|Reviews for Paved With Good Intentions|
| alisa231 chapter 9 . 2/26/2009
Wow. You covered a lot ground in this chapter but none of the events seemed rushed.
I enjoyed the first part of the chapter very much. The interaction between Bella and Edward is written with subtlety and balance. You could have done an overload of fluff here or made them declare their "I love you's" but I like that you're taking your time developing their relationship. It's nice to see them bond over common interests and build a solid foundation of friendship to their relationship.
I liked that Bella offered to cook Edward dinner. She has strong protective instincts toward the human version of him. The entire scene from them arguing over who would cook and clean to eating together to reading together to the hug at the end was beautifully written. Above all, Edward and Bella are kindred souls and you really captured that essence of their relationship in these small moments.
In certain ways, Bella's decision in this story was similar to Edward's in NM. It was made without the other's consent and in the end, it created more problems than it solved but above all, both Bella and Edward intended for their sacrifices to benefit the other. Regardless of the consequences of their respective decisions, their decisions were made solely out of love and selflessness.
I appreciate the insight into Edward's character and it's admirable how he's grown from the suffering he's endured rather than letting it make him bitter and resentful. He's a lot more optimistic than vampire Edward. But, at the same time, vampire Edward's reasons for thinking he was damned was because he'd murdered etc. whereas human Edward does not live with the same guilt.
I'm excited to see the how this story progresses. You're doing a great job balancing the characterization with the plot in your story. )

I absolutely loved this chapter. I loved getting this insite into "human" Edward. I can't wait to see this Edward fall in love with Bella, if he hasn't already.

I'm so glad Liz is his sister! You really had me going there.
It's nice to see that Edward's still overprotective. If Bella keeps making slips like she did this time, he's going to know something's up. I wonder if he's going to look inside her little velvet bag, or something? I also like the idea that Edward has retained some of his ability to know people's thoughts; it makes perfect sense, I just wasn't expecting it. I'm terrible at making those kind of predictions :)
Continue with the good work!

I loved this chapter. Thank God she was his sister. Can't wait to see how much vampire Edward and Human Edward have in common.

Yay! Thanks for the quick resolution of *that* particular plot point. And Bella's "Adjust" was terrific.

wooho...i am so glad that you aren't going to be breaking all of our hearts by making him engaged tp another woman as soon as BELLA finds him again!
how wierd is it for Bella to be back to square one with Edward?
what would be even more wierd is if she goes through all of this "fresh start" with human Edward and right before they are to "do the deed" she wakes up from a dream and Edward is still a vampire and they are still getting set to get married on Aug 13

I loved this chapter!
Rationally, I knew that the woman with Edward was not his fiancee as I mentioned in my last review but at the same time, many authors would use this part as an opportunity for an unnecessary love triangle. I'm glad you refrained from using a cliche plot line.
Elizabeth is really quite charming. Her friendly, bubbly demeanor is almost reminiscent of Alice.
You've outdone yourself with your portrayal of human Edward. His chivalry, intelligence, and independence are all kept in tact. I appreciate the details too, like when Bella notices Edward's ability to read people. You really maintained the dignity of his character. At the same time, there are subtle changes in him that make him human. As Bella mentioned, it's like looking at a picture from a different angle, human Edward's modesty is endearing. I aww'd at the part when he lets out a huge breath after Bella agrees to dinner. That was so sweet.
You have me intrigued with Edward's parents. There's definitely some sort of history there.
Bella's struggle with her instant connection with human Edward felt very real. I can easily sympathize with her, which shows your feat as a writer.
Bella and Edward's first interaction was perfect. It was balanced in humor, drama and angst. I like that Edward felt the instant connection despite his memory loss.
Great chapter. Thank you for the frequent updates as well. Always a pleasure to read your story.

I think your story has a good premise. I'm looking forward to how things will pan out.
I appreciate you staying true to the characters. I especially appreciated their conversation in the first chapter. It felt like reading canon. And, Edward being jealous of Eddie is adorable.
I like what you've done with Bella's character. She seems more independent, which is a quality I admire. I also find it easier to sympathize with her because for once, we see her acting selflessly.
I've always wondered how Bella and Edward's first meeting would be if he had not been a vampire so I'm intrigued for the next chapter. I'm really truly hoping that the woman he was with is not his fiancee. At the most, he must be 18 or 19 right now. He wouldn't be getting married right...? I don't know if it's just me but Edward always struck me as a very reserved person who did not relate well to other people apart from his family until Bella came along. I find it difficult to believe he would be close enough to another woman to propose to her. Especially, seeing how much he values the institution of marriage. Anyway, I realize I went off on a tangent, my apologies. I trust you're going somewhere good with this.
I'm enjoying the story so far. Thank you.

I feel so awful for Bella! Her world was on its way to being rebuilt, and then it just crashed in seconds! I feel so terrible for both Bella and Edward, actually. And I can't wait to find out who the woman is! It's funny to think that in this alternate life he has an important relationship with someone, when Bella would feel as though he has only been gone a few months. Again, fabulous writing!

Wonderful ... and also evil, for the cliffhanger ending. Thanks so much for writing this. I'm really enjoying the twists and turns.

Wow, another amazing chapter! Glad to see you've gotten some more reviews. You really deserve them.
So, where is Edward? If the rest of his family died back in 1918, who would he be living with? I'm sorry, it's a habit of mine to ask questions that I know the author can't answer without giving away the story, but I want to know!
I love how Bella writes that note to herself, although I don't think she'd ever be able to forget that she was supposed to be married, paper or no paper. I hope something good happens for her soon.
