I read this story ages ago but lost the link. Now I have an account and re-discovered this fanfiction by sheer coincidence... and I still love it. Thank you so much for writing it!

Amazing. Nothing else to say, really. Had me smiling like a goofball the entire time - except when I was straight up laughing. Really enjoyed this one.

Honestly after the events of that day, Vader should just own up to it. No-one can make fun of him if he's not on the defensive... His big life decisions revolve around his family, it wouldn't be strange for his family only to receive special treatment.

(Considering his very serious "work" and his subordinates' requests though... yeah well that's a different problem.)

The backstory for this fic is pretty cool though, his unexpected return 25 years later could go so many ways... even tragic ways... ha, good thing this is only funny. :D (Damn but the same people... for 25 years... even if there are thousands of people, they probably became a pretty tight-knit group to survive being all by themselves.)

This is very funny, and ridiculously sweet. I know there's a series of AU picture-books in which Darth Vader somehow wound up with custody of Luke and Leia when they were children, and I don't want to go there, but the idea of an older, much-mellowed Darth Vader reluctantly agreeing to babysit his grandson is appealing. It reminds me of the way that Death in the Discworld books (who admittedly isn't a villain, but would normally be an intimidating figure) interacts with the children he meets while standing in for the Hogfather, or with the little girl whose life he saves in Reaper Man - not to mention the implied friendship between Death and Susan when she was very young, before her parents decided that having a grandfather who was a talking skeleton wasn't good for her.

I don't know whether you've read any of the Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold, another science fiction series which I personally prefer to Star Wars (if you haven't read them, I definitely recommend them - the series starts with Shards of Honor). In the course of these books, two characters who have even more of Jerkass Woobie background than Darth Vader have a similarly redemptive, Heel-Face Turn redemption in which their villainous master orders them to harm to protagonist, and they kill the villain instead. I feel sad that one of these characters, although in a loving relationship with his long-term partner, avoids having children because, after his own abused childhood, he doesn't feel competent to be a parent, while the other (who had accidentally become a father as a result of raping a prisoner) takes responsibility for his daughter but is shy of actually having much day-to-day involvement in her upbringing - and is dead long before he has a chance to see his grandchildren. I want to see more of reformed villains trying to cope with looking after small children, so this story works for me.

Loved the first chapter melting from all the sweetness.
