Reviews for Ballykissangel Virtual Series 5
Patti chapter 1 . 6/2/2009
Hi:

It's nice to see the characters continuing in their stress but at least alive. Thank you. Priests, however, do not give up the priesthood or renounce their vows when they want to get married. Once ordained, they remain priests, even if they want to get married. Surprising huh? There are lots of married (Catholic) priests all over the world. They are allowed to say mass privately only and they do not minister to congregations. In essence, we don't see them as priests anymore but they are still priests (with wives and families.) Too bad the series couldn't have continued with Peter and Asumpta, hum? I liked the idea of him behind the bar, tending a baby in the back room- he could have done it all. And wouldn't a priest make a great publican, listening and giving out wisdom, with clean humor and a moral compass- just loved that character!

Ah...the perfect ending to a perfect story! I especially love the playful way all Peter's friends attempted to school him. But the masterful touch was having Leo school him - his anger and revulsion at having to do it toned down by his love for Assumpta and the alcohol - and him doing it in beautiful, lyrical prose.

Brava.

Oh, my sainted aunt! You should be writing for the BBC! This is wonderful, delightful prose with pared-down, true-to-life dialogue interspersed with understated but completely hilarious Irish humor. Here are just a few things I love about this chapter:

1. Assumpta: I wish I had your faith

Niamh: Well, I wish I had your hair...He's not leaving.

Assumpta: Damn. I owe Brendan a fiver.

2. Siobhan shoving Aisling at Assumpta to get a shower and use the bathroom.

3. Peter and Assumpta in bed with Peter trying to draw her out and Assumpta always resisting.

4. Niamh suggesting Ambrose talk to Peter about sex.

5. Peter admitting to Leo he doesn't know if he makes Assumpta happy,Leo agreeing he had that problem as well, Peter allowing Assumpta to comfort Leo upstairs in private.

I think reading your work makes me a better writer. Your work is enjoyable, well-crafted, and accessible, but your prose and its mechanics are also impeccable. Thanks.

Sigh,sigh, total sigh!

I love Peter's cookies! I love the way Assumpta and Niamh describe them.

I love the way they look at each other's mouths!

I'm so glad she finally said it!

I love the way you handled Kevin and his girlfriend with Peter and how he took Kevin's challenges to heart.

And you must write more stories. Must. Not maybe.

coffeeiv chapter 2 . 11/2/2008
Oh, my; I'm just sitting here sighing.

It was delicious. You've handled it all well - Siobhan's and Brendan's daughter's christening - or not, Kevin's tending bar, Niamh's pregnancy -although Kieran doesn't show up as much as babies generally do in real life with their mummies, and especially Assumpta's recalcitrance about marriage and families. I do wish, however, that there had been more about their first night together, but I suppose the quickie was more realistic. POV disappointed me on that as well, but again, it was appropriate to hear it after the fact as a matter of course between the two friends.

Now I won't have to eat chocolate tonight. I am satisfied. I'm ready for more as soon as you can dish it out.

It amazes me how you are able to ride the peaks and valleys of tension over and over and I never tire of them! Normally, by this time,I would have gotten tired of the stalling. Get them together and have done with it, I would have said. but I'm enjoying the tension. i wonder how much longer you can keep thinking up novel ways of stretching out the string of gum again and putting it back in your mouth?

I am SO looking forward to your next chapter. By the way, have you ever written any original fiction? This month is National Novel Writing Month. You can join thousands of others around the globe writing 50,0 words in 30 days. I've done it for three years, and loved it. Can't this year due to work, but go to and check it out.

Sorry this took so long - busy with work, house, teenagers.
