| Alexis chapter 5 . 4/24/2009
I love how you call this a short chapter - you're crazy girl!
First of all that nightmare - HOLY COW! You scared me half to death! I'm still nervous becasue there have been hints that somethign's going to happen to Bruce and Tim and who knows who else... Please, be gentle!
It was nice to see things quiet down a bit but I know you won't let it stay that way for long. I think my favorite POV's were Cass and Bruce - Cass for the unexpected fight with Tim and then of course Bruce as he watched his little kitten get all dressed up for the big dance! I still can't believe she's the same little baby that he walked the halls of Wayne Manor with way back in Time Will Tell.
And OMG the trombonist killing - hilarious and 100% Joker! I can't wait to see what his plan is!
Just because I can't say it enough, I LOVE this series and update son!
| Jen.Lawrence.23 chapter 4 . 4/13/2009
great work as always. I wonder what would happen if father and daughter managed to meet up in the streets. I hope they catch th joker soon though I guess not because it's approximately 20 chapters in each story of the series so I guess there's a long way to go. Nice that Alfred made an appearance and the bonding between families.
| TorontoBatFan chapter 4 . 4/10/2009
Alright! Chapter 4! It's as good as...Chuck Norris finally getting the Emmy he deserved for "Walker, Texas Ranger". :-D
I hear Chuck Norris is so tough, he's got another fist under his beard. :-D
I was wondering when Mattie would discern that she doesn't have a specific reason to begin fighting crime outside of a desire, as that was the case with both Barbara and Tim. Severe understatement that there's a conflict in the desires between her and Bruce. LOL
Interesting the clues the Joker is leaving. My guess is the key is the "old" part. It's a shoutout to the "old" Batman who he wants to tangle with.
Wow, Mattie really is preparing well. She's even training herself for irregular sleep habits. Nice to see that she's still taking care of the meals. They would either starve or become dependent on takeout if Bruce or Selina had to do all the cooking. LOL
Oh. Mattie and Terry are off to the spring fling. Well, it'll be a pleasant change if Bruce is cracking up over that, rather than the Joker. LOL Oh, and I loved the bit about Bruce's inability to work kitchen appliances.
Cool. We get to see a bit of Alfred again. What would Alfred be reading at night? P.G. Wodehouse's "Jeeves" novels? Ian Fleming? "Twilight"? LOL OMG, that is so correct. If Bruce learned what Mattie is doing, she'd be packed off to a girls', Catholic, boarding school...preferably somewhere as far from Gotham as possible. And, Selina would indeed be killing him while he did it. Imagine what will happen if Bruce learned about the spring dance? Actually, his reaction would be about the same. LOL
Oh my, is that foreshadowing? Selina's dream on top of Mattie's dream about Bruce being in peril from the Joker. I hope you're not planning some dire fate for Bruce, leaving Mattie to take up the family calling.
I loved the Dick and Tim scenes. It's good that Tim has realized how he was acting. And I was howling with laughter at the Chuck Norris jokes. Chuck Norris is so tough...The opening scene from "Saving Private Ryan", was Chuck Norris having a dodgeball game. LOL
Heh-heh. Selina has a point. Bruce IS finding a lot of these leads at strip clubs. Coincidence? LOL And I loved the bit where she finds Mattie with the sketchbook. OMG, if Bruce knew she was doing that, he'd flip that his earlier fear/prediction (her doodling costume designs in the margins of her schoolbook) was coming to pass.
Tim's POV was very good as well. So, that's what is behind the Joker cards being passed out: a low-level drug dealer using the Joker's escape as a marketing plot. Dick is SO right that the dealer is lucky they found him before the Joker did. Tim and Cass at a couples cooking class? LOL That's hard to imagine. Is their instructor a Gordon Ramsey type? LOL
Nice that Tim and Jack were able to catch up a bit. It's a shame Tim didn't tell him the proposal to Cass. BTW, I loved the bit about Cass being able to take on the League of Assassins and an IHOP breakfast special with equal efficiency. :-D
And now...on the Mistuh J. :-D I'm quite surprised Harley is still alive after interrupting the Joker's counting like that. Non-insane people might have tried to do away with her for that. LOL That was quite a haul though, if they could make off with over six-hundred thousand dollars like that. Of course, the Joker never cares about money as much as he does about the confrontation with Batman.
