I have to disagree with your interpretation of the Jefferson quote. Jefferson very much believed in inequality, inasmuchas some people were qualified to lead and others were not. People who led did indeed 'matter' more than people who did not, because their actions had much broader implications than those of their followers. The equality to which Jefferson referred was equality before the law; that all men would be subject to the same laws equally regardless of their social status. Though taken out of context, Jefferson could be used to support Gattaca's premise as well as any number of wrongheaded philosophies, it's a far more limited and practical view of equality as it relates to the state.

You say this was written as an essay for school? Well, I hope your teacher gave you an outstanding grade for this, because this was excellent. My favorite part is the entire first paragraph. Very well phrased.
