ever grace the Internet, if not THE finest. It's the sort of story that makes other El-Hazard fanfic writers slink back to the drawing board, tails between their legs, with their own efforts after they've read it (I am not ashamed to admit that I am among their number). As someone who has always wanted to explore Ifurita's origins, I was especially mesmerised by her tragic past with Erinyes, and the startling revelations brought to light by her sessions with Dr Fedorov - of Ithilien and Helcore, of Banshees and poor traumatised Yuki. No less mindblowing were how you fleshed out the Phantom Tribe, and your takes on the nature of interdimensional travel, multiverses and metaphysics. Truly exceptional stuff that cannot be praised too highly. I take my hat off to you, Ken. Thank you for a utterly sublime ride. |
donald7777 chapter 6 . 1/2/2013 Whats this an El Hazard story? Can this be? Anyways this was an amazingly well written story. The verse of El Hazard has very few story written about it, which is sad. However your story is exceptional. It was a pleasure to read. You have been favorited. |
staidwaters chapter 6 . 5/30/2011 Wonderful story! It's been ages since I've heard anyone talking about El Hazard, but I consider it one of the best anime ever made. Thank you for writing and sharing. May I suggest writing a summary? I saw this reced a number of places but never bothered to read because I figured that if the author didn't care enough to write a summary, they probably didn't care enough to write a good fic. My mistake! Still, it seems sad that there are probably other people missing out. Perhaps something like "Years after the end of the El Hazard OAVs, Makoto finds a way back to Earth, where Ifurita awaits him." Anyhow, thanks again for the read. |
Barricade chapter 6 . 9/9/2008 Damn... not only did you do justice to Seikai no Senki, but you did justice to El-Hazard. I will freely admit I -far- prefer the original TV series (It did come first) to the OVAs, but wow. This WAS worth it to read through. Your style of writing, as in the Seikai story, is addictive. I buzzed through this in the course of 5 hours of straight reading (my eyes are still hurting slightly). JUst...wow. |
Archaon chapter 1 . 1/21/2005 Just the best El hazard fanfiction on the net. I have recently started writing myself but I can never reach *that* level |
Kishi chapter 6 . 4/10/2003 Well, after about a week or so of reading between homework and navigating the web of deceit, betrayal and madness that is my life (to an extent) I have safely concluded that you have more sheer talent for writing in the upper joint of your left pinky finger than I am likely to have ever, no matter how hard I try. Still, deign to listen to my humble attempt to review. The Good: Characters STAY characters; character destinies are realistic and well dealt with; interplay between Earth and El-Hazard well done; Ifurita actually has some depth. The Bad: To me, it seems that you tried to take on too much at once. There are many things that you touch upon throughout, but it never gets any deeper than that. It sorta detracts from the story, unless you take it upon yourself to write further. The Ugly: Jinnai's fate. All in all, well deserving of the 'Classic' rank that most fans (myself included) consider this story worthy of. Thank you for reading. Kishi |
Stevenav chapter 2 . 2/18/2003 This is the best of fics.. and the worst of fics. The best because it is sublimely wonderful. Written with by a muse inspired hand and with eloquent prose. Saddly, I think it will likely never be equaled in El Hazard Fanfic. The worst because you have given it an end. and the story is told. and you have written no more. *sigh* I say "the worst" only because it's sad to see a story as wonderful as this was end. If it were possible, I'd wish that you would embark on yet another telling of this fable. taking the characters on another quest to see where Makoto's and Ifurita's love for each other take them. I'll do a more in-depth review in e-mail. |
kb9vcn chapter 6 . 12/2/2002 Excellent stories. Wildly imaginative, but written in incredibly realistic and vivid prose. Parts four and five were particularly outstanding. I couldn't help but read straight through them in one sitting. The only nitpick I have is that I'm afraid that part six got a little too harsh, and weird, even for me. (Even Jinnai didn't deserve *that*...) More of a difference of taste than an actual criticism, I guess. Reading these stories as an El-Hazard fan fiction author myself, I feel like a guy with crayons looking at the Mona Lisa. They may have been the first, and they may still be the best. Please write more. |
thefigment chapter 6 . 3/12/2002 well now, That, I would say, is refreshing. Damn good job! I've been hooked recently on the El hazard thing since I just got to see the anime a couple of weeks ago. This is the only time I've been looking for fan fics on anything and I was getting discouraged after alot of crap fics. This was pretty much what I was hoping to find. Damn good job once again! thefigment |
Shadowmaster62 chapter 6 . 1/28/2002 Its a great story, long, but well worth it |
The Woodsman chapter 6 . 1/15/2002 Poor Jinnai. ;_; Anyway, great story. Now If you will excuse me, I must weep for my favorite megalomaniac. |
Chaos Lord chapter 1 . 12/2/2001 This is perhaps the one of the greates works of El Hazard fanfiction ever. If AIC/Pioneer ever decide to make another El Hazard series, it should be based on this. Can't wait to see more from you. |
curbwatcher chapter 6 . 11/17/2001 Whoa... One of the absolute best stories I have read, and bar none the best El-Hazard fic/novel/anything-besides-the-show-and-that-is-even-close I have ever known. All I can say is that it is a story which is true to the characters, true to the original story and gives a sense of grandness that comes only from an undying epic. Well done. Very well done. |
Kyriel chapter 1 . 11/11/2001 This is an amazing story, fun to read and true to the series it's based on. I have to admit though, my favorite part was the last chapter; it reminded me a great deal of the end of the fourth season of Babylon Five, where a human historian (presumably) looks back over a thousand years of human evolution influenced by the events of B5. There's just something awe-inspiring about the end that even the last punchline couldn't dispel; it's taken me a couple days to shake of the feeling of.. I don't know, wonder/sorrow/curiosity that it inspired. While I'm not sure, I think it has to do with my hope (and doubt) that the human race will some day achieve a civilization we can be proud of in entirety. A great read, and it's got me thinking a bit. Thank you, Ken. |
Jose chapter 6 . 10/10/2001 I enjoyed the story. The love story between Makoto and Ifurita was one of the more moving elements in El-Hazard. Showing Ifurota's growth was masterful. I hope to see more of your writing. |
