That was fabulous - a glimpse into not only Sam's life in the four months without Dean but also his whole life before that. I liked how Sam continued praying even though he wasn't sure anyone was listening. And I was always partial to the idea that it was Sam's prayers that saved his brother. I like hoe you wrote Ruby too - halfway between Katie and Genevieve. Great stuff!

I'm going to fav. this, so please, please don't delete it this time, mk?
| IMTheresa chapter 1 . 11/5/2008
Poor Sam. He's always tried so hard to do the right thing and now he doesn't even know what the right thing is. Kinda sucks that there may not be a right thing.
I can only imagine his devestation after Dean died; it had to have been that for him to take up with Ruby.
Thanks for this; it was a wonderful look into Sam's heart. See ya in Chicago ;-)

Okay that triple dean still kills me and makes my heart get all clenchy. Poor Sammy, and God heard him and sent the wonderful Cas! Now, to think if Dean hadn't died we wouldnt have that to stare at...all I'm saying! lol

Ohh! Sam's growth, and the progression of his prayers-so interesting! (Wouldn't have expected anything other than interesting and well-written, from you, and am so glad you're still posting here.) So sad. Loved the constant of his brother in his prayers, too. Am curious about what/who you see directing Ruby, and the ending was quite unexpected and perfect! Thanks for sharing!

Your story brought tears to my eyes. Perhaps it is in those times of silence that God hears our deepest thoughts more clearly.

Wow. This is really good. The repition of Dean in the prayer is perfect and I'm grateful Sam just keeps trying. Thank you for making Ruby sound like intelligent-last-season-Ruby and not the space case we have now. And the angel-man at the end :) I like him :) Favorite bits:
There are only so many explanations for always being on the floor by the bed, and he doesn't own enough socks or shoes to keep losing them under there.
Not this transient existence, always hungry for something not on his plate. (this is a gorgeous line)
If he goes, let me go, too. (I honestly never considered Sam thinking about Dean going away. Wow.)

Break my heart why don't you. Poor Sam, he had to be so devastated after Deans death to start training with Ruby. I love this piece and no need to apologize about it being about Sam! Sam's a Winchester too, lol. Can't have one without the other. :) Wonderful job on this!
| Ster1 chapter 1 . 11/4/2008
Aw, man. Sam's grief at the end was so devastating. And repeating prayers of "save Dean"-GUH! Break my heart, why dontcha ya? *g*
Lovely piece and the ending was so hopeful. Sometimes we get what we pray for, just not in the way we expect and then it's easy (and human) to lost faith. I'm looking forward to seeing how canon -and fic- look at the resolution to this issue for Sam.
Thanks for posting this!

What an awesome progression in Sam's thoughts. I understood the whole thing completely. Poor Sam. The prayers about not wanting to get back into hunting, but wanting the strength to do that one weekend to try and mend some things with his brother really got me.
Very nicely done.
You have others that need to be finished? Woohoo!

"God hears silence... a prayer misdireected". This gave me chills.
There is a lyrical quality to your writing.
You are such a brilliant writer.
I have searched in vain to find the old story you wrote where Dean had cancer. I don't remember the name but the phrase "there be dragons" was in that story right? And Dean recited part of a Robert Frost poem. I checked your homepage and couldn't find them their either. Is there nay hope of ever seeing this again? It's like losing a favorite book. Thanks for sharing your talent.

LOL! You shouldn't say 'sorry' for this being all about Sam. I'm personally very happy to read something that's all about Sam. :-)
I absolutely love this fic. Practically every line broke my heart that little bit more. My poor boy is so broken. *Cries*