Oh. The sharpened vegetable peeler in his coat pocket? That's a little homage to the Heath Ledger version of the Joker, isn't it? Nice job in putting that in. :-D
LOL. I love the little bit with the Huntress being represted by a stick figure that's two cup sizes larger than Batgirl. LOL And poor Nightwing, he'll never live down having a mullet. LOL
Heh-heh. It's so true about Tim. He beat the Joker when he was practically still breaking his costume in...and he did it all by himself. I think that's what instantly set him apart, both in the eyes of Bruce AND the Joker, from the other Robins.
I love how the Joker is so unimpressed with the activities of his former colleagues in the Gotham Underworld. He's quite correct in that they hadn't really done much in terms of causing trouble. Perhaps he -the Joker- acted as a catalyst for the rest of them, and spurned them on to greater activity. Oh. Maybe his escape and return will spur the rest of them on a bit. BTW, you forgot to mention Deadshot's brief return and subsequent wounding of Nightwing. That alone might get him honourable mention in the Joker's esteem. So, let me get this striaght. He's going to use Harley and Bo Bo to try and draw out someone from the Bat-Family, specifically Batgirl or the Huntress. If it's Cass that shows up, I think that Bo Bo will be in trouble. Two punches are all she needs to lay him out cold. But, I must say, that's a very cruel type of cliffhanger to leave off of. LOL. (It's almost as fiendish a cliffhanger as the season finale of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" tonight. LOL) I sure hope you'll have Chapter 5 up soon, so the wau won't be too agonizing. LOL. Seriously, you're doing an awesome job and I can't wait for the next chapter. :-)
| OptPrim-o chapter 4 . 4/10/2009
I was dying of laughter when Tim and Dick were dropping the Chuck Norris jokes. Good to see no matter how tough things are they are both still very much Robins at heart.
| a2zmom chapter 4 . 4/10/2009
Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.
Chuck Norris does not own a house. He walks into random houses and people move.
Q: How many Chuck Norris' does it take to change a light bulb? A: None, Chuck Norris prefers to kill in the dark.
Google won't search for Chuck Norris because it knows you don't find Chuck Norris, he finds you.
Chuck Norris doesn't bowl strikes, he just knocks down one pin and the other nine faint.
According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday.
I know teenagers think they're invincible, but with the joker running around, you'd think Mattie would be a bit more cautious.
Loved Bruce getting Dick in trouble. Hee. And I also liked Tim bonding with his dad.
| Vanafindiel chapter 4 . 4/10/2009
Loved the Chuck Norris jokes. Bruce getting Dick in trouble. That was great, had me really laughing.
I have a horrible feeling that Mattie is going to be stuck in the middle of all of this. If the Joker manages to capture Mattie we all know Bruce will stop at nothing before she's safe and at home. I really hope this has a happy ending for the Family.
| Harls chapter 4 . 4/10/2009
I really like this take on the Joker and I love how everyone is starting to freak out a bit, I can't wait to see what his plan is. It was great to see Alfred's POV - he always brings a little something special to a chapter and I have missed it. I absolutely loved the scene with Tim and his dad, we never get to hear much from Jack and it's always done perfectly when you bring him in. And I was a bit frightened by all the foreshadowing, I do hope your ill intentions aren't too ill for Bruce...
And Mattie has to join the family - she's right all she needs is a costume and a name!
I'll be waiting somewhat patiently for the next chapter, hopefully it won't be too far away!
| Vanafindiel chapter 3 . 4/8/2009
I was so looking forward to the fourth chapter, but I was disappointed that it wasn't there. So I guess that means I'll be waiting.
| TorontoBatFan chapter 3 . 4/6/2009
And I'm now caught up with this review. :-D
Ah, they've found the first new Joker victim. Nice touch that Tim was expecting the usual rictus grin, not the death-by-hairdye death that was the actual case. Eleven people shoplifted around a dead body? That store must not be in a good part of town. LOL
Oh. I love Will's little statement that he's not an idiot. I think he's figured it all out -or at least has a good suspicion. Hope we'll see more on that. :-D
Heh-heh. Love the line about Bruce's tolerance for unskilled drivers. I feel the exact, same way.
Loved the scene where Cass and Mattie are training together. Cass seems to think that Mattie is really ready to go. She even says that Mattie could be her clone. Whoa. And Cass stands up to Bruce about hsi thinking Mattie isn't ready, too. Cool.
LOL. Loved Bruce's thinking that Selina would drop a toaster into his bath if he missed dinner. He knows her so well. :-D
I cannot wait for Chapter 4. :-D
| TorontoBatFan chapter 2 . 4/6/2009
And now for Chapter 2.
BTW, for some reason my review of Chapter 1 was posted as an anonymous one. Sorry about that.
Heh-heh. Duty. :-D
Loved the interrogation of The Mad Hatter. It makes me think of line from TDK about never starting on the head...It makes the answers all fuzzy. LOL
Bruce's birthday is coming up? I still loved the events of his 45th birthday. :-D LMAO. I love the three things that truly terrify him. I can so see that.
Oh. Tim is definitely going the Bruce route in his approach to work. Is this Eric Donavan going to factor in later on, or is he more of a red herring?
Let's see...Mattie is wondering what Bruce will react more strongly to: her dating or becoming a crimefighter. That is really a tough choice. I think he'll freak out over either. However, since they such polar opposite things, they might cancel each other out in terms of Bruce stroking out. LOL
And the Joker's POV. OMG, that was fantastic. You capture him perfectly. By that, I mean you capture the BEST Joker characterization perfectly -i.e. the Mark Hamill interpretation of the role. He is -in my mind- the one, true Joker. I can hear Mark Hamill's voice saying those lines, especially in his interaction with Harley. Loved his reaction to hearing about Gordon, as well as the fact that most of the Rogues seem to have pretty much thrown in the towel. I wonder if his return might act as a catalyst for the others.
And what a great final line: he dyed. LOL
| Guest chapter 1 . 4/6/2009
Sorry I've been delayed in reviewing.
I'm so glad you're on to the next story of the series!
I love how Dick is going crazy with his determination to let Ethan have chocolate. I suspect that he's more excited about chocolate, than Ethan having some. LOL
Giggling when someone says "duty"? Hm...Wait a second! I just got that. That's hilarious! LMAO.
Loved the dynamic with both Tim and Bruce. Tim is becoming like Bruce in stereo. LOL And speaking of Bruce, he seems to be taking a more active part in the Joker hunt. Wonder how that's all going to turn out.
As always, I loved Mattie's POV. She seems to be really running the Manor while Alfred is in Africa. Of course, I doubt he would trust his kitchen to anyone else. Mattie muses she's never seen him as Batman? Is that foreshadowing? Oh well, it looks like Mattie has truly caught the bug to join the family business. I suspect Bruce will get more grey hairs once that becomes completely clear to him. And, her astonishment at Bruce forgetting Valentine's Day...perfect. :-D
And, what is there to say about Cass' POV other than it's perfect? I love how you write Tim/Cass in this fic. They're one of my favourite couples in the DCU and you do them perfectly. As for their wedding ideas...my vote would be them getting married on the Jaws Ride at Universal Studios in Orlando. :-D
Loved Tim's POV with Bryce as well. The man is trying hard, but I agree with Tim that he really doesn't understand the Joker just yet. Nice touch that Tim brings doggie treats to get past the guard dog. Heh-heh. Nice joke about Bruce looking like a bearded Val Kilmer. (To be fair, between Kilmer, Keaton and Clooney; I always thought Kilmer was the best. He was definitely the most physically credible Batman of the group.)
Mattie's staying up all night? Wonder why? ;-) And she likes lattes? LOL She's definitely a teen. Nice that Bruce took a day to spend with Nathan. I wonder if Dick ever gets jealous that he and Bruce never did stuff like this. LOL
Can't wait for ensuing chapters.
| Sailor Sol chapter 2 . 3/17/2009
I don't normally leave reviews, but I just had to peek my head out for this one. I started reading your series a while ago and then I had to wipe my hard drive and I lost track of it, and just recently found it again, so I'm having a good time catching up.
But I was highly amused by the fact that Bruce Wayne always stays in the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell. You don't get much more central than that, though truth be told, it's not that ritzy of a hotel. I lived in Cromwell for 15 years, and now every time I go back there and drive past that hotel, I'm totally going to have to stop and wonder if Bruce Wayne is currently in residence :-D.
| Jen.Lawrence.23 chapter 3 . 3/12/2009
Sorry for the late update. Excellent work as usual. It's official. Mattie's been permanently embedded in my mind as a REAL Family member
| SingingBetty chapter 3 . 3/3/2009
I've just spent the last few days reading your stories and it's been a very enjoyable roller coater ride! Please continue writing!
| a2zmom chapter 3 . 3/1/2009
I disagree with Tim about calling Bruce on his brief getaway. I'm not sure they're going to figure anything out any quicker. Although I do understand his motivation.
A bit hypocritical of Bruce regarding his qualms about Mattie considering he didn't have any when it was a nine year old Dick.
I was amused by Bruce falling asleep with regards to Selina. Age catches up to all of us.
